halloween 2011

I will be passing out Gospel tracts and candy to trick-or-treaters on halloween night. I don't celebrate halloween and I haven't since the first year that I became a Christian. I personally believe that it's too pagan in origin and I felt that the Holy Spirit impressed upon me to not celebrate it when I first got saved. I didn't feel right about it even though it used to be my favorite day of the year before I got saved. But, I decided that I could take advantage of the fact that trick-or-treaters come to my house door-knocking every year and that only occurs one day a year, and I can give them Gospel tracts. There are different websites on the Internet where you can buy halloween-themed Gospel tracts for kids and teenagers. These tracts do not necessarily promote halloween, but use halloween as a theme for trick-or-treaters to present the Gospel to them. Also, giving them a candy to me makes it all the more worthwhile of a visit for them. That way, if they don't really like the Gospel tract (although the Gospel tract is really cool) they can feel that they at least got something they liked out of coming to my house and maybe they will appreciate it more and want to come back again next year if they are still celebrating halloween (although I would rather they not celebrate it). I will report back here and give the information about my experience of halloween 2011. Please pray. Thank you and God bless.

A Love Language Minute: Getting Rid of Bitterness

via email newsletter, by Dr. Gary Chapman

Getting Rid of Bitterness
Have you ever heard the expression don't get angry get even? Well, there may be a better way to deal with that unexpressed anger than vengeance. Let's look at two negative ways and one positive way of responding to anger and bitterness.

First, there is unexpressed anger; holding it inside and letting it smolder. When we do this, the bitterness becomes like a malignant cancer slowly destroying the fiber of life. Then, there is uncontrolled expression of anger. Like an explosion it destroys everything in its range. Such an outburst is like an emotional heart attack and may produce permanent damage.

There is a better way. It begins by saying to yourself, "I'm extremely angry and bitter about what my spouse has done. But I will not allow their wrong to destroy me and I will not attempt to destroy them. I will turn my spouse over to God who is just, and I will release my anger and bitterness to God." The Biblical challenge is "get rid of anger and bitterness," (Col. 3:8).

Confess to God that you have held your anger inside and that you are bitter. Ask His forgiveness for handling your anger in a sinful way. Then confess your bitterness to your spouse and ask forgiveness. Find a counselor or trusted friend who can help you release your spouse and your anger to God, in order to live a constructive life in the future. Let me admit that a one time confession of bitterness may not eliminate all hostile feelings. If the bitterness has been there a long time, the hostile feelings may die slowly.

Paul said, "Never pay back evil for evil... Never take your own revenge, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay,' says the Lord" (Romans 12:17,19).

You may have been greatly wronged by your spouse, but it is not your responsibility to punish them for their sin. They must face God with their sin, and God is a just judge. Verbal retaliation accomplishes no constructive purpose. Seeking the good of your mate, which the Bible calls love, has much potential for good.

Voice of the Martyrs Prayer Update for week of Oct. 28, 2011

The Voice of the Martyrs USA: www.persecution.com

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8

Algeria—Authorities Order Church Closed—VOM Contacts

Exodus 34:9
Then he said, “If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we are a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”

On Oct. 17, Algerian authorities ordered the closure of a church in the country’s second largest city because the church did not have a registration certificate, according to a VOM worker in the region. The 90-member House of Hope church in Oran runs several ministries in the Ain-Turck neighborhood, including a Bible school, a media studio, a safe house and a network of evangelists. When church representatives visited the state office to inquire about necessary documentation, no one could tell them what was required for church registration. After further inquiries, the minister of the interior told church representatives that he did not know who ordered the church to close. “It looks like an attempt from the authorities to test the church’s reaction,” said a VOM worker. “In Algeria, nothing is guaranteed, so we trust our Lord and move boldly.” House of Hope is continuing its services. Pray for favor from the authorities as well as wisdom and perseverance for the church’s leaders.

Pakistan—Asia Bibi Reportedly Beaten—VOM Contacts, Compass Direct News

Psalm 6:8–10
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity;
For the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.
The LORD has heard my supplication;
The LORD will receive my prayer.
Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled;
Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.

A Pakistani newspaper has reported that Asia Bibi was beaten by a prison guard earlier this month. The guard was reportedly suspended for three months, and a source told Compass Direct News that jail authorities pressured Asia and Ashiq to refrain from reporting the incident. Ashiq told VOM workers that jail management has been good to Asia. He reported that Asia said, “I am not horrified by this incident. God is with me; I have a Bible in my cell. I feel strong and protected.” Asia, who received a death sentence last year after being convicted of blasphemy, has been kept in a high-security cell in Sheikhupura jail because of death threats against her. Continue to pray for Asia’s safety, and pray for VOM staff and friends as they travel to Washington, D.C., in a few weeks to present a petition appealing for mercy in Asia’s case.

Nigeria—Boko Haram Kill Second Christian Leader in Three Months—Compass Direct News

Psalm 146:9
The LORD watches over the strangers;
He relieves the fatherless and widow;
But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.

A second Nigerian evangelist has been murdered by members of the Islamist group Boko Haram less than three months after the group killed a Maiduguri pastor and church secretary. Mark Ojunta, a 36-year-old evangelist from southern Nigeria, was working with Calvary Ministries (CAPRO) among the Kotoko people in northeastern Nigeria when he was shot on Aug. 27 in Maiduguri. CAPRO had evacuated all staff members working among the Shuwa Arab, Kotoko and Kanuri peoples after learning that they were on a Boko Haram hit list. But Ojunta had returned to teach a class after his family was evacuated. A CAPRO press statement stated that he died “as a martyr on his field among the Kotokos.” Four days before his death, Ojunta reportedly declined an invitation to take a position at CAPRO’s International office in London. He leaves behind his wife, Ema, and two young children. Pray for his family, CAPRO staff and all Christians in Nigeria.

PrisonerAlert Update: Arezo Teymouri

Location: Iran (Islamic Republic of)
Arrested: September 2010

Update: Arezo Teymouri Released
Here is an update on an Iranian couple many of you prayed for earlier.

Arezo Teymouri and her husband Arash Kermanjani were arrested in 2010 at the home of Vahik Abrahamian. The couple was released from prison in April 2011 and left Iran soon afterward for Turkey. There they received medical treatment.

