God and The Apple Pie: The Importance of Choice
via Streams Ministries
by John Paul Jackson
Each year as January 1 approaches, many of us begin to think about making New Year’s resolutions. This year, as you contemplate potential changes in your life, remember that the choices you make today are important; they are uniquely powerful because God wrote your capability of making choices into your destiny.
We have the option of following Him, obeying Him and walking in wisdom; He instilled within us the ability to gather knowledge, assimilate it and then make the best decision we can based on our understanding.
This means that we are the architects of destiny. God is not the “architect” as much as He is the Creator of the spiritual and natural laws of the universe. In the midst of these laws, we devise our plans and draw up the architectural designs for our lives.
An example of a spiritual law would be that of sowing and reaping. No matter what type of seed we use, we will reap what we sow. If we sow discontent, we will reap discontent. If we sow faithfulness, we will reap faithfulness. An example of a natural law would be that of gravity or even glass — we discover right away that glass makes great windows but very poor load-bearing beams. These are laws, or “rules,” of the spiritual and natural realms.

We Design Our Plans Within God’s Confines
God gives us our callings, and we start planning for the future within His laws. However, Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” So all the while, we think we are putting together these grand architectural designs for our lives, but we are actually doing so in coordination with God as He helps us work through the laws and various steps of what He has called us to do.
Quite often, our choices are more important than we realize. God doesn’t command us to do what He has called us to do. He does not lay our destiny out before us and declare, “You will do this!” Instead, He looks for us to interact with Him in our process of walking it out.
He wants us to choose to seek His input — but we do not have to seek His input. The choice is up to us, because we are the architects.
I don’t know about you, but I have been guilty of designing my own plans, and they weren’t what God wanted me to do. Sometimes, God allows us to make a wrong choice; He lets us try to build something for Him that He does not want. This is like baking an apple pie for a friend who does not like apple pie. It could be the best apple pie in the world, but the friend will still say, “I don’t like apple pie.”
“But this is the best apple pie!”
“But I don’t like apple pie.”
The great thing is that if we have a heart for God, we will recognize that our choice was wrong, repent for it and then apply ourselves to what He has actually called us to do. For a season, I thought I was supposed to be in the business world. Even though I was successful, God let me know very, very clearly that business was not what I was called to do.
The Choice Is Up to You
The architect designs what the owner wants. If the owner wants a shopping mall, we design a shopping mall. If the owner wants an amazing high-rise building, we design an amazing high-rise building.
The owner tells the architect what he or she wants, and that person becomes the designer of that desire. Obviously, if we are walking with God, He has a lot to do with that design, but many, if not most, of the choices along the way remain in our hands.
Do Not Be Afraid of Mistakes
You, as an architect, employ everything you have (all of your skill, your knowledge of God’s Word and His ways, your discipline, your wisdom, etc.) to design the building God has called you to build: the destiny that God purposed you for. He created the spiritual and natural laws of the universe, put a destiny within you and then told you, “Now I am going to give you choices in this. You can get to do this.”
What has God told you to do? What architectural design waits on your table? In the process, don’t be afraid of making a mistake. The “owner” of this building project has an incredible love for you, and He is stronger than you are — He is fully able to keep you from falling (Jude 1:24). So keep your eyes on Him. Watch Him and see what He is doing. Then make your choices and step forward, holding firmly to His hand.

Does science show us what happened in the past?
by Dr. Andrew Snelling, AiG–U.S.
December 30, 2011
In our three-article series on radiometric dating, we discuss in depth the assumptions that scientists must make. For example, it has to be assumed that all the daughter isotopes found in rocks today have been derived by radioactive decay of the parent isotopes. It also has to be assumed that the rate of decay of the parent isotopes in the past has occurred constantly at the same rates measured today. There is absolutely no way any scientist can know whether these two assumptions are correct, because the evidence only exists today in the present, and we can’t go back to test the past millions of years and check that the rates of radioactive decay were the same then as they are now. Thus science is not the “window to the past”! This notion is based on a complete misunderstanding of the nature of evidence. What we observe and measure today exists in the present. We can repeat our observations tomorrow, but we can’t go back to last week to repeat them. The only way we know our observations were the same last week as they are today is if we have an eyewitness testimony from someone who made the same observations last week. In the Bible, we have the eyewitness testimony of someone who has been present throughout all of history and who has told us what happened. And what we read in the Bible is confirmed by the observations we make in the world around us.

Voice of the Martyrs Prayer Update for week of Dec. 30, 2011
The Voice of the Martyrs USA: www.persecution.com
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High / Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. / I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; / My God, in Him I will trust.” Psalm 91:1–2
Laos—Christians Arrested During Christmas Service

2 Corinthians 13:14
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
Seven Christian leaders remain in prison after authorities raided their Christmas gathering in Boukham village, Laos. Under orders from the village chief, authorities raided the home where the Christians were celebrating Christmas on Friday, Dec. 16. They arrested eight Christian leaders and took them to the village government house. Authorities accused the Christians of violating village law by holding a Christian service that offended the village’s traditional spirit religion. A representative of the Savannakhet Lao Evangelical Church (LEC), which is recognized by the government, attempted unsuccessfully to obtain the Christians’ release the day after their arrest. The LEC deputy chairman paid 1 million kip ($125, or about three months’ pay) for the release of Kingnamosorn, one of the imprisoned believers. The remaining seven were asked to admit guilt. When they refused, authorities placed their feet in stocks. “Their situation will likely get worse unless we have God’s intervention,” wrote a VOM contact. In 2008, three Christians were imprisoned for three months in Boukham village and were threatened with life imprisonment if they did not recant their Christian faith. Pray that the seven prisoners will be released and will have sweet communion with God while in prison.

