Hal Lindsey Report (11-25-11): Corrupted Riches, the Power of Praise
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
A couple of weeks ago, a viewer wrote to me and asked if James 5:1-8 had any prophetic significance. To be candid, I had never carefully studied the passage in that light before. I was surprised to discover that its message really does apply to these times.
To give you just a glimpse of what the Apostle James had to say, he begins, "Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted.... Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you.... You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed, the wages of the laborers who have mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of [Hosts]." And James says even more, much of it condemning of a certain kind of "rich person" or system, the kind who come from a long line of those who became wealthy by defrauding the laborers of their wages.
Now, it's important to make a distinction. The Bible does not condemn everyone who is rich. It's not a sin to have money. It's a sin for money to have you. The Bible teaches, "For the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil...."
But it appears that the Apostle James predicts that in the last days there will be some extremely rich people who gained their wealth by defrauding the vast majority of those who do the labor for the economy. Yet the Lord will cause their wealth to become a snare to them, because the world's economy will collapse around everyone, both the rich and the poor. And, apparently, the greed of the rich will cause them to steal so much that the entire world economy will collapse.
No, I've not joined the "Occupy Wall Street" movement. I believe those kids (read that, the labor unions and "community organizers" who are running the show) are targeting the wrong people. I'm closer to the Tea Party because I think those people got it right. It's not Big Business doing the damage, it's Big Government. But not just the politicians. You see, in the past, the politicians did the heavy lifting for the ones that Abraham Lincoln called the "money power."
Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, and Abraham Lincoln specifically warned against letting the "money power" get its way. But Woodrow Wilson ignored those warnings and crawled into bed with these guys.
As a result, the world's economies are teetering on the verge of collapse. We are literally standing on the precipice of global economic chaos. And all because one hundred years ago we let a few shadowy -- mostly non-American -- wealthy families take control of our nation's money supply, then treasury. Since then, they have plundered America's wealth, literally stolen from its citizens, and driven us into economic bondage -- from which we cannot and will not ever emerge.
Indeed, as James says, "You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you."
But, remember, James also warned, "Your gold and silver will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire."
If you have watched this program very long, you know that I have a huge distrust of and disdain for the Federal Reserve System. As Representative Louis T. McFadden of Pennsylvania said on the floor of Congress in June, 1934, "...the truth is, the Federal Reserve Board has usurped the government of the United States.... It controls everything here.... No man, and no body of men is more entrenched in power than the arrogant credit monopoly which operates the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Reserve Banks. These evildoers have robbed the country of more than enough money to pay the national debt."
I don't believe the Apostle James was referring specifically to the Federal Reserve, or even the world's central banks, in 5:1-8, but I do believe he foresaw that in the last days a small group of ruthless, heartless, greedy, and, yes, evil people would control the economy of the world. And the only thing that can result from the work of ruthless, heartless, greedy, and evil people is heartache, despair, destruction, and chaos. Exactly the setting needed to encourage the people of the world to turn to someone -- anyone -- who has an answer and can save them from disaster. And we know who that "someone" will be: the Antichrist.
Also on this week's program: As we celebrate this Thanksgiving season, I want to share with you why I think it's more important than ever to understand the power of praise in thanksgiving to God. Our nation faces real and present dangers. Our citizenry faces challenges we've not faced in decades. As I report weekly on "The Hal Lindsey Report," the threats are mounting and the odds appear to be impossible. But it's precisely at those moments that the power of praise and gratitude to God can be our pathway to victory.

John 10:10
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
The leaders of First Baptist Church in Bethlehem are becoming increasingly concerned by growing antagonism against them by the Palestinian Authority. First Baptist Church has operated in Muslim-dominated Bethlehem for more than 30 years, and its leaders are no strangers to persecution. The church has been bombed fourteen times and senior pastor Naim Khoury has been shot at several times. This community opposition seems small compared to what the thriving church of 300 now faces. The ruling Palestinian Authority is trying to shut down the church by refusing to recognize it. This position has severe consequences for church members: Parents can’t obtain birth certificates for babies, couples who want to marry cannot get a license, and church members have extreme difficulty in finding employment. Currently, about 70 percent of the congregation is unemployed. A member of a delegation who recently visited the church said, “The intent is obvious: to drive people away from churches in the very city that gave birth to the hope-filled, life-changing message of Jesus Christ.” Please pray for the leaders and members of First Baptist Church.

Lamentations 3:22
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
One of China’s largest house church groups continues to meet in an outdoor space for worship, in spite a months-long campaign by police to deter them. On Nov. 13, Shouwang Church of Beijing attempted to assemble its members for worship in an outdoor shopping plaza for the 32nd time in as many weeks. The standoff began after the unregistered church was repeatedly forced from indoor meeting spaces and began meeting outdoors in protest. According to information published by the church, at least 27 people headed for the service were arrested, either at the meeting spot or en route. One was sent home, but the remaining 26 believers were taken to 12 different police stations around the city. Fifteen of the arrested were released by midnight that night, while the rest were released slowly throughout the night. The last person was released 48 hours after being arrested. As always, church members waited outside police stations with food and clothing for the detained despite freezing winter temperatures. “We especially give thanks to our God for them; they witnessed the love of being members to each other in the body of Christ. We give thanks to our Lord, for he keeps us and protects us,” church leadership wrote in a statement. Thank God for the church’s faithfulness, and pray they will be able to meet freely soon.