A VOM contact reports, "The major problem with Arezo's leg - which would have required major surgery - is now gone! She was jumping up and down, to the initial consternation of her husband. It appears that the leg is healed!"

Arezo has been able to pick up Turkish easily, and they were well received there. Arash and Arezo are not in the UN asylum system and are recovering well.

Backstory:
Pastor Vahik Abrahamian and his wife Sonia Keshish-Avanesian were with their friends, Arash Kermanjani, and his wife, Arezo Teymouri, when all four were detained on September 4, 2010.

The two couples, who are close friends, were arrested at the Abrahamians' home in Hamadan, west Iran, and taken to the Ministry of Islamic Guidance prison.

For the first 40 days, they were held in solitary confinement and reportedly suffered physical abuse and psychological pressure. Pastor Vahik's wife Sonia, who was pregnant when she was arrested, is said to have suffered a miscarriage – her fourth.

The four have been accused of various offenses, including propagating Christianity, opposing the Islamic Republic of Iran, and having contact with exiled opposition figures. They have not yet been charged.

Over six months have passed since the two men and two women were arrested. They are under pressure and intense interrogation, according to Mohabat News. They were transferred from Hamadan prison to Iran’s notorious Evin prison in Tehran.

Their families are concerned for their health, but have not been able to find news of their loved ones. They are also worried about the children of the believers.

PrisonerAlert Update: Zhang Rongliang

Location: China
Arrested: December 2004
Days Imprisoned: 2464

Released Aug. 31, 2011

Update: Pastor Zhang Released
After seven and half years of in prison, Pastor Zhang Rongliang was released. Even though he was tortured and even faced death, Zhang intends to continue ministering and living for the Lord. He has moved to a coastal town to live with a family member, rest, spend quiet time with God and seek his will for future ministry.

Pastor Rongliang thanks the Lord and all those who prayed for him during his time in prison. It is uncertain whether government officials are keeping him under surveillance. Please pray for Zhang as he recovers and continues ministering in China.

Backstory
Pastor Zhang Rongliang was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison. According to China Aid Association the verdict was issued by Zhongmu County People’s Court.

Pastor Zhang Rongliang, a prominent Chinese house church leader, was arrested in a rented apartment at Xuzhai village the afternoon of December 1, 2004. Zhang already had spent 12 years in prison for his faith during five separate detentions. He experienced harsh torture, including electric shock, during his previous prison terms. After being held in prison for a year, officials attempted to transfer him from a prison in Xinmi to one in Zhongmu. Fearing that because of his fragile condition he might die, officials at Zhongmu would not accept him. He was instead taken to a hospital in Xinmi.

Pastor Zhang suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure in addition to other chronic health problems. Later he was transferred to a Zhongmu City hospital where he spent most of February and March 2006.

He appeared in court April 6, 2006, more than 16 months after his arrest, for his third hearing on charges of “attaining a passport through cheating” and “illegal border crossing.” At this hearing the court acknowledged there was insufficient evidence for the case and asked for legal advice from a higher court.

PrisonerAlert: Mehdi “Petros” Foroutan

Location: Iran (Islamic Republic of)
Arrested: September 2011
Days Imprisoned: 35

Mehdi “Petros” Foroutan, a 27-year-old pastor in Iran, was arrested in January 2010 and charged with crimes against national security and blasphemy against Islam. Although acquitted of the blasphemy charge and released on bail a month later, Pastor Foroutan was sentenced to one year in prison. Unlike most people who wait for an arrest warrant, Pastor Foroutan reported to prison on Sept. 25, 2011, to begin serving his sentence.

Almost immediately, Pastor Foroutan was transferred to the area of the prison for recovering drug addicts in Shiraz. It is often called “the end of the road” for addicts and drug dealers. Please pray for Pastor Foroutan’s safety and protection from easily transferred diseases as he lives among drug addicts. Pray that God uses and works through the pastor to free those held captive by addiction.

Please write a letter of encouragement to Pastor Forouton and let him know you are praying for him. Please do not speak negatively of the Iranian government in your letter or mention the name of the organization that provided this information.

Hal Lindsey Report (10-28-11): 300 Strong

via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries email

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'

We have reached a significant milestone on "The Hal Lindsey Report." This is edition #300.

We launched "The Hal Lindsey Report" in February, 2006. At the end of 2005, through circumstances beyond my control, I found myself without a weekly television program for the first time in almost a decade. I had produced "The International Intelligence Briefing" at Trinity Broadcasting Network since the mid-'90's.

But now, I stood at a crossroads. I didn't feel my television ministry was over, but I did not have the resources to begin a new one from scratch. At TBN, the network provided the production facilities, the producer/director, the crew, and the airtime -- which, alone, was more than I could afford. In return, all contributions received by the network from donors wanting to support the show went directly into TBN's coffers.

As a result, when I made the painful decision to leave the network, I didn't even have the funds to make a pilot program, much less the tens of thousands of dollars it takes to purchase airtime. On top of that, networks require programmers to contract for specified periods of time, which makes the amounts required even higher!

During this time, I was teaching a weekly Bible study at a church in Palm Desert, California. The study was sponsored by a ministry which serves seniors 50 years and older. During the fall and winter season (which is the prime season in the resort area surrounding Palm Springs), around 500-700 people attended the study each week.

One night, I casually mentioned that God was speaking to me about starting a new television program in the same "news, commentary, and prophetic perspective" format as "The International Intelligence Briefing" had been at TBN. I told the audience that I felt God was not finished with this part of my ministry, but I had absolutely no way to begin. So I asked them to pray with me about it. I then proceeded to the Bible study.

A gentleman in the audience was visiting from Oregon. He had come to Palm Springs to purchase a Ferrari. Just in case you're not up on your expensive Italian automobiles, a Ferrari is an expensive Italian automobile!

After the session, my friend who organized and moderated the weekly study came up to me. He told me that after the meeting a gentleman had approached him and handed him a check. This fellow said that he had come to the desert to buy a Ferrari, but God spoke to him and told him to help Hal launch his television program instead. So he did.

When I opened the check, I almost fainted. It was made out for $100,000.

There's an old missionary saying that I believe is the gospel truth: "Where God guides, He provides. Where He leads, He feeds." God had been guiding me to begin a new television ministry, and now He had provided!