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
A pastor who was arrested and imprisoned in October on false charges of forced conversion in the Kashmir Valley has been released from jail on bail. A Muslim cleric, the Grand Mufti, had asked Reverend C. M. Khanna to help a student gain admission to a school run by the Church of North India. When Rev. Khanna was unable to help, it is believed that the Grand Mufti retaliated by having him summoned to appear before the Sharia court. He was charged with forced conversion based on video of a routine baptism ceremony in his church. Rev. Khanna voluntarily appeared before the Sharia court in the Kashmir Valley, even though he could not be legally bound to appear before a Muslim court in a secular country like India. Rev. Khanna’s arrest has caused great fear among believers, according to local sources. Please pray that Rev. Khanna’s courage and faith during his ordeal will be a testimony to others.

Isaiah 9:7
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
The five men accused of killing three Christians in Malatya, Turkey, could be freed if they are not convicted by April 2012. Under Turkish law, those accused of a crime must be set free if they are not convicted and sentenced within five years. The trial for the men accused of killing Necati Aydin, Ugur Yuksel and Tilmann Geske began in November 2007 and has been mired in complications ever since. The next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2012, and delays beyond April 2012 could lead to the release of the five men. Pray that friends and families of the Malatya victims will know the peace of Jesus and that justice will be done.

Voice of the Martyrs Prayer Update for week of Dec. 23, 2011
VOM-USA Prayer Update for December 23, 2011
The Voice of the Martyrs USA: www.persecution.com
So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. South Sudan—Attacks Continue in Border Region
Source: VOM Field Reports
Psalm 20:1
May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble;
May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
Sudan and South Sudan appear to be on the brink of war as security in the border region continues to deteriorate. Sudan continues to attack and bomb areas along the border, including areas inside the new sovereign nation of South Sudan. The border region is home to vast natural resources as well as majority-Christian ethnic groups. “We are following this situation very closely as we plan projects and outreaches to respond to the crisis and encourage the persecuted church in the Nuba Mountain region,” wrote a VOM field worker. In early December, Christian aid organizations serving refugee communities along the border were forced to evacuate their field workers because of intense aerial bombing and shelling by Sudan. Members of AIM Air, who transport aid to the refugee communities, said the biggest obstacles affecting relief efforts are the bombing, shelling and fighting in Jau and Yidra, communities inside South Sudan. These regions are home to the largest Christian community in South Sudan and Sudan. More than 300,000 people have been displaced by the conflict, which began on June 6, 2011. Please pray that God will continue to sustain his people there.
Yemen—Kidnapped Aid Workers Still Missing

Psalm 38:15
For in You, O LORD, I hope;
You will hear, O Lord my God.
Four of nine foreigners kidnapped in Saada, northwest Yemen, are still missing two and a half years after their abduction. Among the nine were a German doctor, his wife and their three children; a British man and his South Korean wife; and two German women. The six adults had been working as aid workers in a hospital in Saada. Three of the women were found dead shortly after their abduction, and two of the children were freed on May 17, 2010. The welfare and whereabouts of the German couple, Johannes and Sabine, their 3-year-old son, Simon, and the British man, Tony, are unknown. Those close to the situation are hopeful that the transfer of power from President Saleh to the vice president and the formation of a unity government will lead to a release of information about the missing foreigners. However, the political situation in Yemen has not improved, and protests and violent clashes continue. Pray that the missing four are still alive and that information on their welfare might be released. Pray for their families, especially for Johannes and Sabine’s 5-year-old and 7-year-old daughters, who are with relatives in Germany.
Syria—Christians Prepare for Christmas amid Lockdown

Luke 2:10
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
As Christians around the world prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth, Christians in the Syrian city of Homs are afraid to leave their homes. “Troops are surrounding the city, and people don’t go out of their houses, as they will get shot,” said a VOM-supported evangelist. Another VOM contact who lives in the city said, “Everyone is afraid of huge massacres and ethnic violence. There has been no electricity for a week and no fuel for heating. No one goes out because he will die. Really, it’s a terrible situation. Anyway, we trust that Emmanuel is still with us. Please pray for the peace of Christ to enter the hearts of the people in Homs.”

PrisonerAlert Update: Youcef Nadarkhani
via prisoneralert.com
Nardarkhani to Remain in Prison
Youcef Nadarkhani, an Iranian pastor sentenced to death for apostasy, will remain in prison for at least one more year. The presiding judge ordered authorities to keep Youcef in prison, using whatever means necessary to force him to recant his Christian faith and convert to Islam. VOM contacts believe the order’s intent is to keep Youcef in prison for an extended period so that the international Christian community will forget about him. The Iranian courts may then feel free to carry out the death sentence.
Backstory:
Youcef Nadarkhani, a 34-year-old pastor from Rasht, about 750 miles northwest of Tehran, was arrested in October 2009 after he protested a government policy that required children, including his 8- and 9-year-old sons, to study the Quran in school. Youcef told school officials that the Iranian constitution allows for freedom of religious practice. As a result of his protest, secret police called him before a political tribunal and arrested him for protesting. The charges were later amended to apostasy and evangelism of Muslims. Youcef was tried on Sept. 21–22, 2010 by the 1st Court of the Revolutionary Tribunal and sentenced to death on Nov. 13 for apostasy.
The pastor is imprisoned in Lakan prison, where authorities have used various methods, including medication, to convert him back to Islam.
After Youcef refused to convert to Islam, his wife was arrested, put on trial without an attorney and sentenced to life in prison. She was later released after an attorney appealed her sentence. The Nadarkhanis’ children were cared for by a relative while they were both in prison.