Sources indicate that an Iranian court may make a final ruling in the case of house church pastor Youcef Nadarkhani. Nadarkhani has spent the last 25 months imprisoned in Rasht, Iran, convicted of apostasy for leaving Islam. The standard penalty for this crime is death. A Rasht court was due to make a final decision on his case in September, but instead sent the case on to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. During his trial, the court gave Nadarkhani three opportunities to recant his faith, but he repeatedly refused. Sources close to Nadarkhani indicated that he has undergone physical and psychological torture and that authorities have continued to pressure him to recant. Pray for the upcoming verdict in his trial.

Perry Stone - Devil, Quit Messing With My Image!
This is one of the most amazing sermons/teachings I have ever heard. Perry Stone is a great man of God and always has very interesting/insightful messages. This teaching includes just that. The teaching is focused on the fact that we are made in the image of God and that is why the devil hates us, because he hates God and wants to hurt/destroy the image of God. So, there are various bondages, such as drugs and alcohol addiction, that mess with a person's image aka God's image. He starts out with some very interesting information, but the message actually gets better and better as he goes on, and speaks about some incredible stories that he has been through and his family members have been through. Once you start watching this I don't think you would want to stop. His sermons are always that interesting. I have been incredibly blessed by it. I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit after I watched this and prayed along with Perry. I don't care what some people might say. I know that it's Biblical because I believe what the Bible says, and the Bible talks about and teaches speaking in tongues (e.g.: the Church at Pentecost, Paul's letters). Believe the Word! My life has been touched forever. God bless. Praise Him! :D

The Barna Group - "U.S. Lacks Notable Christian Leaders"
November 21, 2011
A new Barna Group study illustrates that no single Christian leader captures the attention of the nation’s population. When asked to identify the single most influential Christian leader in the U.S. today, two out of every five Americans (41%) are unable to think of anyone who would meet that description.

Simple Delight
Simple Delight
November 2011
by John Paul Jackson
http://www.streamsministries.com
God has never stopped being God, and He has never stopped wanting to manifest who He is to His people.
Have you ever known someone who is a true gift giver? People who express their love by giving gifts do not give out of obligation or burden; they give out of delight because it is in their hearts to give. It is how God made them.
Part of being a gift giver is paying attention to the details. It is being aware of the little things so that you can craft a gift that will be perfect for the recipient. God takes great delight in surprising His people with His goodness. He delights in being there for us, in coming through for us. He loves to give us the good gifts of His provision and grace that reveal to us His nature and His character. He will always turn out to be more than we expect.
However, we can get so wrapped up in the “big” things of God that we forget about the “small” things of God. Yes, He rejoices in the sacrifices we make for Him and the risks we take on His behalf. But He also rejoices in the whispers of His name and in the glances sent His direction. Every time His children reach for His hand, it is important to Him. These things matter to Him, more than we realize.
I think that as we rediscover God’s simplicity, we will rediscover our hope.
Eye Has Not Seen
Where hope and expectation collide, faith is birthed. Many of us in the Church have used up our hope, and our expectation in Him has become almost non-existent. Why? Because we have been lulled to sleep. Even in the most intense times of God’s presence, many of us do not expect Him to do what He has never done before — to touch what has never been touched or to heal what has never been healed.
We are not ready for 1 Corinthians 2:9, which states, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
We know that verse is true, but it is as if we know it from a distance; we have a hard time believing it is always true, all the time, in every life.
Yet God is a giver of gifts. And many gift givers do not want to give you something you have received before. Where is the delight in that? They want to give you something new — something that will bring you a new level of delight.
Ear Has Not Heard
Our belief system has taken us to a place where we “believe” God will do something, but we do not really expect Him to do it. We need to undo that mental process and begin to approach Him again like little children. They don’t know what to expect, but they know it is going to be good.
We try to make things so complicated, and in the process, we lose the simplicity of His existence. We forget the delight of the Father’s heart. We overlook the extravagant story offered by the “small” things.
I think that as we rediscover His simplicity, we will rediscover our hope. If we knew how easy it was for His children to delight Him, we would make delighting Him a daily goal, and as a result, we would fall that much more in love with Him.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly implore His protection and favor . . . .Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the twenty-sixth day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these United States . . . that we then may all unite unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are now blessed. . . . And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discretely and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord, to promote the knowledge and practice for the true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows best. Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3rd of October, A.D. 1789. —George Washington.

Voice of the Martyrs Prayer Update for week of Nov. 18, 2011
The Voice of the Martyrs USA: www.persecution.com

India—Ten Christians Attacked and Arrested in Karnataka State
Source: VOM Contacts
Luke 12:50–52
But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished! Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three.
Activists from a Hindu-nationalist movement attacked members of two Christian communities on Nov. 12 and 13 in Karnataka state, accusing them of forced conversions. Ten Bajrang Dal activists stormed into Pastor H. S. Nagaraj’s Sunday service on Nov. 13, interrupting prayer and tearing a Bible to pieces. When local police arrived, they arrested the pastor and three church members. The men are still in prison. On the previous day, six believers were waiting at the Belur bus station after a prayer service when activists from the same group surrounded them and began beating and insulting them. The activists then took the six Christians to the police station, where they were arrested. Three women and a child were later released, but the two men remain in prison. There have been 40 incidents of violence against Christians in Karnataka this year. Pray that our partners will be able to help these believers and that the charges will be dropped. Pray for all Christians in India who face similar circumstances, especially in the six states that have “anti-conversion” laws.
Nigeria—Two Deadly Days for Nigerian Christians
Source: Compass Direct News
John 16:33
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will[a] have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Christians in northern Nigeria have been besieged by a string of recent attacks, some by the al-Qaida-affiliated Boko Haram extremist group. In the most recent incident, on Nov. 4, extremists stormed the city of Damaturu, Yobe state. One hundred fifty people were killed in the four-hour rampage — 130 of them Christians. Ten church buildings were also destroyed in the attacks, and churches that remained in operation saw a dramatic fall in attendance. On the previous day, bomb blasts in nearby Borno state killed four people. And on the same day in Kaduna state, Muslim extremists fired on a church service, killing two Christian women. The same gang raided the Christian community of Kurmin-Bi on Nov. 4, killing one Christian and injuring another. The extremists employed guerrilla tactics, striking and withdrawing, then striking elsewhere while military personnel respond to the first attack. Pray that Christians in Nigeria will know how to lovingly engage their persecutors and that the extremists will come to know the peace of Jesus Christ.
SRI LANKA—Brutal Attack on Christian Workers
Source: Release International, National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka
Romans 16:19
For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil.
The National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) reports that a staff member and volunteer were attacked by a gang and badly injured last month in the town of Vavuniya in Northern Province. The men were driving through town on their motorbike on the evening of Oct. 19, when they were stopped by about 12 people at a junction. The gang beat them so severely with rods and clubs that a helmet worn by one of the Christian workers was shattered. One believer suffered injuries to his head and arm, while the other suffered a broken right arm and injuries to his head and body. One of the two managed to break free and alert the police, but the gang fled before police arrived. The NCEASL workers were initially taken to a hospital in Vavuniya but were later transferred to Colombo for further treatment. The motive for the attack is uncertain, and locals say this is just the latest in a string of violent attacks on citizens in Vavuniya. Pray that the two will heal quickly and be able to return to their work.