With that initial contribution, we were able to secure a place to produce the new program, hire a producer/director, and buy enough airtime on two small Christian networks to get started. And we've never looked back. God has provided every step of the way.

Today, "The Hal Lindsey Report" is broadcast on three major international networks, a regional network, and several independent stations. It is available in more than 90% of the homes in America -- and on multiple channels in more than half of those homes. It is seen around the world in almost 200 nations, territories, and protectorates. It is accessible 24/7 on the internet and is now carried as a radio program 9 times each week in Israel!

God has miraculously provided for this ministry, but He has done it through you. Without your faithful and remarkably consistent prayer and financial support, we could never have made it to edition #300, much less see this grow into a worldwide ministry. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for your generosity and faithfulness. I thank God; I thank you; and I thank God for you.

In observance of this special occasion, this week I am going to share with you my reflections on a Biblical account that I think holds a special message for viewers and supporters of "The Hal Lindsey Report." When God called Gideon to defend Israel and deliver it from the Midianites and Amalekites, He chose to do it in a way that was guaranteed to bring all the glory to Himself. Rather than allow Gideon to raise a formidable army to challenge the hundreds of thousands that the enemy had assembled, God showed Gideon a simple test that would produce the group that He wanted to use.

When it was complete, only 300 men were left. And those were exactly the ones God wanted. He used that tiny group to win a great victory over a massive army. In doing so, God left no doubt that it was He who had delivered Israel.

You probably think you've already made the connection. 300 men. 300 editions. Well, it goes a bit deeper than that. For me, the parallel is not the number, but the qualities demonstrated by the men Gideon chose. I see those same qualities in you, the regular viewers and faithful supporters of this ministry.

Tune in this week and find out what that real connection is. Maybe you'll learn if you would have been one of the 300 that Gideon chose. I believe those same traits are what God is looking for in us in these last days.

Don't miss this week's Report on TBN, Daystar, Inspiration, CPM Network, various local stations, www.hallindsey.com or www.hischannel.com.

Thanks again for doing your part in reaching this important milestone and for standing with me as a "watchman on the wall." Only God knows the reward you will share in Heaven for your role in winning thousands -- maybe millions -- through the worldwide witness of "The Hal Lindsey Report."

God Bless,

Hal Lindsey

A Personal Problem, But What's More Important?

A personal story of mine: I have been trying to reach out to a certain person for quite some time with the Word and participating in Godly activities. We used to do this together all the time for a few years, but then it dwindled until it became practically non-existent. This person still claims to be a Christian, but whenever I try to approach them with doing the things that we used to do together they are pretty much never willing to do so. Sometimes they will say that possibly at some point they will, but then it never happens. I hardly ever go out of my way to ask them if they would like to do one of those activities anymore because I know what answer I will probably get, but moreso because they give me this attitude that they feel pushed if I do ask them. I don't understand why this person keeps behaving this way with me if they still consider themself a Christian and I am not even being pushy. I recently asked this person yet again if they would be willing to do a certain activity and they said maybe, but not with me, only with someone else. This really upset me because I felt like first of all, why is this person so against doing these Godly activities together and secondly why is this person so against doing them with me. They like to do some other activities with me, but when it comes to doing more Christian-type activities together, such as reading the Bible or watching a Christian movie or going to church suddenly it's like no. It really upsets me because I feel rejected and I feel like my Christian beliefs are being silenced, in the sense that this person doesn't allow me to fellowship with them as a believer. I am only allowed to do secular activities with them. I don't understand what they have against me, or against God perhaps? I am also the one that brought the Gospel message to them for which they got saved with in the first place. They really looked up to me and were heavily influenced by me. Now, when it comes to Christianity they treat me in a negative way. I prayed to God about this. Believe me, I have prayed many times concerning these issues. Even though I feel hurt by their negative attitude and treatment of me the thought came to me after prayer concerning this. A question popped in my mind that said, "What is more important: That they get the Word or that they get the Word with you?" I responded, "That they get the Word." Afterward, I concluded that even though I feel hurt by this person's attitude, I will feel grateful if they actually do Christian activities at all even if they refuse to do them with me; because I think them getting the Word in and fellowship is more important than my personal feelings of rejection and offense.

Applying Sentiment Analysis to the Bible

Sentiment analysis involves algorithmically determining if a piece of text is positive (“I like cheese”) or negative (“I hate cheese”). This visualization explores the ups and downs of the Bible narrative, using sentiment analysis to quantify when positive and negative events are happening:
Things start off well with creation, turn negative with Job and the patriarchs, improve again with Moses, dip with the period of the judges, recover with David, and have a mixed record (especially negative when Samaria is around) during the monarchy. The exilic period isn’t as negative as you might expect, nor the return period as positive. In the New Testament, things start off fine with Jesus, then quickly turn negative as opposition to his message grows. The story of the early church, especially in the epistles, is largely positive.

For a fuller, sharper image and further explanation of the analysis go to the source here: http://www.openbible.info/blog/2011/10/applying-sentiment-analysis-to-the-bible/

Hal Lindsey Report (10-21-11): Lawless, Fast and What?, Mystery of Iniquity, Das Kapital and Life or Death?

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'

A recurring theme used in the Bible to describe the state of man in the last days is "lawlessness." Now, I know that "lawlessness" as referred to on many occasions in the Bible means much more than small-time hoods knocking over liquor stores or mafia dons running numbers and prostitution rings.

I believe the "lawlessness" that is prophesied to characterize the last-days will be a general state of disregard and disdain for the righteous and holy, the good, the right, the lawful, even the civil. It goes without saying that we'll see a rise in crime as the end approaches and Satan expands his influence in this world. But the Bible indicates we'll see other expressions of "lawlessness," too.

We Americans have been blessed to live our lives in this Republic that is founded on laws, not the whims of men. This "society of laws" is guaranteed by our Constitution, perhaps one of history's grandest, most unique documents.

But we are witnessing a continuous erosion of the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution. As our leaders display less regard for the authority of the founding document, our society suffers.