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “ Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:8–14

nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed. For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.”
A regime change in Syria would almost certainly have negative effects on Christians, according to observers of the country’s political situation. The Syrian uprising is “not about ‘democracy’ as the West knows it,” wrote Elisabeth Kendal in the Religious Liberty Prayer Bulletin. “It is about restoring [Sunni Muslim domination], Arab hegemony and the Islamic order to Syria.” During the uprising, Syrian Christians have been forced from their homes and Christian businesses burned. Protestors at one event reportedly chanted, “The Alawites to the grave and the Christians to Beirut.” While VOM-supported evangelists have long faced harassment and other difficulties while sharing the gospel, many fear that a change in Syria’s leadership could raise anti-Christian persecution to levels seen in Iran. Please pray for the protection and perseverance of God’s children in Syria.

Exodus 18:7–9
So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, bowed down, and kissed him. And they asked each other about their well-being, and they went into the tent. And Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardship that had come upon them on the way, and how the LORD had delivered them. Then Jethro rejoiced for all the good which the LORD had done for Israel, whom He had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
Authorities in Angren, Uzbekistan, warned local churches in November to cease proselytism and missionary activities and to stop allowing children to participate in worship meetings. The deputy head of the administration delivered the warning to representatives of the Catholic, Russian Orthodox, Presbyterian, Seventh-Day Adventist and Baptist churches on Nov. 2. In addition to being warned about evangelistic work, the church representatives were asked for lists of their churches’ members. Area Christians said they will continue to teach their children about their faith. Pray for Christians in Uzbekistan, who face intense pressure from the government.

Psalm 149:6–9
Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,
And a two-edged sword in their hand,
To execute vengeance on the nations,
And punishments on the peoples;
To bind their kings with chains,
And their nobles with fetters of iron;
To execute on them the written judgment—
This honor have all His saints.

Burmese government troops killed civilians, burned houses and arrested a Christian couple in the Christian-majority Kachin state recently. On Wednesday, Nov. 30, one woman was killed and six other villagers injured as soldiers fired four rounds of mortar shells toward civilians in the Tarlawgyi area. Government troops also burned down 10 homes in Nam Wai village and five more in neighboring Hpa Ke village. The attacks followed two explosions that occurred the previous night in the state’s capital, Myitkyina, in which one student died and another was injured. Local residents suspect that government agents planted the bombs. Two weeks earlier, on Nov. 13, a powerful explosion killed seven children and three displaced people and injured 16 other children at an orphanage in Myitkyina. Police arrested the Christian couple who run the orphanage in connection with the bombing, even though two of their sons and a grandson were among those killed. The attacks have left civilians in Kachin terrified. An estimated 90 percent of Kachin citizens are Christian. Pray that the government will respond to the needs of Christians in Burma.

Hal Lindsey Report (12-23-11): Merry Christmas, the Mystery of the Magi
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
Each year, I receive many requests to examine the story of those mysterious 'wise men' who traveled so far to worship the new 'King of the Jews.' Who were they? How did they know to watch for a sign in the heavens? How long did they wait for that sign? Where did they come from? (Hint: it's a land that's in the news today.) Why did gentiles come to worship the King of the Jews? How did God use them to preserve the Messiah's life? You'll learn the answers to all of these questions and more this week when I discuss "The Mystery of the Magi."
I pray that God will bless you for your faithful support of Hal Lindsey Media Ministries during 2011. 2012 promises to be even more exciting as the coming of our Savior and Lord draws near. It has caught the attention of Hollywood and the world. Speculation is rampant about the Mayan calendar and other secular prophecies predicting a major world catastrophe in 2012. Please continue to pray for America as she faces some of her darkest days and maybe the most critical election in our nation's history. Also, please continue to believe for God's blessing and provision for "The Hal Lindsey Report."
Don't lose hope. God is still in control and Christmas is a beautiful reminder of His great love for us.
Have a wonderful, blessed, and very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hal Lindsey Report (12-16-11): Snatched!, Sold!, Back to the Bible, Messiah's Unique Person
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
Last week, the Pentagon announced that one of its high-tech, high-value stealth unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) had disappeared in Afghanistan on December 4. The presumption was that it had crashed.
However, a few days later, the RQ-170 Sentinel drone showed up intact - on Iranian television.
The Iranians said they had snatched control of the UAV away from its American pilot (probably operating the craft from a facility in Nevada) and safely landed it in Iran. Observers are debating that assertion. Some think it crashed in Afghanistan and was recovered and transported to Iran by the Taliban. Others say that Russia and/or China gave Iran the technology to seize control of the aircraft.
The bottom line, though, is that the Iranians now have our most valuable stealth technology, and we have only their word for how they got it.
President Obama asked Iran to return the drone. Not surprisingly, the Iranians refused. The White House decided not to try to recover it or destroy it for fear of escalating tensions with Iran. Apparently the President prefers a more relaxed relationship even if Iran knows our secrets!
But not just Iran. Already, teams of experts from Russia and China are in Iran taking a look at the UAV. They're drooling to get their hands on the technology. That puts the Iranians in the driver's seat. They've already let it be known that the drone is available to the highest bidder, but the starting bid needs to include advanced uranium enrichment centrifuges, solid-fuel missile technology, and the Russian S-300 anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense system.
Meanwhile, with Iran on the verge of securing the latest in weapons technology, Israel's leaders may be turning back to the basics. This week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he was re-establishing a weekly Bible study at the Prime Minister's official residence.
I say "re-establishing" because Mr. Netanyahu explained that he intended to follow in the footsteps of former Prime Ministers David Ben-Gurion and Menachem Begin. They also conducted weekly studies of the Old Testament during their tenures. Netanyahu said that he wanted to promote a love of the Scriptures among government leaders and, through them, the rest of Israel.
It's interesting to note that some of Israel's most influential leaders were great students of the ancient prophets and their predictions, Ben-Gurion and Begin included. It is also said that Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, though a Muslim, was a student of the Bible. I sometimes wonder if the courage shown by both Sadat and Begin to sign a peace treaty that has endured for more than three decades may have been, in some way, a result of their knowledge and appreciation of the ancient prophecies.
Finally, I am continuing my series of Christmas meditations. This week, I'll discuss the most unique person in all of history -- in fact, the most unique person in the universe: Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah. Find out exactly what makes Him so.

Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:4–7

MacArthur Arbado, an elder at the Bible Baptist Church in Carmen, Cotabato, was murdered on Nov. 10, 2011, as he returned to his farm. The attackers shot him in the leg, back and abdomen before decapitating him with his own machete. MacArthur leaves behind his wife, Lolita, and 13 children. Although his farm was surrounded by land owned by Muslims, he had a good relationship with his neighbors. He learned to speak their language and was called “uncle” by many. Often his Muslim friends tried to convert him to Islam, but he stood firm in his faith and talked with them about Christianity. MacArthur’s killers are thought to be members of a separatist Muslim group in the area. VOM has met with MacArthur’s family and provided some assistance. Please pray for Lolita, her children and the church.

Romans 8:15
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
Buddhists in Nepal expelled a pastor and other believers from their village last week and sexually abused a 6-year-old girl. The Buddhists accused the pastor of bringing a foreign religion to the village and of promoting teachings against society. They also accused Christians in the village of converting others by force and enticing villagers to convert by offering them money. A VOM worker helped resettle the families in another village and connected them with a local church. He also prayed with the family of the girl who was abused. In a separate incident last week, police discovered a crude bomb in front of a Christian organization’s office in Kathmandu. The bomb did not detonate and no one was harmed. A pamphlet left by the bombers (allegedly members of the Nepal Defense Army) stated that Nepal should be a Hindu kingdom and that all Christian activities should stop. Area Christians are understandably nervous. Pray that they will trust God in this situation.

Three Iranian pastors have been called to report to prison in Shiraz within the next 30 days. Pastor Parviz Khalaj was convicted of committing crimes against the order and sentenced to two years in prison. He has a wife and a 10-year-old son. Pastor William Belyad was also convicted of crimes against the order and was sentenced to five years in prison. William is also married and has a 1-month-old son. William’s wife, Nazly, was arrested with him but has not been called to serve a sentence yet. Pastor Behrouz Sadegh Khandjani was sentenced to one year in prison on the same conviction. He and his wife have a 7-year-old daughter. A fourth leader, Mehdi Foroutan, was arrested at the same time and has already reported to prison. Pray that these brothers will remain faithful and that they may be released from prison early. Thank God that William’s wife, Nazly, has not been called to serve jail time.

Hal Lindsey Report (12-09-11): The Enemy Among Us?, War by Appointment, Who is the Son of God?
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
Do you remember how I've often told you that the march toward the rise of the Antichrist will mostly be slow, but inexorable? Remember, too, how I've said that each new development that paves the way in the end times scenario will seem imminently logical, rational, even necessary at the moment? In other words, conditions on the ground will make the decisions taken almost irresistible.
A recent example of this is the economic chaos currently enveloping our world. As nation after nation faces fiscal collapse, the calls for a centralized system to control the chaos are growing. For many -- even some of the smartest among us -- a single world authority to control the interlocked global economy seems to be the only solution. Now, the ancient prophets didn't specify exactly why otherwise sensible and intelligent people would accept the total authority of a single man in the last days, they just said that they would. Well, now we can begin to clearly see how that could happen. And when it does, it will be thought to be totally logical, rational, even necessary.
Another example of this inexorable move toward the control of the populace that will be necessary to implement a one-world government occurred right here in the United States just last week. When all is said and done, it may not stand as law, but just the fact that it happened is important.
The U.S. Senate last week passed S.1867 by a vote of 93-7. That bill, known as The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, authorizes the budget authority of the Defense Department for 2012. Whether or not you agree with the fiscal make-up or future implications of that budget, here's the critical part. At the last moment, an amendment, drafted in secret by Senators Carl Levin and John McCain, was added to the bill. That amendment authorizes the use of the US military to arrest and detain people -- including American citizens -- suspected of terrorist activities. Here's where it gets alarming. For the first time, it authorizes the use of US armed forces for domestic law enforcement within the United States! Further, it allows the military to hold detainees in military facilities for indefinite periods, without charges, and without due process.
It's possible that the reasoning followed this line: One of the greatest weapons that Islamic terrorists -- especially homegrown or newly radicalized ones -- use against the United States is America's tradition of domestic liberty and freedom of movement and association. Now before you fist pump and yell, "Atta boy! Arrest those terrorists wherever you find them!", consider this: Who determines who's a "terrorist?" In this amendment, apparently the White House gets to make that call.
Uh-oh. If you take just a quick look at the Department of Homeland Security's list of potential terrorists, you'll find Christian extremists, Jewish extremists, anti-immigration extremists, anti-abortion extremists, tax resisters, members of the alternative media, gun owners, former members of the military, and people who stockpile gold or silver. I don't think the "Tea Party" is listed, but it someday might be. Just this week in England, for instance, the government designated some members of the "Occupy London" movement as domestic terrorists.
Hopefully, the media exposure and public outcry will get this provision removed from the final bill, but it nonetheless illustrates how easily these kinds of repressive measures can be implemented. It must have seemed "logical, rational, even necessary" since 93 of our 100 senators voted in favor of it.
The Middle East seems to be headed for war. Here's a brief look at recent developments: The latest statements by the leaders of Israel, Syria, Iran, and Hezbollah suggest that both sides are not just poised for war in the next few weeks, it's a forgone conclusion. Both Israel and Syria are conducting intensive war games exercises. Israel's air force is also conducting long-range training missions with NATO forces based in Italy.
The United States has moved an aircraft carrier and strike force into the Mediterranean opposite Syria. Russia responded by airlifting 72 of its lethal ship-killer missiles to Syria and dispatched its only aircraft carrier and support group to lie off the Syrian coast. The US then withdrew its carrier from the danger zone, but has apparently moved another carrier group into position off the coast of Iran.
Several international newspapers are reporting that Saudi Arabia is so concerned about the progress of Iran's nuclear weapons program that it has secretly agreed to allow Israel's air force to overfly its territory in a strike on Iran. In fact, observers say that the Saudis have actually practiced "standing down" their air defense system.
Analysts report that the United States also seems to be stepping up its expansion of military ties with the Persian Gulf states that oppose Iran.
I don't believe that what we're seeing take shape now will become the predicted "Gog-Magog" war. This means that whatever action Israel and others may take against Iran will still leave it a viable nation. The Bible says that Iran will later join a military confederacy with Russia against Israel. Also, Ezekiel says that at the time of the Gog-Magog war, Israel will be living in peace and security without feeling the need for "bars nor gates." Obviously, that does not describe Israel's situation today -- or any other day since its founding in 1948.
It's possible that if Israel strikes Iran and scores a military victory, it will experience the same post-victory response that the United States experienced after the Gulf War in 1991. Though most of the Arab world hated and feared Saddam Hussein -- and cheered when we defeated him -- the ease with which we accomplished the victory inspired both fear and jealousy. Some of those who sided with us then are our adversaries now. And since Israel already has so few friends and allies in the world, if it "defeats" Iran and suffers the same post-victory alienation, it will probably become totally isolated from the world. And that will make it an even more compelling target for its enemies -- just as the ancient prophets foretold.
Finally, this week I want to continue my short series of Christmas meditations. I'm going to address a question that seems too simple to ask, yet may be deceptively complex to quickly answer: "Who is the Son of God?"
The perspective I provide this week may help make this Christmas season even more meaningful for you and your family.