India—Ten Christians Attacked and Arrested in Karnataka State

This feature-length animated film was produced by The Voice of the Martyrs with today's persecuted church in mind. Unlike typical depictions of the life of Jesus, this film highlights the courage, conflict and dangers that were associated with following Christ 2,000 years ago.
JESUS: He Lived Among Us will be available for free distribution in hostile and restricted nations and will be a powerful tool in evangelizing those who need to know the cost of following Christ.
Copies in English and Spanish are available in the United States for $15. Quantity discounts are also available.

Hal Lindsey Report (11-18-11): Blast in Iran; the Boot for Syria; ...another for "Palestine.;" Open Mic, Insert Foot; On Its Own and Plan of Action
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
Speculation is flying. Was last week's mysterious explosion at an Iranian military depot near Tehran truly an accident? The blast killed 17 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including a Brigadier General.
The government said the accident occurred when soldiers were moving various munitions inside the depot. However, Western observers think they may have been attempting to mount a nuclear or chemical warhead onto a Shahab-3 missile. The Iranians immediately and specifically denied that charge. In politics, the speed and vehemence of the denial often indicates the presence of truth.
This blast eerily resembles an explosion that occurred at a Syrian facility in 2007. That accident happened when the Syrians were mounting a chemical warhead onto a SCUD missile. Many were killed, including several Iranian advisers. The area around the facility was hastily evacuated. So, too, the area around the facility in Iran.
There is also speculation that outsiders may have had something to do with the explosion. Some are even pointing the finger at Israel. Up to now, though, Iran has not accused another nation of attacking its facility outside Tehran. Of course, to do so would admit to a high degree of vulnerability -- something Iran's leaders cannot afford to do.
The Arab League has given Syria the boot -- at least until it either stops its crackdown on dissenters or gives Bashar al-Assad the boot. Since it appears unlikely to do either, the Arab League is pursuing the same strategy it utilized to topple Muammar Gaddafi in Libya.
It has given Assad a deadline for Syria to cease its brutal retaliation against the opposition demonstrators. More than 3,500 protesters have been killed by Syrian forces. If it fails to stop the crackdown, then the League will move to organize the various factions of opposition into a coherent entity like the Libyan National Transitional Council. Once that happens, the Arab League will then recognize the opposition as the legitimate voice of the Syrian people. Finally, it will help to organize an armed intervention such as the American and NATO operation in Libya.
The United States will be hard-pressed to refuse to participate in such an operation because of the "doctrine" President Obama cited last March to justify America's intervention in Libya. The "doctrine" is called "Responsibility to Protect" and is being promoted by the United Nations. Essentially, "Responsibility to Protect" postulates that a nation's sovereignty is not a right, but a privilege that can be revoked if the country is accused of war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, or ethnic cleansing.
President Obama readily bought into that concept. In a sense, that makes America the world's policeman. You know, I'm almost certain I remember Candidate Obama saying that that is exactly what America is NOT, just three years ago.
By the way, somebody else got the boot last week, too. The admissions committee for the UN Security Council told the Council that it could not make a unanimous recommendation for full membership for Palestine in the United Nations. That effectively kills the Palestinian Authority's end run around the Arab-Israeli peace process. And it also lets the United States off the hook, since it will not be forced to veto the application in the Security Council.
But that doesn't necessarily mean the PA is going to roll over and play dead. In fact, recently "Palestine" was granted full membership in UNESCO -- the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. It's odd that an organization that's supposed to be promoting science and education thought nothing of granting full membership to a 'nation' that doesn't exist. Sort of like man-made climate change, I suppose. Well, this is the UN, so maybe it does make sense!
Anyway, it was this same UNESCO vote that President Obama was chiding French President Sarkozy about after their joint press conference at the G20 summit in Cannes, France, last week. Obama wanted to know why Sarkozy didn't tell him that France was going to vote in favor of admitting the Palestinians. For the record, only 14 nations opposed UNESCO membership for the PA.
I don't know how Sarkozy replied, but I do know what he said next. In fact, the world knows, since both Obama's and Sarkozy's mics were still open after the press conference. The conversation turned to Israel and Sarkozy said: "I can't stand Netanyahu anymore. He's such a liar." To which President Obama replied, "You've had enough of him, but I have to deal with him every day!"
With friends like these....
The comments about Netanyahu have sparked more amusement than outrage worldwide. But in Israel, Obama's approval rating has dropped to 4%, the lowest of any US President in Israel's 63-year history.
It's ironic that these leaders disdain Israel and think Benjamin Netanyhu is a liar, yet they largely accept anything that Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinians say at face value. In reality, they should view with skepticism anything the PA says and accept at face value (as it were) what our strongest Middle East ally says.
But this all fits with the narrative regarding Israel that the West has contrived, which is that Israel is responsible for the Arab-Israeli conflict and that the only side interested in peace is the Palestinian side.
Even former President Bill Clinton weighed in recently with his arrogant delineation of the 'worthiness' of the Jews. He inferred that the only good Israelis are the "pro-peace Israeli-Arabs." They are followed, in order, by the Israeli-born Jews, the Ashkenazi, or European-born Jews, and, finally, the the religious Jews. He said, "The most anti-peace are the ultra-religious who believe they're supposed to keep Judea and Samaria, and the settler groups, and what you might call the territorialists, the people who just showed up lately and they're not encumbered by the historical record."
Apparently young Bill Clinton's Rhodes Scholarship didn't depend on his ability to read history. What "historical record" is he referring to that the "ultra-religious" Jews are not "encumbered by?" The one that says Kind David founded Jerusalem 3,000 years ago? The one involving Biblical Judea and Samaria? The one that includes the Balfour Declaration, the San Remo Conference, and the 1947 refusal of statehood by the Arabs when the United Nations offered them their own state? Or is he just remembering the historical record invented by Yasser Arafat and his terrorist cronies?
Of course, all of this is not lost on Prime Minister Netanyahu and his cabinet. That's why they think that if anything is done to stop Iran's mad dash to nuclear weapons, it will have to be Israel who does it alone. That's why Netanyahu recently told US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta that he won't guarantee that he'll inform Washington in advance if Israel decides to strike Iran. And that's got the Obama Administration pretty nervous.
After my plea last week for Americans, particularly Christians, to stand up and be counted in the fight for America's liberty, some of you wrote to ask me what you can do. This week, I'm going to lay out a simple "plan of action" that all of us can follow in the coming days, weeks, and months. You may think you're too old, too young, too uninformed, too tongue-tied, too poor, too rich, too pious, not pious enough, or too-whatever to make a difference. Well, you're too wrong! You CAN make a difference. And you might be surprised how easy it really is.
I pray that you have a joyous Thanksgiving. We are truly a blessed nation, aren't we? Be sure to take some time to recount those blessings with your family -- especially the young ones. It's that spirit of remembering and appreciating the past that gives us inspiration and encouragement for the future. Next week, I'll share some inspirational thoughts and prophetic perspective for the Thanksgiving season.
I thank God for you, for His blessings, and for our wonderful United States of America.
Happy Thanksgiving!