This administration has shown that it values its own ideology above the US Constitution. Charged with upholding the nation's laws, it has willfully refused to enforce or defend those laws on more than one occasion. Attorney General Eric Holder refused to defend the "Defense of Marriage Act," refused to prosecute the New Black Panthers for blatant voter intimidation, and turned a blind eye to "Operation Fast and Furious."

The administration refuses to enforce existing immigration law and sued those states who did. It illegally engaged in military adventures without the concurrence of Congress. It charged in to bail out corporations, took ownership stakes, and saw to it that its union cronies were rewarded before secured creditors. It even forcibly passed an omnibus healthcare program that broke all convention to force all citizens to purchase a product -- legislation that will almost certainly be declared unconstitutional next year.

It has consistently circumvented the other branches of the federal government by taking actions administratively that have been forbidden by the courts or the Congress. And those are just some of the things we know about!

So, if the very ones charged by the Constitution with upholding the law are themselves engaged in lawlessness, what does that portend for the rest of our society? And for our future?

The latest example of the administration's refusal to uphold the law involves the State Department. US law requires that the place of birth for any US citizen born in Jerusalem be listed in his or her passport as "Jerusalem, Israel." The State Department, which issues American passports, ignores that law and, instead, lists the place of birth as simply "Jerusalem." No mention of Israel.

Could the motive be any more obvious? The Muslims and Palestinians do not want Jerusalem to be identified as part of Israel. And since the administration is obsessed with pleasing the Muslims and Palestinians, but couldn't care less about what the Jews and Israelis want, they refuse to obey the law. Not only does this demonstrate a disdain for our entire system of law, but it illustrates the administration's anti-Israel bias.

The Supreme Court has now agreed to hear a case involving this issue. As a result, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton now has to defend her refusal to uphold a law that she voted FOR when she was a senator from New York.

The Bible predicts that between man's "sin nature" and Satan's desire to "kill and destroy" God's creation, lawlessness will one day engulf the world. In fact, it predicts that the world will be completely controlled by a person it describes precisely as the "lawless one" -- the Antichrist. The only thing that prevents that from happening today is the presence in the world of the "restrainer of lawlessness" -- the Holy Spirit.

But someday soon, God the Father will decide that the world has finally chosen "lawlessness" and He will remove the Restrainer. And since the Restrainer indwells all true believers, that means He can only be removed if WE are removed from this earth. That's what we refer to as "the Rapture." Don't miss that escape. Trust me, you do not want to be on this earth when lawlessness reigns.

I'll bet you thought Karl Marx was an obscure German philosopher who wrote a couple of books in the 19th century that are now gathering dust on library shelves around the world. Wrong! The works of Karl Marx, most notably "Das Kapital" and "The Communist Manifesto," are alive and well. In fact, they're apparently the guiding documents of much of what we see happening in America today.

If anyone tries to tell you that Marxism, Socialism, and, believe it or not, Communism are hazy ghosts from the ancient past, don't believe them. Marxism is the guiding philosophy of the current administration, socialism is its determined goal, and communism may well be the result of its efforts if it gets its way and another four years.

If you don't believe me, just read the signs and placards of the "Occupy Wall Street" movements that the administration has lustily embraced. Further, just look at the destructive spending and smothering regulatory programs that the administration pursues with "ram it down your throat" tactics. These are not just the miscalculations of a naive and incompetent leadership. These are considered, purposeful actions designed to crash and destroy capitalism and our way of life so that another can be instituted in its place.

Far be it from me to say to America, "Wake up and smell the coffee," but, America, wake up and smell the coffee! And Believers, wake up and seek God's mercy on our great nation!

Finally, the world's most famous hostage, Israeli IDF sergeant Gilad Shalit, is home at last. He was released by Hamas on Tuesday. To win his freedom, Israel agreed to release 1,027 Palestinian prisoners, including about 400 with "blood on their hands." That means they were directly linked to the deaths of Israeli Jews in terrorism attacks.

The debate now begins over whether Israel paid too high a price for this lone soldier's freedom. Whatever the conclusion, it illustrates one thing perfectly: Judeo and Christian societies value Life. Muslim societies value Death. For the Israelis, one young Jewish life is worth 1,000 terrorists and murderers. For the Palestinians, the return of 1,000 terrorists and murderers as "heroes" is worthy of celebration.

i think the more you learn and grow in the faith the more the devil will try to attack you because he doesn't want you to realize how much power you have and that you can use that power against him, and also because he wants to prevent you the best he can from doing God's work and speaking the truth to others because he hates God and he hates God's creation; but the Bible says that it is our faith that overcomes the world and that Jesus has already overcome it all

A Love Language Minute: A Tender Touch

by Dr. Gary Chapman

A Tender Touch
Keeping emotional love alive in a marriage makes life much more enjoyable. How do we keep love alive after the "in-love" emotions have evaporated? I believe it is by learning to speak each other's "love language." This week we will focus on physical touch.

For some husbands, when they hear the words physical touch, they immediately think of sex. But sexual intercourse is only one of the dialects of this love language. Holding hands, kissing, embracing, back rubs, or an arm around the shoulder are all ways of expressing love by physical touch.

Physical touch can make or break a marital relationship. Do you know how to speak this love language? To the spouse whose primary love language is physical touch, nothing is more important than your tender touches. You may give them words of affirmation or gifts, but nothing communicates love like physical touch.

Touches may be explicit and call for your full attention, such as a back rub or sexual foreplay. They can be implicit and require only a moment, such as putting your hand on his shoulder as you pour a cup of coffee. Once you discover that physical touch is the primary love language of your spouse, you are limited only by your imagination. Kiss when you get in the car. It may greatly enhance your travels. Give a hug before you go shopping. You may hear less griping when you return. Remember, you are learning to speak a new language.

When you reach out with tender touch, you create emotional closeness. This is especially true if the primary love language of your spouse is physical touch. You may say, "What if I'm just not a toucher? I didn't grow up in a touchy-feely family." The good news is that you can learn to speak this love language. It can begin with a pat on the back, or putting your hand on their leg as you sit together on the couch.

Almost instinctively in a time of crisis, we hug one another. Why? During these times, we need to feel loved more than anything. All marriages will experience crises. Disappointments are a part of life. The most important thing you can do for your wife in a time of crisis is to love her. If her primary love language is physical touch, nothing is more important than holding her as she cries. Your words may mean little, but your physical touch will communicate that you care. In a time of crisis, a hug is worth more than a thousand words. Physical touch is a powerful love language.