Hal Lindsey Report (12-02-11): High Alert, a Gathering Storm, Doomsday 2012?, Time to Get Ready?, The Fear is Here
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter
http://www.hallindsey.com
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
The situation in Syria continues to deteriorate. Last week, the Arab League voted to suspend Syria's membership until Bashar al-Assad either steps down or stops his government's crackdown on protesters. The United Nations estimates that more than 3,500 have died in the continuing violence.
The economic sanctions imposed by the League will be a blow to Syria's economy, which is already weakened. But the suspension is an even bigger blow to Syria's pride. It has long considered itself a bulwark of Arab nationalism.
Syria's belligerent response -- not to mention Iran's and Hezbollah's moves to strengthen their ally's position -- has caused seven of Syria's neighbors to place their armed forces on high alert.
To further heighten the tension in the region, Russia has dispatched three warships to its naval maintenance base at Tartus, Syria. Its only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, is headed for Syrian waters, too. Although Russia denies it, its naval presence in the region is widely considered a response to the fact that the United States has moved its carrier USS George H.W. Bush and part of the Sixth Fleet to lie off the Syrian coast.
Russia has already let it be known that it will not allow to happen to Bashar al-Assad what happened to Muammar Gadaffi in Libya. This, however, is not necessarily a stand Russia is taking on principle. Libya was one of Russia's prime customers for a variety of goods and services, arms included. Syria is also a major client state of the Russians. They've lost one good customer, they don't intend to lose another.
This will be the first military standoff between the two superpowers since the end of the Cold War two decades ago.
Some have asked if this might be the lead-up to the Bible's Psalm 83 war or the Gog-Magog war of Ezekiel 38 and 39. At this point, it doesn't appear to be developing as such. However, Isaiah's unfulfilled chapter 17 prophecy of the total and almost instantaneous destruction of Damascus makes any movement toward armed conflict with Syria worth watching. Especially since Syria has threatened Israel with attacks utilizing weapons of mass destruction. Israel has already made clear that if that happens, it will respond quickly and with overwhelming force. And Israel has the capability to make good on its threats. The only weapon that could cause the sudden and total destruction of Damascus -- as Isaiah predicted -- would be nuclear.
Folks, it's time to get ready for Christ's return. The utter destruction of Damascus is an important benchmark in God's "last days" scenario.
As we near the end of 2010, lots of viewers are also writing in to ask about the various and sundry 2012 doomsday predictions. Many want to know about the Mayan calendar, Planet X or Planet Nibiru, Comet Elenin, Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus, and so forth. I've addressed this subject a few times before on the program.
Opinion about the Mayan calendar is split. Some experts believe the fact that it abruptly ends in what translates to 2012 indicates that there will be a positive physical or spiritual transformation of the earth next year. Others -- especially Hollywood and the popular culture -- prefer the other theory: the world will literally, physically, and, apparently, very violently end on December 21, 2012.
The Planet X believers also promote a traumatic physical-destruction-of-the-earth theory. Planet X, or Nibiru, is supposedly four times larger than the earth and is headed on a collision or near-miss course with our globe next year. Obviously, if it collides with us, we're goners. If it passes near us, its size and gravitational pull on the earth will make us wish we were goners. Neither is a pretty picture.
(Just a marginal note for those who have never heard of Planet X. We "know" about it because a woman started a website in 1995 to reveal its existence. She "knew" about it because some alien visitors to earth had implanted a communications device in her brain so they could keep her posted about its arrival. Oddly, no reputable astronomers have been able to locate it in the universe. The ones who claim to have found it say that it's "hidden" behind other planets and will become visible as it gets closer to earth. Unbelievably, Planet X has gathered quite a following here on this planet!)
Obviously, I believe that neither will happen. That's because I believe the Bible's version of what's to come on the earth. And it does not entail the imminent destruction of the universe or the disappearance of our planet. And why do I believe the Bible's version? Because EVERYTHING predicted by God's prophets in the past has come true with amazing precision. If they've been 100% right so far, why should I believe they'll be wrong now? (See how that works? That's why I keep insisting that knowing and understanding Bible prophecy is important for the Christian -- and for the non-believer, too!)
Finally, since it's the beginning of the Christmas season, I'm going to take a few minutes for a meditation on the advent of Jesus Christ. I want to discuss an aspect of His coming into this world that many preachers often overlook or fail to emphasize. Some simply don't understand this important point. It has to do with the efficacy of Christ's sacrifice and the promise it holds for everyone who believes and receives that gift of pardon.
Fully understanding the implications of the totality and finality of His sacrifice for us may revolutionize your approach to Christmas this year.