PrisonerAlert Update: Mehdi “Petros” Foroutan
Location: Iran (Islamic Republic of)
Arrested: September 2011
Days Imprisoned: 54
Update: Almost immediately after Mehdi "Petros" Foroutan reported to prison for his one-year sentence, authorities transferred him to the ward for recovering drug addicts. In October, one month after arriving at prison, Mehdi was put in solitary confinement. He was not allowed to make any phone calls, and his treatment in solitary was unknown.
Thankfully, he was moved out just a few days ago and is no longer in solitary confinement. Mehdi is in the general area of the prison.
Please pray for him. Diseases are easily transferred among the drug addicts, and Mehdi now lives among them. However, this circumstance is an opportunity for him, who can now witness to others in prison.
Backstory:
Mehdi “Petros” Foroutan, a 27-year-old pastor in Iran, was arrested in January 2010 and charged with crimes against national security and blasphemy against Islam. Although acquitted of the blasphemy charge and released on bail a month later, Pastor Foroutan was sentenced to one year in prison. Unlike most people who wait for an arrest warrant, Pastor Foroutan reported to prison on Sept. 25, 2011, to begin serving his sentence.
Almost immediately, Pastor Foroutan was transferred to the area of the prison for recovering drug addicts in Shiraz. It is often called “the end of the road” for addicts and drug dealers. Please pray for Pastor Foroutan’s safety and protection from easily transferred diseases as he lives among drug addicts. Pray that God uses and works through the pastor to free those held captive by addiction.
Please write a letter of encouragement to Pastor Forouton and let him know you are praying for him. Please do not speak negatively of the Iranian government in your letter or mention the name of the organization that provided this information.