A Love Language Minute: An Encouraging Story

by Dr. Gary Chapman

An Encouraging Story

Mark Twain once said, "I can live for two months on a good compliment." Good for Mark Twain, but I don't know many husbands and wives who can survive on six compliments a year. Solomon, author of the ancient Hebrew wisdom literature, wrote, "The tongue has the power of life and death. "Many couples have never learned the tremendous power of verbally affirming each other. Verbal compliments are powerful communicators of love.

A Kind Tongue

There is a difference between encouraging words and nagging words. Encouraging words always focus on something your spouse wants to do, not something you want them to do. A nag is anything you tell your spouse more than three times. If we are to express love by words of affirmation, those words must be kind words.

Kindness also has to do with the manner in which we speak. Sometimes our words are saying one thing, but our tone of voice is saying another. Our spouse will usually interpret our message based on our tone of voice, not the words we use. The same words expressed with a loud, harsh voice will not be an expression of love, but an expression of condemnation and judgment.

An Encouraging Story

One way to verbally affirm your spouse is to give encouraging words. Allison always wanted to be a writer, but after receiving her first rejection slip from the publisher, she gave up. One evening her husband Keith came into the den and said, "I hate to interrupt your reading, but I have to tell you this. I just finished reading your article. Allison, you are an excellent writer. This stuff ought to be published! Your words paint pictures that I can visualize. You have got to submit this stuff to some magazines."

"Do you really think so?" Allison asked.

"I know so," Keith said. "I'm telling you, this is good."

Ten years later, Allison has had several articles published and has her first book contract. She credits her success to Keith's words of encouragement. Perhaps your spouse has untapped potential in one or more areas of life. That potential may be awaiting your encouraging words.

Can we know when Jesus will return?

by Chuck McKnight, AiG–U.S.
April 15, 2011, updated October 21, 2011

A: May 21 came and went. There was no worldwide earthquake. There was no rapture. The Lord did not choose that day to return. Harold Camping once again demonstrated the biblical truth, “You know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming” (Matthew 25:13). Unfortunately, like so many false prophets before him, Camping refuses to admit he was wrong. Instead, he has stated that Judgment Day really did occur—it was just a “spiritual” judgment—and Christ will actually return on October 21. Harold Camping has given us a clear example of the absurdities one must go to in defense of an allegorical interpretation of the Bible. We urge you to simply take the Bible as it is written and to interpret a given passage according to the principles consistent with its particular genre. When we try to spiritualize a historical account or add in a double-meaning not clearly stated in scripture, we do injustice to the Word of God.

Voice of the Martyrs Prayer Update for week of oct. 21, 2011

The Voice of the Martyrs USA: www.persecution.com

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Iran—Crackdown on Satellite Dishes—Mohabat News

Luke 12:26
If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?

Police officers from Iran’s security forces are now authorized to enter private residences to confiscate satellite dishes, and Tehran’s police commissioner declared that authorities intend to seize every dish. Police already confiscate satellite dishes installed in plain view, but with a judicial warrant they can now enter homes to search for hidden dishes. Hossein Sajedinia, Tehran’s police chief, said that although the plan is not meant to be carried out with hostility, nothing will prevent its completion. Eyewitnesses have already reported seeing security officers in various cities enter homes without warrants and seize satellite dishes, according to reports from Mohabat News.

India—Students Must Pay Idol-Worship Fee—Compass Direct News

Psalm 25:2
O my God, I trust in You;
Let me not be ashamed;
Let not my enemies triumph over me.

Christian orphans in West Bengal, India, must pay a fee for idol worship in order to gain admission to a high school. The fee is charged at government and government-aided schools. Subimal Dutta, director general of the society that operates the Gilgal Children’s Home, has received threats for opposing the fee. In early September, extremists threatened to shut down the mission if Dutta did not stop all Christian activities at the society within seven days. They also warned him not to contact police or administrative officials. On Sept. 23, Dutta made an agreement with the village head, local political party and the Ambassadors Service Society that students would pay the idol‐worship fee without complaint. Pray that God will give Dutta wisdom in this situation.

Mexico—Evangelicals Expelled from Village—Worthy News

Isaiah 58:7
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?

At least 70 evangelical Christians are homeless after being expelled by local authorities from the village of San Rafael, Tlanalapan. Local traditionalist Catholic leaders ordered 50 Protestant families to leave the village in Puebla state by Sept. 12, but some were allowed to stay under the condition that they worship outside the area. The traditionalist Catholics, a sect that blends Roman Catholicism with indigenous spiritualism, reportedly threatened to “crucify or lynch” the evangelicals. A regional government official, Roberto Solano Pineda, told La Jornada news agency that “local authorities agreed that evangelicals who are not originally from the area must leave, as the state government cannot guarantee their safety.” The village mayor feared that he, too, would be expelled by the traditionalists if he tried to stop the expulsions, according to Mexican media reports. A few residents reportedly expressed regret that authorities did not pressure the local priest to halt the expulsions. Pray that God will provide a place for these newly homeless Christians.

Hal Lindsey Report (10-14-11): Damascus Will Be First, No Tea Party! and Is Mormonism Christian?

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'

You would think after a half-century of studying Bible prophecy, teaching it, writing about it, and producing a weekly television program on the subject for the last 15 years, nothing would surprise me. Not so. I am continually amazed by how precisely the predictions of the ancient prophets are unfolding in the news.

How's this for prophetic precision? Last week, Iran's Fars news service reported that Syrian president Bashar al-Assad threatened to unleash a missile attack on Tel Aviv if NATO or Turkey dared interfere in Syria's affairs.

This wasn't an off-the-cuff, rash remark made in a fit of anger. He's issued this threat before. On August 9th, Assad told the Turkish Foreign Minister that "it would take only six hours for Syria to devastate Tel Aviv and ignite the Middle East."

Now, as ominous as that sounds, it's not the part of the story that raises the red flag for prophecy watchers. Middle Eastern hotheads have been threatening to wipe out Israel for decades.

Here's the critical part. Debkafile.com reports that after the first threat, Israel sent Syria a warning. In part, the message said, "If a single missile explodes in Tel Aviv, Damascus will be the first to pay the price.."