A Wreath Observed
via A Love Language Minute e-Letter
http://www.5lovelanguages.com/
What's the best Christmas present you can give your kids this year? An iPad? An e-reader?
The other day in the car, Colin asked if we could get a bigger Christmas tree. The one we chose is puny, evidently. I think he wants more room for presents.
That caused me to think about what I really want to give them. I love giving toys, trinkets, gadgets, and giz. I love giving books and gift cards and musical instruments. I love the feeling of watching them open a present and seeing the recognition on their faces that someone knows them, sees inside their souls well enough to get that DVD or pair of woolen socks.
But the truth is, the greatest gift I can give my children can't be placed under a tree, no matter how big it is. The greatest gift I can give my family is a commitment to my marriage and the fortitude to work on that relationship no matter what.
On the cover of the book, A Marriage Carol, there is a Christmas wreath. And below that, the door knocker is in the shape of an engagement ring. These circles represent something that will last, something that has no end. The contents of the book, we hope, will encourage couples to continue the struggle, continue to fight for their marriage even if things seem bleak.
If your relationship is frosty, cold, or almost dead, all the trinkets, toys, and gadgets in the world will not make your kids happy. Their real happiness comes in the security they feel with two parents who are committed enough to each other not to quit, but to humble themselves and go to work.
If you're married, give the gift that will keep giving to your children, your friends, everyone around you, and also yourself. Give the gift of commitment.
No wrapping paper or bow needed.

Police in India’s Kashmir Valley recently detained seven Christian converts from Islam and arrested the pastor who baptized them. Police beat the Christians and asked them if they had received money for converting, according to a local Christian. The arrests occurred after police saw a video showing Pastor Chander Khanna baptizing the converts at his church. Kashmir’s grand mufti, the highest religious legal official, accused the church of offering money to young Muslims in exchange for their conversion to Christianity. The mufti said the video provided definitive evidence that the converted Muslims were “lured” to Christianity. However, Pastor Khanna said the seven arrested Christians told police they would sign affidavits saying they willingly converted without duress or allurement. Please pray for the few hundred Christians in this part of India, where tensions remain high between Christians and Muslims.

Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me;
O LORD, make haste to help me!
A Christian man was shot to death in Karachi on Nov. 16 in an attack the man’s family believes was related to his Christian faith. Jameel Saawan and a friend were opening the door of their cosmetics shop in a commercial district when Saawan was shot in the neck and face by an unidentified young man. “We firmly believe that my father was killed because of his preaching of the Bible, because there is no other reason,” said Zahid Jameel, Saawan’s 25-year-old son. Despite frequent, serious threats, Saawan had shared the gospel every day after work and talked of setting up an organization to help poor Christians. No witnesses volunteered information about the murder, and it is unlikely that Saawan’s killer will be caught. Although police registered the case, they have made no progress in the investigation. Saawan’s family is reluctant to pursue the case, fearing for their own safety. Please pray for Saawan’s grieving family and for all Pakistani Christians.

On Nov. 13, a gang of men attacked members of the Agape Baptist Church during a meeting at an evangelist’s house near Hanoi. More than a dozen church leaders were seriously injured, including a pastor who remained unconscious for hours. A large crowd gathered to watch, and gang members reportedly ran outside during the attack and screamed, “The Christian pastors are savagely beating up people!” The Christians, who belong to an unregistered house church network with about 2,200 members, were punched in the face, chest and back, and some were kicked as they lay on the floor. The evangelist who owned the home suffered a broken pelvis and internal injuries. Local doctors refused to treat the believers, who were later evacuated to a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