A Love Language Minute: A Thankful Workplace
via Love Languages e-Letter
http://www.5lovelanguages.com/
Utilizing Thanksgiving as a Reminder to Appreciate Your Staff
Thanksgiving is the holiday where we are encouraged to be thankful for the good things in our lives - health, safety, adequate food, clothing, and shelter, as well as the many material blessings we have. For most people, Thanksgiving is usually more of a personally-focused celebration, including sharing meals and time with family and friends.
But the Thanksgiving holiday season can also be an opportunity to focus on, and be reminded of, the positive aspects of our work lives. This is especially true in these more difficult economic times, where many who desire employment are unable to find work or have to settle for a job beneath their professional capabilities.
For those who are supervisors, managers, business owners or leaders in their organizations, the Thanksgiving holiday is an excellent reminder to both remember, and communicate, the most valuable asset in your workplace: the people who work there (both employees and volunteers).
While many people sarcastically say, "I'd enjoy my work more, if it weren't for the people"; in reality, most of us have highly talented and valuable colleagues. And a few minutes of reflection can help each of us identify those positive characteristics that our team members bring to the workplace each day.
Identifying the Positive Characteristics of Colleagues.
Think about the individuals you see and with whom you work regularly.
What do they do that makes you smile?
What character quality do they demonstrate, that if it weren't present would really make life at work tough? (e.g. dependability, thoroughness, punctuality, honesty)
What talents or skills do they regularly demonstrate that are part of "who they are"? (e.g. good communication skills, accurate detailed work, being a good problem solver, creative).
Make a list of your teammates, along with the characteristics you've identified.
Communicating your appreciation.
While it's nice (for you) to reflect on and be thankful for the top quality co-workers you have, it would make their day to hear from you what you appreciate about them. Let me give you some tips that will make the appreciation communicated really "hit the mark" (versus "fall flat"):
Make sure your praise is specific and personal. General, impersonal praise is like eating mashed potatoes without gravy or butter - blah. Use their name. Tell them specifically how their positive characteristic makes your life better. Give a specific example, if possible.
Communicate in a way that will be comfortable for you. You can tell them verbally, write an email, or write a handwritten note in a Thanksgiving card. It doesn't have to be a big deal or production. Just do it.
Absolutely be genuine. Don't try to fake it and don't overstate your appreciation ("You are the best accountant in the world!"). Make sure your tone of voice, facial expression, and body language match what you are communicating. If you are rushed, or uptight about something, wait until you have relaxed before talking to them.
A small act of communicating your appreciation to your colleagues may make their whole Thanksgiving a very special holiday. And the rewards you may reap in the coming weeks may be bountiful as well

GIVE THANKS:
• Let’s thank God for screener season. This is the time of year where members of all of the Unions, Guilds and Academies start receiving DVD’s in the mail of this past year’s films. These are the films that the studios want to be nominated for Academy and Guild awards. We all love this time as free movies come pouring into our homes. But we ask for your prayers as voting members choose what they believe are the best films, actors, directors, costumers, writers, art directors, editors, etc. etc. May the Lord give the voters wisdom and discernment in their choices, as they impact the culture and the careers of the professionals through their decisions. For more info on screeners, click HERE.
• Would you thank God for the people who work at Theme Parks across the world! The employees at Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Legoland and other Amusement Parks across the globe, have worked incredibly long hours all through October because of their additional halloween events. The staff runs the regular theme park during the day and these extra events on the weekends. Many people are exhausted heading into the next peak season of holidays, and don't get a break until after the first of the year. Theme park entertainment involves every creative job from technical people to performers and they are often thankless jobs.
• Thank the Lord for Christians who are producing independent films. We thank God for Sean, John, Steve, Allen and other independent filmmakers who pour their hearts and souls into their projects and then trust God that the world can be a little better place because of them.
• Thank the Lord that some parts of the business are doing well. As film revenues drop at most studios and more people are being laid off, Walt Disney posted a 30% boost in last quarter’s net profits, due to their TV channels and Theme Parks. For more information, click HERE.
• We thank God for creative people who also use their art to reach out to others! Two creative people, Steve and Kristen, use art, primarily poetry and photographs, to give hope to the lost in Hollywood. Would you pray for them as you check out their ministry Hope Thru Art on facebook.
• Let’s thank God that TV can be used for such good! The November 3rd episode of "Bones" was dedicated to Emily Maki, a 14-year-old girl, who recently died following a lengthy illness. She is the daughter of Greg Maki who works with HPN member David Endres in Kenosha, Wisconsin. A staff writer is a friend of the Maki family and learned that "Bones" was Emily's favorite television show, so he asked the Producers to dedicate that episode to her.”
• Thank God for the gift of entertainment. A new live Cirque du Soleil show called “IRIS” is playing at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. It’s an incredible celebration of the history of film, told through the French Canadian circus acrobats of Cirque du Soleil. Each breathtaking moment reminds the audience that God finds great joy in the performing arts. We also thank God for Kristen, a generous HPN member who is offering discounted tickets to “IRIS” through January 22nd. To save 20% off select performances, just click on: cirquedusoleil.com/iris Or use promo code CHURCH HERE.
• Thank God for Christians who have a full understanding of how important Hollywood is to Him. HPN member Ginger Kolbaba wrote a great blog on the entertainment industry and HPN. Why don't you support her and her passion for praying for Hollywood by clicking HERE.
• Thank the Lord for his miraculous healing hand. Thank him that He has his hand on Lee, an HPN member and agent, who has just begun chemo treatments for his brain cancer. We look forward to how God is going to turn this into good for Lee and his wife, who both love Him and are called according to His purposes.
• Thank God that Justin Bieber is a Christian. With all of the controversial press about the 17 year old Rock Star, Justin’s latest album hit #1 in the Billboard Chart and it lifts up the name of Jesus. Let’s be praying for Justin and his mom Pattie, and asking that they keep their eyes on the Lord and turn to Him for every decision they make and every relationship they’re in. For more info on Justin click HERE.

Our prayer for Georgia is that God will lift up a standard and that satan will not have a stronghold on the productions made here or anywhere.”
• Samantha Penhale, Omaha, NE – “Pray this over the Omaha Chapter. I will live a God-focused life and pursue intentional community with people who share my passion for restoring the arts to the Kingdom of God, and helping people mature in Christ, in such a way that my time, finances, gifts and relationships reflect these priorities.”

Voice of the Martyrs/IDOP 2010: Salavat's Testimony
This video, produced for The Voice of the Martyrs, shows the real stories of Christians in Uzbekistan, who suffer hardship and persecution as believers in Jesus Christ.
This video was produced for the International Day of Prayer (IDOP) in 2010. To learn more about the International Day of Prayer, visit http://www.persecution.com/idop.