That raises the goosebumps, doesn't it?

This is the exact scenario foretold by the prophet Isaiah thousands of years ago. He said that a showdown would take place between Syria and Israel, like two gunfighters facing off in the dusty street of an old western town, complete with the townspeople clearing out to hide in the saloon and the stores. According to Isaiah, the rest of the world "will flee far away, and be chased like chaff in the mountains before the wind, or like the whirling dust before a gale."

Then Syria will draw, but before it can clear leather, Israel will strike and Damascus will cease to exist. Here's how Isaiah described it: "And at evening time, behold, there is terror! Before morning they are no more."

Isaiah predicted that Damascus, the oldest continually inhabited city in the world - which has never been destroyed - will disappear in one night. Before today, that would not have been even technically possible. With nuclear weapons, it won't take an evening.

And now the threat has been publicly made and the counter-threat has been delivered. I'm not saying when this will happen, but once an embattled dictator publicly suggests the possibility, I believe the chances of someone choosing that option increase considerably. And the possibility has to be considered that one of Syria's allies (Iran? Hezbollah? Hamas?) may actually be the one to pull the trigger.

Need I say it again? Get ready! Christ's coming cannot be far away.

Were you a Tea Partier? I know that many of you were and still are. If you recall, for several weeks, I drank tea on the set of "The Hal Lindsey Report" in honor of the Tea Party's efforts.

Well, according to the Left, there's a new movement in town that they're describing at the 'tea party of the Progressives.' I think that description of the "Occupy Wall Street" protests is stretching it a bit and on this week's show I'll tell you why.

I suppose there are similarities: they are protests and the protesters are people. I guess that about does it. To paraphrase former vice-presidential candidate Lloyd Bentsen, "I knew the Tea Party and you're no Tea Party!"

Another thing that continually amazes me is how you never know what bit of news is going to capture the spotlight at any given moment. With, among other things, the dismal American economy, the imminent collapse of the eurozone, the baseball playoffs, the undoing of Attorney General Eric Holder, and myriad other hot news stories being ignored by the Mainstream Media, who would have thought that a comment made by a Southern Baptist pastor would grab the spotlight.

At last week's Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., Dr. Robert Jeffress, pastor of The First Baptist Church of Dallas, introduced Texas governor Rick Perry. In his remarks, Dr. Jeffress noted that Governor Perry was a born-again evangelical Christian. He called him a "genuine follower of Jesus Christ."

Though he named neither of them, the press considered the remark an obvious reference to former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former Utah governor Jon Huntsman, Jr., both Mormons. When questioned about it later, Dr. Jeffress told reporters that the Mormon Church is a "cult" and that Romney is "not a Christian."

The pastor later clarified his remarks by explaining that, theologically speaking, Mormonism is not Christianity. Mainstream Christianity has long considered the Mormon church to be a "theological cult," as opposed to a sociological cult.

I suppose you can guess that Governor Romney considered the remark a personal attack and condemned it as "poisonous language."

Governor Perry is caught in a tough spot. I was disappointed that he later tried to distance himself from Dr. Jeffress' comment and, to a degree, repudiated the idea that Mormonism is a cult. But I was pleased that, when later pressed to go further, Governor Perry refused to equate Mormonism with Christianity.

On this week's program, I'll explain why, no matter what you call Mormonism, it is not Christian. I'll explain why mainstream Christianity has always regarded it as a "cult." I'll also tell you why this incident represents a dangerous new development regarding our rights as Christians and American citizens.

I believe that it is NOT hate speech or intolerance to declare what Jesus Christ Himself declared. It is NOT bigotry to say that a religion that denies the most basic of all Christian doctrines is not Christian. Refusing to change one's own basic beliefs in order to be "politically correct" is not bigotry, either. But this is nothing less than what is being demanded of us now. And daily we see the Left, the media, and anti-Christian forces very effectively using charges of 'hate speech', intolerance, and bigotry to silence Christian voices.

And it will not get better or easier. So my advice is to begin now to prepare for that day. Search your heart to see what you really believe and begin to define what you're willing to lose your friends, your freedom, and maybe your life for.

That day is coming and probably sooner than we think.

PrisonerAlert Update: Asia Bibi

Petition to free Asia Bibi: http://www.callformercy.com/
Asia is Well Cared For in Prison
A Pakistani newspaper reported Asia Bibi was "tortured" in prison last week, but her husband Ashiq says it's not true. Asia is detained in a special high security cell that only jail management can access.

A new female prison officer got angry with Asia, but others intervened before the officer could beat Asia. The woman was suspended for three months by jail management.

Through Ashiq, Asia said, "The jail management is good to me." One of the officers is particularly caring toward Asia.

Thank the Lord that he is caring for Asia, even in prison. Continue to ask for her release.

Back Story
Asia Bibi, a 37-year-old Pakistani woman from the village of Ittanwali, was arrested by police on Friday, June 19, 2009. Asia (also called Asia Noreen) is the wife of 50-year-old Ashiq Masih, and their family is one of only three Christian families in a village of 1,500 families.

Many of the local women, including Asia, work on the farm of Muslim landowner Muhammad Idrees. During their work, many of the Muslim women have pressured Asia to renounce Christianity and accept Islam. In June, the pressure became especially strong.

On Friday, June 19, there was an intense discussion among the women about their faith. The Muslim women told Asia about Islam. Asia responded by telling them about her faith in Christ. Asia told the Muslim women Christ had died on the cross for sins, then asked them what Mohammad had done for them, according to VOM sources. She told them Jesus is alive, but Mohammad is dead. “Our Christ is the true prophet of God,” she reportedly told them, “and yours is not true.”

Upon hearing this, the Muslim women became angry and began to beat Asia. Then some men took her and locked her in a room. They announced from the mosque loudspeakers that she would be punished by having her face blackened and being paraded through the village on a donkey. Local Christians informed the police, who took Asia into custody before the Muslims could carry out their plan. She was held at the police station in Nankana city. Christians there urged the police not to file blasphemy charges, but police claimed they were under pressure from local Muslim leaders.