Hal Lindsey Report (11-25-11): Corrupted Riches, the Power of Praise
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
A couple of weeks ago, a viewer wrote to me and asked if James 5:1-8 had any prophetic significance. To be candid, I had never carefully studied the passage in that light before. I was surprised to discover that its message really does apply to these times.
To give you just a glimpse of what the Apostle James had to say, he begins, "Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted.... Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you.... You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed, the wages of the laborers who have mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of [Hosts]." And James says even more, much of it condemning of a certain kind of "rich person" or system, the kind who come from a long line of those who became wealthy by defrauding the laborers of their wages.
Now, it's important to make a distinction. The Bible does not condemn everyone who is rich. It's not a sin to have money. It's a sin for money to have you. The Bible teaches, "For the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil...."
But it appears that the Apostle James predicts that in the last days there will be some extremely rich people who gained their wealth by defrauding the vast majority of those who do the labor for the economy. Yet the Lord will cause their wealth to become a snare to them, because the world's economy will collapse around everyone, both the rich and the poor. And, apparently, the greed of the rich will cause them to steal so much that the entire world economy will collapse.
No, I've not joined the "Occupy Wall Street" movement. I believe those kids (read that, the labor unions and "community organizers" who are running the show) are targeting the wrong people. I'm closer to the Tea Party because I think those people got it right. It's not Big Business doing the damage, it's Big Government. But not just the politicians. You see, in the past, the politicians did the heavy lifting for the ones that Abraham Lincoln called the "money power."
Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, and Abraham Lincoln specifically warned against letting the "money power" get its way. But Woodrow Wilson ignored those warnings and crawled into bed with these guys.
As a result, the world's economies are teetering on the verge of collapse. We are literally standing on the precipice of global economic chaos. And all because one hundred years ago we let a few shadowy -- mostly non-American -- wealthy families take control of our nation's money supply, then treasury. Since then, they have plundered America's wealth, literally stolen from its citizens, and driven us into economic bondage -- from which we cannot and will not ever emerge.
Indeed, as James says, "You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you."
But, remember, James also warned, "Your gold and silver will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire."
If you have watched this program very long, you know that I have a huge distrust of and disdain for the Federal Reserve System. As Representative Louis T. McFadden of Pennsylvania said on the floor of Congress in June, 1934, "...the truth is, the Federal Reserve Board has usurped the government of the United States.... It controls everything here.... No man, and no body of men is more entrenched in power than the arrogant credit monopoly which operates the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Reserve Banks. These evildoers have robbed the country of more than enough money to pay the national debt."
I don't believe the Apostle James was referring specifically to the Federal Reserve, or even the world's central banks, in 5:1-8, but I do believe he foresaw that in the last days a small group of ruthless, heartless, greedy, and, yes, evil people would control the economy of the world. And the only thing that can result from the work of ruthless, heartless, greedy, and evil people is heartache, despair, destruction, and chaos. Exactly the setting needed to encourage the people of the world to turn to someone -- anyone -- who has an answer and can save them from disaster. And we know who that "someone" will be: the Antichrist.
Also on this week's program: As we celebrate this Thanksgiving season, I want to share with you why I think it's more important than ever to understand the power of praise in thanksgiving to God. Our nation faces real and present dangers. Our citizenry faces challenges we've not faced in decades. As I report weekly on "The Hal Lindsey Report," the threats are mounting and the odds appear to be impossible. But it's precisely at those moments that the power of praise and gratitude to God can be our pathway to victory.

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
The leaders of First Baptist Church in Bethlehem are becoming increasingly concerned by growing antagonism against them by the Palestinian Authority. First Baptist Church has operated in Muslim-dominated Bethlehem for more than 30 years, and its leaders are no strangers to persecution. The church has been bombed fourteen times and senior pastor Naim Khoury has been shot at several times. This community opposition seems small compared to what the thriving church of 300 now faces. The ruling Palestinian Authority is trying to shut down the church by refusing to recognize it. This position has severe consequences for church members: Parents can’t obtain birth certificates for babies, couples who want to marry cannot get a license, and church members have extreme difficulty in finding employment. Currently, about 70 percent of the congregation is unemployed. A member of a delegation who recently visited the church said, “The intent is obvious: to drive people away from churches in the very city that gave birth to the hope-filled, life-changing message of Jesus Christ.” Please pray for the leaders and members of First Baptist Church.

Lamentations 3:22
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
One of China’s largest house church groups continues to meet in an outdoor space for worship, in spite a months-long campaign by police to deter them. On Nov. 13, Shouwang Church of Beijing attempted to assemble its members for worship in an outdoor shopping plaza for the 32nd time in as many weeks. The standoff began after the unregistered church was repeatedly forced from indoor meeting spaces and began meeting outdoors in protest. According to information published by the church, at least 27 people headed for the service were arrested, either at the meeting spot or en route. One was sent home, but the remaining 26 believers were taken to 12 different police stations around the city. Fifteen of the arrested were released by midnight that night, while the rest were released slowly throughout the night. The last person was released 48 hours after being arrested. As always, church members waited outside police stations with food and clothing for the detained despite freezing winter temperatures. “We especially give thanks to our God for them; they witnessed the love of being members to each other in the body of Christ. We give thanks to our Lord, for he keeps us and protects us,” church leadership wrote in a statement. Thank God for the church’s faithfulness, and pray they will be able to meet freely soon.

Sources indicate that an Iranian court may make a final ruling in the case of house church pastor Youcef Nadarkhani. Nadarkhani has spent the last 25 months imprisoned in Rasht, Iran, convicted of apostasy for leaving Islam. The standard penalty for this crime is death. A Rasht court was due to make a final decision on his case in September, but instead sent the case on to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. During his trial, the court gave Nadarkhani three opportunities to recant his faith, but he repeatedly refused. Sources close to Nadarkhani indicated that he has undergone physical and psychological torture and that authorities have continued to pressure him to recant. Pray for the upcoming verdict in his trial.