Voice of the Martyrs/IDOP - Padina's Testimony
via http://www.youtube.com/user/VoiceOfTheMartyrsUSA
From the time Padina was 4 years old, she followed every rule of Islam in an attempt to grow closer to Allah. But Padina could never reach Allah. "I never felt peace," she said. "I would cry for hours to Allah, saying, 'I am so far from you. I can never go into your presence.'" She felt depressed and hopeless.
So she made a plan to end her suffering. She and her terminally ill mother would take pills, turn on the gas in the kitchen and enter the presence of Allah as honored Muslims.
As Padina started to turn on the gas, she heard her mother's TV in the living room. The words of a pastor on an illegal Christian satellite program grabbed her attention: "Why do you want to kill yourself tonight? Our God is so powerful that he can change your life. Give Jesus one week!"
Repulsed, Padina came up with a plan. "I will pretend to invite Jesus for one week in my life," Padina thought. "I can embarrass Jesus and embarrass Christianity for the false religion that it is. In one week, I will call this television program and kill myself live on the program. That will disgrace the God of the infidels."
The song featured at the end of this presentation was made specifically for this video. Plans exist to feature it on digital download services some time in the future.

Afghanistan—Bringing Bibles and Peace to Afghanistan

Matthew 20:34
So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.
A VOM radio partner continues to make inroads in Afghanistan despite intense spiritual warfare. “We never get discouraged when people swear at us,” the radio partner said. “We get discouraged when people ask for Bibles and we can’t give them one.” In response to recent violence, the radio team produced a program that focused on the peace of God and Jesus’ compassion as demonstrated in the gospels. The radio partner has frequent contact with listeners in Afghanistan through follow-up phone calls. Muslim listeners lament their nation’s appetite for violence, but they compliment the radio team as being among the few who care about Afghanistan. The radio partner said the team is “encouraged to keep sowing” God’s Word. Praise God for the advances the team has already made, and pray for their continued protection and success.

Psalm 101:4–6
A perverse heart shall depart from me;
I will not know wickedness.
Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor,
Him I will destroy;
The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart,
Him I will not endure.
My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land,
That they may dwell with me;
He who walks in a perfect way,
He shall serve me.
A pastor certified by China’s officially sanctioned Three-Self Church (TSPM) was sentenced to five days of administrative detention in September for “fraudulently harming society in the name of religion.” Since 2006, Liu Xiuying has served as a preacher in Shandong province at Chazhuang Church, a church approved by the local Three-Self Patriotic Association. In May, police and members of the Religious Affairs bureau seized Liu during a Sunday service. Liu was taken to a police station, where her interrogators slandered her religious beliefs and accused her of believing in cults and heresies. Please pray that Liu will be able to resume her pastoral work freely. Pray that Chinese officials will view Christianity as a positive influence on society and that their hearts will be won to Christ. Pray also for other pastors who have been arrested, whose identities are being kept confidential.

Psalm 17:8–10
Keep me as the apple of Your eye;
Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,
From the wicked who oppress me,
From my deadly enemies who surround me.
They have closed up their fat hearts;
With their mouths they speak proudly.
A 25-year-old Somali Christian refugee was beaten and left for dead by six of his Muslim countrymen on Oct. 27. Hassan’s assailants hit him with an iron rod and knifed him before stripping off his clothes and dumping him at the entrance to a Presbyterian Church of East Africa building. Hassan received Christ at age 7, and his widowed mother is a convert from Islam. Muslims in their refugee neighborhood concluded that they were Christians after the widow repeatedly turned down invitations to attend the mosque. “What happened to my son is the climax of the threats that I have been receiving from my Muslim neighbors,” she said. Hassan has eight younger siblings, and the family will have to relocate. Pray for Somali Christians like this family, who are threatened by neighbors as well as the militant al-Shabab terrorist group. Pray that Hassan will get the medical attention he needs.