Seventeen months after Asia’s arrest, she was convicted of violating subsection C of Pakistan’s 295 blasphemy law - blasphemy against the prophet Muhammad - and was sentenced to death. No Christian in Pakistan has ever been executed under the blasphemy law, but in several cases, extremists have murdered Christians after their release from prison. Asia’s conviction and death sentence have brought international attention to the country’s blasphemy laws. Christians have called for Asia’s release and for a repeal of the laws, while extremists in Pakistan continue to demand that she be executed.

The Voice of the Martyrs urges Christians around the world to pray for Asia Bibi and her family.

Hollywood Prayer Network Newsletter (october 2011)

October 2011 Newsletter

Dear HPN Pray-ers,

We had a great month in September and look forward to another wonderful month coming up. God is so faithful and He has been doing exciting things in our industry and especially in our community. We want to focus on praising Him this month. Let’s pray!

SUMMARY:

• We praise God for an amazing collaborative Friend/Fund Raising evening
• Praise God for Robert Downey Jr. asking his peers to forgive Mel Gibson
• Keep praying for Justin Bieber and his mom Pattie as they tour South America
• Pray for Laurene Powell Jobs and her four children, after the loss of Steve Jobs
• Pray for Gerard Butler as Sam Childers in "MACHINE GUN PREACHER"
• Pray for Oprah Winfrey and Rosie O’Donnell as they start their new TV ventures
• Pray for the people at the film studios who don’t have an ethical or moral compass
• Pray for the growing interest in Hollywood for "inspirational” films
• Let’s pray for our kids who mass consume all forms of entertainment
• Pray for the growth and eternal effectiveness of the new 24/7 Prayer Room
• Pray for Seth, who is starting a church for people in Adult entertainment
• "The Lord has really put Britney Spears on my heart lately. Please pray for her.”

PRAISES:

• On Thurs., Oct. 6th we had the most miraculous gathering of Christian media professionals and entertainment ministry supporters. This was a collaborative Friend and Fund Raising effort to unify and grow the entertainment ministries, build vision for what God is doing in Hollywood, and raise funds for our non-profit efforts. We PRAISE GOD for that evening. It was full of miracles, amazing stories, tears, new friendships, renewed vision and great hope for the future. Our fabulous emcee, Phil Cooke, wrote an article about the evening and the next day it was picked up by Charisma News. Click HERE to hear his thoughts on the wonderful event.

• Praise God for forgiveness. A beautiful thing happened last night at the American Cinematheque Awards that we have to praise God for. Robert Downey Jr. was honored last night at the 25th annual awards and he asked Mel Gibson to present the award. He said, “When I couldn’t get sober, Mel told me not to give up hope and encouraged me to find my faith…” Then he ended with: “…I would ask that you join me, unless you are completely without sin…, in forgiving my friend his trespasses and offering him the same clean slate you have me..” Let’s start by forgiving both Mel and Robert for any poor choices they’ve made through the years and then pray that the forgiveness Robert asked for Mel from his peers, would make an eternal difference in both of their lives, in the lives of the industry professionals, and with the public. This is an exciting public moment in our mission field! Forgiveness is a powerful thing! For the full story click HERE.

UPDATES:

• Keep praying for Justin Bieber and his mom Pattie as they tour South America this month. And a new book by award-winning author David Buckna explores Justin’s faith as he tours as the world’s most popular teenager. It’s called “Belieber! Fame, Faith and the Heart of Justin Bieber” For more information click HERE.

REQUESTS:

• Pray for Laurene Powell Jobs and her four children, after the loss of her husband, the world's media iCon, Steve Jobs, at the age of 56. It’s such a reminder that a man can have everything the world has to offer and that still doesn’t guarantee any kind of shield or protection from disease or death. Please pray that the rest of his family moves away from Steve’s practice of Zen Buddhism to find the truth of Jesus for their lives. For more information on his religious beliefs click HERE.

• Pray for Gerard Butler whose character, Sam Childers, experienced a conversion experience in "MACHINE GUN PREACHER" - The film is the true story of Childers, an ex-con, drug addict who was in & out of jail until he got saved. Film shows him receiving Jesus in church & getting baptized. Then portrays the ripple of effect of other lives being transformed. The film is rated ‘R’ for violence but it captures a powerful story of redemption and hope. For more info. click HERE.

• Pray for Oprah Winfrey and Rosie O’Donnell as they start their new TV ventures. Oprah just launched her new OWN network and her two new talk shows are Rosie O’Donnell’s daily show, The Rosie Show and Oprah’s weekly 8pm show, Oprah’s Lifeclass. Both of these women have tremendous influence on our culture. May the Lord touch their hearts so that they will exude His truths, His love and His world view. For more info on OWN, click HERE.

• Please pray for the hearts of the people at the film studios who don’t have an ethical or moral compass. Most people have no idea how they’re hurting others with their immoral practices. As you pray, don’t settle for being angry over the injustices, but seek to understand that our mission field is full of spiritually and emotional broken people who don’t know the Lord and therefore have no moral foundation. Many are desperate, scared and insecure which results in lies, illicit behavior and unethical decisions. An article just came out claiming that the Warner Bros. accounting office announced that through “Insane Studio Accounting: Warner Bros Claims $167 Million Loss Over Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix".

• Pray for the growing interest in Hollywood for "inspirational” or “faith-based" films. An Oct. 2nd LA Times article entitled "Hollywood shines a light on the spiritual" discusses the growing number of films that are coming out with themes of faith in them. Maybe this is just a phase or maybe it's a trend, but regardless, let's pray for the Studio Executives to see the benefit of producing films that are "excellent in their craft, and have depth of spirit." Some films mentioned in the article are: "Soul Surfer," "Seven Days in Utopia," "Higher Ground," "Machine Gun Preacher," The Blind Side," and "The Way." May the professionals' hearts be touched as they work on these films and may watching them inspire the audience.

• Let’s pray for the kids in our country, who mass consume films, TV shows, music, video games and YouTube. They don’t understand how it all impacts their world view. Let’s encourage young people to pray for the people they love to watch or listen to in entertainment. You can even encourage them to pray for the top performers in their world each month through our HPN KIDS and TEEN Prayer Calendars. To download a new calendar each month, click HERE.