Hal Lindsey Report (11-11-11): Empires Rise and Fall, "Various Places," Target: Iran? and God Deleted
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter
http://www.hallindsey.com/
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
One of the constants of history is that man seems to learn nothing from the constants of history.
Another is that nothing lasts forever. In fact, when viewed against the backdrop of mankind's time on earth, most things don't last very long. Especially empires. A couple of centuries, maybe three or four, is about as long as a dominant political system or culture can make it.
The more diverse and 'multicultural' (albeit a modern term) it is, the more tenuous and uncertain its lifespan.
Nowadays, we don't really think in terms of empires. The 20th century saw the demise of both the Ottoman and British "Empires." Things move too fast and the world is too interconnected and interdependent for an empire to have time to take root.
That's why it should come as no surprise that the 'empire' foretold in Bible prophecy for these last days may blossom faster and be more fluid in structure than those of the past. I'm referring to the predicted revival of the Roman Empire that Daniel described when interpreting the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar. He said that the final dominant system would rise out of the ruins of the old Roman Empire and that the Antichrist will rise out of that people and culture.
Now, most of you know that I have long held that that final empire will be some form of a European confederation of which Rome will be the center. This week, I'm going to explain further why I believe this and look at how unbelievably accurate Daniel's prediction is turning out to be.
I'm referring to his portrayal of that empire as "ten toes of iron mixed with clay," thus making it partly strong and partly weak. We need look no further than today's European Union. With more than 500 million people in a single market, it is, at once, the world's largest economy, yet it teeters on the verge of total economic collapse.
With Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, and now Italy facing catastrophic failure -- failure that may pull down the EU and much of the world with it -- it's very possible that the EU of today may not resemble the EU of next year. But there need not be total collapse to provide opportunity for the emergence of the Antichrist, complete economic chaos will do nicely, too.
Once again the prophets have peered across thousands of years and accurately described the events they saw unfolding in the future -- which, I believe, is our "today."
Over the years on my television programs, we've reported on earthquakes across the world -- places like Turkey, Iran, the South Pacific, the Indian Ocean, Asia, Japan, the Caribbean, and South America. Lately, though, we've been reporting on them in odd places like Missouri, Washington, D.C., and, now, Oklahoma. Though these quakes have not been as catastrophic as those in Sumatra and Japan, for instance, that literally moved land masses several feet and tilted the earth on its axis, they are notable because of Jesus Christ's prediction that in the last days we would see earthquakes in "various places." Of course, the implication here is that the earthquakes would occur in lots of different places and, probably, unusual places, at that.
Speaking of unusual places, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is now telling us that it has finally uncovered evidence of a nuclear program fully engaged in weaponization in a most unusual place: Iran. Of course, the IAEA is probably the only organization in the world that thinks Iran is an 'unusual' place for this discovery. Everyone else has known for years that it's happening. Most of the West, though, simply refused to acknowledge it.
In response to this week's IAEA report, the US is apparently going to follow its usual leadership tactic of late: leading from behind. However, rumor has it that it may have given the tacit 'green light' to Israel to go ahead and strike Iran before it's too late. This has led to great debate in Israel, not over whether to attack Iran -- most of the leadership now seems to be in agreement on that -- but, rather, whether to drop its longstanding policy of "nuclear ambiguity." That intentional veil of uncertainty has been a cornerstone element in Israel's survival strategy for decades. But their decision to remove that doubt -- if they decide to do so -- may signal the Israelis' realization that they pretty much stand alone in the world.
Finally, if you visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., you may notice something missing: God. To correct this deliberate omission, Rep. Bill Johnson of Ohio has introduced legislation to have President Franklin D. Roosevelt's D-Day Prayer, which was broadcast live to the nation on the evening of June 6, 1944, displayed at the memorial. It is not unusual for an American president to call the nation to prayer, but it is unusual for the President to personally deliver that prayer, all 6 minutes of it, broadcast live nationally.
That prayer proved to be such a unifying and uplifting moment at a truly historic turning point in the war, that Congressman Johnson felt like it was a travesty not to include it in a memorial to the sacrifices made by Americans in World War II. And he felt like it was an even greater travesty when the Obama Administration publicly objected. They claimed that the prayer's inclusion at the memorial will "dilute its message" and its ability to inspire visitors.
Congressman Johnson responded that the Administration's objection, "boggles my mind."
Well, It disgusts me, too, but it doesn't surprise me. This denial of the spiritual heritage of our nation has been going on for a long time, but it is intensifying as we approach the end of this age. Folks, it's time for the true believers in America to stand up and be counted. If we don't, the spiritual and moral precepts upon which this great nation is founded -- and their expression by our nation's leaders -- will soon be as rare as the mention of God at the World War II Memorial.
That will be a sad day, indeed.
Don't miss this week's Report on TBN, Daystar, Inspiration, CPM Network, various local stations, www.hallindsey.com or www.hischannel.com. Please check your local listings.
God Bless,
Hal Lindsey

A Marriage Carol
A Marriage Carol
"Sometimes it takes a snowstorm to melt a heart."
On Christmas Eve twenty years earlier, Marlee and Jacob were married in a snowstorm. This Christmas Eve, they are ready to quit, divorce is imminent. Their relationship is as icy as the road they’re traveling and as blocked with troubles as the piling snow. They take a shortcut to get to the lawyer’s office, on a slippery, no-fault path. She thinks they need to stay on the main road. He disagrees. They fight. Story of their lives and they slam into a bank of snow , spinning, drifting, falling, out of control. Just like their lives. Reluctantly, freezing cold, hungry, scared, she trudges up the hill. Jacob is nowhere to be found. Her ears frozen, fingers and hands red, she comes to a house on the hillside, built like a Bed and Breakfast, a green wreath on the red door and the door-knocker is in the shape of a wedding ring.
The red door opens and the first thing she notices is the fire in the room, blazing hot, a warm, inviting, friendly place and the voice of an old man welcomes her in. There are three golden pots on the hearth, shining, glimmering things. The old man claims that they are used to restore marriages. She laughs-and begins a journey through her past, present, and future that will test how she views her lifelong love. There are two futures available. Which will she choose?