• Pray with us for the growth and eternal effectiveness of the new 24/7 Prayer Room called Radiance International, set right in the heart of Hollywood, just down the street from HPN! Right on the corner of Sunset and Gower, Radiance offers round the clock prayer and worship for the people, the property, the projects and the profound impact of Hollywood. Let’s also pray for it’s leader, Jonathan Ngai, as he works with other Hollywood leaders to offer his place as a place of refuge, healing, encouragement and prayer. For more information click HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

• Please pray for Seth, who is starting a church for people who work in the adult entertainment industry. May the Lord give him wisdom, favor and impact on the porn industry and all the people in it, through his love for Jesus and his church in the midst of the darkness. May they find freedom from their bondage, because hearing the truth will set them free!

• "The Lord has really put Britney Spears on my heart lately, and I would like to request that we pray for her this month. Her life seems to be pretty stable right now compared to the last few years, but things are not always the same on the inside as they appear to be on the outside. My heart has really been breaking for her these past few days, so I took some time to look at some of her interviews from 2001 through 2011. I was struck by the contrast between what a beautiful, sweet, innocent and promising young girl she was when she was starting out compared to the brokenhearted, hurting young woman with a prematurely aged spirit she has become. When her career began, she was an open hearted girl with a big dream who wanted to succeed on the outside, but who, deep down, really only wanted to be loved: deeply, unconditionally, and eternally.” Mary

TIP OF THE MONTH:
How can we pray the way Jesus prayed? http://christianity.about.com/od/topicaldevotions/a/turningpointpra.htm?nl=1

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
“I will have nothing to do with a God who cares only occasionally. I need a God who is with us always, everywhere, in the deepest depths as well as the highest heights. It is when things go wrong, when good things do not happen, when our prayers seem to have been lost, that God is most present. We do not need the sheltering wings when things go smoothly. We are closest to God in the darkness, stumbling along blindly.” ~Madeleine L'Engle

VERSE OF THE MONTH:
“This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’” Matthew 6:9-13

Should Christians Celebrate halloween?

Question: "Should Christians celebrate Halloween?"

Answer: Whether or not Christians should celebrate Halloween can be a very controversial topic. Some Christians celebrate Halloween simply by dressing up in a costume and having fun, seeing it as innocent and harmless. Other Christians are equally convinced that Halloween is a satanic holiday established to worship evil spirits and promote darkness and wickedness. So, who is right? Is it possible for Christians to celebrate Halloween without compromising their faith?

Iran—Pastors Receive Death Threats—ASSIST News Service, Christian Solidarity Worldwide

Romans 15:30
Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me,

On Sept. 14, 11 pastors who recently fled Iran received e-mail death threats from a group calling itself “the unknown soldiers of the Hidden Imam.” Christian Solidarity Worldwide reports that the e-mails threatened the pastors with extra-judicial execution, stating that although the pastors managed to flee Iran, they are not hidden from the “acute eyes of the unknown soldiers.” The e-mails stated that if the pastors do not repent and ask forgiveness, they will be killed. Pastors in the Iranian house church movement are taking the threats very seriously and believe they may be linked to Iranian security forces. Pray for God’s protection of these pastors and Christians throughout Iran.

Egypt—Violent Clashes Leave 25 Dead—Release International, VOM Contacts, Associated Press

Psalm 31:14
But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD;
I say, “You are my God.”

At least 25 people were killed Sunday evening during a demonstration in Cairo by Christians protesting the Sept. 30 destruction of a church building in Aswan Province. The protest, which started at about 4 p.m., occurred in front of the Radio and Television building, the site of earlier Christian protests near Tahrir Square. The protesters were met by thugs who attacked them with stones and sticks. When some of the protesters threw stones at their attackers, the army intervened with live ammunition. National television cameras showed an Egyptian Army armored vehicle drive into the crowd and run over at least 10 people. There were additional reports of violence against Christian-owned businesses and fighting close to the Coptic Hospital, where most of the dead and wounded had been taken. The official death toll is currently 25, and some members of the security forces were reportedly among those killed. More than 200 others were injured, and Christians are alarmed at the disproportionate use of force by the Egyptian Army. Pray that God will give them strength and that they will remember that he is in control.

Laos—Christian Children Barred from School—VOM Contacts

1 Corinthians 12:25
that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.

Six children from five Christian families were prevented from paying tuition and attending classes when school started in September. VOM sources said the head of the village, the police and Communist party members refused to let teachers accept the children back into school. Christians in another village have invited the children into their homes so the children can attend school in their village. They are providing the children with clothing, food, blankets and medicine, and they are paying the children’s tuition and transfer fees as well as a fee to stay in the village. The children’s parents have only been asked to provide rice for their children. When the five families converted to Christianity in 2007, they received threats and pressure to recant, but they remain strong in their faith. Continue to pray for these families, as they trust God in the face of discrimination.

PrisonerAlert Update: Youcef Nadarkhani

Verdict Referred to Supreme Leader

VOM contacts report that Pastor Nadarkhani's verdict has been delayed again by the court in Gilan province. The reason for the delay, according to his attorney, is that they have referred the case to the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It is highly unusual for the court to ask for the legal opinion of the Supreme Leader.

Please continue to pray that Youcef will be pardoned. Pray also for his wife, family and those supporting him.

Prisoner Alert users have reported receiving a letter from the Iranian government renouncing published news about Nadarkhani's case. This is positive! Your voices have been heard and the government of Iran feels the pressure. Please continue to stand with our brother.

Soul Man - Public Embarrassment and Todd's First Sermon

Episode #8 "Public Embarrassment and Todd's First Sermon"
After much lobbying from Todd, Mike gives him the chance to do his first sermon, but they meet resistance from unexpected quarters. Meanwhile, Mike's eldest son finds him embarrassing. (from www.epguides.com)

Series Synopsis: Mike Weber (Dan Aykroyd) is a widowed Episcopal priest who must cope with (among other things) his four children, his obstreperous parishioners in Royal Oak, Michigan, and a wet-behind-the-ears curate who happens to be the nephew of his bishop. (from www.imdb.com)

Dan Aykroyd starred in this short-lived ABC series called "Soul Man." The show only lasted about a season during the late 90's and this is one of the episodes. Sorry for the less-than-average video quality. I recorded this episode on VHS all the way back when it originally aired and I was only 13 at the time.