A Love Language Minute: The Power of Words (Veterans Day)
via Love Language Minute E-Letter
http://www.5lovelanguages.com/
Editor's Note: On behalf Dr. Gary Chapman and all the Chapman Team here at Northfield Publishing, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all those who have served, or are currently serving, our country in the military. Thank you for your service and sacrifice! In light of Veterans Day, we would like to share with you an excerpt of an article Dr. Chapman wrote for Military Spouse Magazine several years ago. Enjoy.
"Don't underestimate the power of words!"
That's what my mother told me when my dad was deployed in World War II. For them, it was true because she wrote Dad a letter every day. And he wrote her every time he had a free minute. The letters may have been a month late, but they brought news from home. And they expressed love. Mom and Dad stayed connected though separated by the miles and months.
In today's world, with computers and wireless phones, staying connected is easier than ever. Staying connected while apart is the best way to make re-entry sweet. If you are disconnected during deployment, it takes time to re-establish intimacy. If one of you has violated trust by being unfaithful, it takes genuine confession and forgiveness; then it follows the often slow process of rebuilding trust.
For the average couple who stays somewhat connected while deployed and remain true to each other, re-entry can be heavenly; with perhaps a few hellish moments. Whatever problems you had before deployment did not go away while you were apart. You must start, not where you left off, but where you are now. That means, taking time to talk and listen. It means sharing what has happened while the two of you have been apart. Obviously, there is not time to relive all the experiences, but if you are to reconnect, you must share some of what has transpired.
Don't underestimate the power of words. They can make or break a relationship. Such statements as, "I missed you. I'm proud of you. You look great; I am glad you are home," communicate love to the one who has been deployed. While "You did a such a good job with the things while I was away. I'm so lucky to have you as a husband/wife. You look fabulous. I am so glad to be home again," communicate encouragement to the one who stated at home. No matter what has happened, beginning with positive words creates a climate for reconstruction.
This does not mean that you cannot voice your concerns, but even this need to be done in a positive way. "I know I may be misreading this. There are probably some things I don't know. But I felt concerned when...." This kind of statement is not condemning, but seeks information to clarify the situation. You can process your differences so long as you do not condemn each other. When you condemn and harshly criticize, you may create a war that is more volatile than the one from which you have returned.
The motif of a good marriage is mutual support and encouragement. Questions like, "What could I do to help you? How can I make your life easier? How could I best show my love to you?" express an attitude of helpfulness and will likely be well received by your spouse. Reaching out to help each other, you become partners in life, which is what marriage is all about.
The greatest detriment to such positive partnership is selfishness. Perhaps both of you feel that you have gone through a difficult period of life and you deserve a little pampering. However, when you focus on yourselves and start demanding things of each other, you become enemies. When you freely and genuinely reach out with the attitude of helping your spouse, you both become winners. Successful re-entry occurs when both partners seek the well being of the other.
Marsha, the wife of an enlisted man captured it all when she said "After all he had been through, I could not believe it when he came home and said, 'It was a hard deployment. But I'm home now and I'm here to serve you.' Of course, I wanted to serve him. What wife wouldn't respond positively to a husband who has that attitude?"

Phillips, Craig, and Dean - Revelation Song
I really like this song. Heard they have a new Christmas EP out. http://www.phillipscraiganddean.com/
How Far Should 'Freedom' Go?
How far should we, as Christians, go when it comes to wiping out immorality and protecting the sanctity of the Christian faith in society? What I mean is should we respect freedom of choice and expression as much as possible, even to the extent of allowing those who are hateful towards God and Christians to speak and express themselves as they choose? For example, a man makes a film that includes a brief scene of ants crawling over a crucified Jesus (story link here); OR should we be as pro-active as possible to prevent things that are offensive to us from occurring and try to, basically, wipe them out because they are so ungodly, offensive, mocking, disrespectful to the Christian faith?
I believe in protecting freedom of speech, choice and expression as much as possible. I believe in doing this because God does the same for us when He gives us those very same freedoms. We choose to live for God. We are not forced to because that is how He wills is. We are people with free will, not robots.
But, at the same time, I feel conflicted about it. Here is an example (story link here): I feel that hanging up a painting of the Virgin Mary with elephant dung being plastered over it on purpose in a city museum in the name of 'art' is so offensive and disrespectful. It is never 'good' to do that, morally. It's one thing to hang up a painting like that in someone's home vs. a city's museum. I guess this would be a matter of private vs. public.
Should we as Christians respect a person's freedom of speech, choice, expression, religion, etc. to the point that we allow someone to do something like that despite how abhorred we are by it? They are not doing anything illegal nor are they physically hurting anyone by doing so. They are probably hurting someone morally I would imagine though. But, in a civilized society, we do not criminalize people based on morality, as long as physical violence and stealing are not involved.
So, my question is should we as Christians be focused on spreading God's love and truth in evangelizing and teaching others, as opposed to wiping out immorality in society by protesting and sending petitions? Or, should we do both at the same time? Or, does it depend on the situation?

Living Waters: On the Box Ep #217 (11-10-2011)
"On the Box" is a daily (Monday through Friday) live, 28-minute, web-based talk show hosted by Ray Comfort and the Living Waters team. Episode #217. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/on-the-box
Ray Comfort and Tony Miano discuss the "180" movie. Then, starting at about 12:16 in the video, Stuart Scott shows a recording of him viewing and narrating Google Earth images that show places in the Book of the Exodus that the Israelites went through. Very fascinating. Next, Ray and Tony talk about the importance of evangelizing or spreading our faith. Then, Ray and Tony answer someone's question about how to handle being around someone who is always taking Jesus' name in vain.

Temple Levels
In reference to the post below: "The More Important Thing," http://jesusislordforever.blogspot.com/2011/11/more-important-thing.html .
The article discusses the idea that we, as believers, can become so focused on doing God's work that we forget to spend some quiet time with God, simply being in His presence and able to be touched by Him more intimately. I don't know if this is relevant, but when I read those words I automatically began thinking about how this article takes the "God's Work/More Intimate Time with God" route, but it can also take the "God's Work/Secular Activities" route because the methodology is the same. In the same way that the article expressed, if a believer spends so much time doing secular activities (not necessarily referring to sinfulness, but activities that are not specifically God-focused, such as work and school) to the point that they cannot spend very much time thinking about God or doing God's work then we as believers can feel malnourished. I then began thinking about God's Tabernacle/Temple. There is the Outer Court, Inner Court (Holy Place) and the Most Holy Place (Holy of Holies). This can also be referred to as the Outer Level, Middle Level and Innermost Level. It seems to me that the article I am referencing and the idea that I expressed continuing the idea can be equivolated to God's Temple.
Using the idea of the article, the Outer Court/Level would be represented by secular/worldly activities, the Inner Court/Middle Level (Holy Place) would be represented by doing GOD's Work and the Innermost Court/Most Holy Place (Holy of Holies) would be represented by intimacy with GOD.
1 John 2:15-16 (MSG): Don't love the world's ways. Don't love the world's goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from Him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity."
Praise Him! God bless.