Perry Stone - Devil, Quit Messing With My Image!
This is one of the most amazing sermons/teachings I have ever heard. Perry Stone is a great man of God and always has very interesting/insightful messages. This teaching includes just that. The teaching is focused on the fact that we are made in the image of God and that is why the devil hates us, because he hates God and wants to hurt/destroy the image of God. So, there are various bondages, such as drugs and alcohol addiction, that mess with a person's image aka God's image. He starts out with some very interesting information, but the message actually gets better and better as he goes on, and speaks about some incredible stories that he has been through and his family members have been through. Once you start watching this I don't think you would want to stop. His sermons are always that interesting. I have been incredibly blessed by it. I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit after I watched this and prayed along with Perry. I don't care what some people might say. I know that it's Biblical because I believe what the Bible says, and the Bible talks about and teaches speaking in tongues (e.g.: the Church at Pentecost, Paul's letters). Believe the Word! My life has been touched forever. God bless. Praise Him! :D

The Barna Group - "U.S. Lacks Notable Christian Leaders"
November 21, 2011
A new Barna Group study illustrates that no single Christian leader captures the attention of the nation’s population. When asked to identify the single most influential Christian leader in the U.S. today, two out of every five Americans (41%) are unable to think of anyone who would meet that description.

Simple Delight
Simple Delight
November 2011
by John Paul Jackson
http://www.streamsministries.com
God has never stopped being God, and He has never stopped wanting to manifest who He is to His people.
Have you ever known someone who is a true gift giver? People who express their love by giving gifts do not give out of obligation or burden; they give out of delight because it is in their hearts to give. It is how God made them.
Part of being a gift giver is paying attention to the details. It is being aware of the little things so that you can craft a gift that will be perfect for the recipient. God takes great delight in surprising His people with His goodness. He delights in being there for us, in coming through for us. He loves to give us the good gifts of His provision and grace that reveal to us His nature and His character. He will always turn out to be more than we expect.
However, we can get so wrapped up in the “big” things of God that we forget about the “small” things of God. Yes, He rejoices in the sacrifices we make for Him and the risks we take on His behalf. But He also rejoices in the whispers of His name and in the glances sent His direction. Every time His children reach for His hand, it is important to Him. These things matter to Him, more than we realize.
I think that as we rediscover God’s simplicity, we will rediscover our hope.
Eye Has Not Seen
Where hope and expectation collide, faith is birthed. Many of us in the Church have used up our hope, and our expectation in Him has become almost non-existent. Why? Because we have been lulled to sleep. Even in the most intense times of God’s presence, many of us do not expect Him to do what He has never done before — to touch what has never been touched or to heal what has never been healed.
We are not ready for 1 Corinthians 2:9, which states, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
We know that verse is true, but it is as if we know it from a distance; we have a hard time believing it is always true, all the time, in every life.
Yet God is a giver of gifts. And many gift givers do not want to give you something you have received before. Where is the delight in that? They want to give you something new — something that will bring you a new level of delight.
Ear Has Not Heard
Our belief system has taken us to a place where we “believe” God will do something, but we do not really expect Him to do it. We need to undo that mental process and begin to approach Him again like little children. They don’t know what to expect, but they know it is going to be good.
We try to make things so complicated, and in the process, we lose the simplicity of His existence. We forget the delight of the Father’s heart. We overlook the extravagant story offered by the “small” things.
I think that as we rediscover His simplicity, we will rediscover our hope. If we knew how easy it was for His children to delight Him, we would make delighting Him a daily goal, and as a result, we would fall that much more in love with Him.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly implore His protection and favor . . . .Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the twenty-sixth day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these United States . . . that we then may all unite unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are now blessed. . . . And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discretely and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord, to promote the knowledge and practice for the true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows best. Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3rd of October, A.D. 1789. —George Washington.

Voice of the Martyrs Prayer Update for week of Nov. 18, 2011
The Voice of the Martyrs USA: www.persecution.com
“All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flowers falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever.” 1 Peter 1:24–25
India—Ten Christians Attacked and Arrested in Karnataka State

Luke 12:50–52
But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished! Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three.
Activists from a Hindu-nationalist movement attacked members of two Christian communities on Nov. 12 and 13 in Karnataka state, accusing them of forced conversions. Ten Bajrang Dal activists stormed into Pastor H. S. Nagaraj’s Sunday service on Nov. 13, interrupting prayer and tearing a Bible to pieces. When local police arrived, they arrested the pastor and three church members. The men are still in prison. On the previous day, six believers were waiting at the Belur bus station after a prayer service when activists from the same group surrounded them and began beating and insulting them. The activists then took the six Christians to the police station, where they were arrested. Three women and a child were later released, but the two men remain in prison. There have been 40 incidents of violence against Christians in Karnataka this year. Pray that our partners will be able to help these believers and that the charges will be dropped. Pray for all Christians in India who face similar circumstances, especially in the six states that have “anti-conversion” laws.
Nigeria—Two Deadly Days for Nigerian Christians
Source: Compass Direct News
John 16:33
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will[a] have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Christians in northern Nigeria have been besieged by a string of recent attacks, some by the al-Qaida-affiliated Boko Haram extremist group. In the most recent incident, on Nov. 4, extremists stormed the city of Damaturu, Yobe state. One hundred fifty people were killed in the four-hour rampage — 130 of them Christians. Ten church buildings were also destroyed in the attacks, and churches that remained in operation saw a dramatic fall in attendance. On the previous day, bomb blasts in nearby Borno state killed four people. And on the same day in Kaduna state, Muslim extremists fired on a church service, killing two Christian women. The same gang raided the Christian community of Kurmin-Bi on Nov. 4, killing one Christian and injuring another. The extremists employed guerrilla tactics, striking and withdrawing, then striking elsewhere while military personnel respond to the first attack. Pray that Christians in Nigeria will know how to lovingly engage their persecutors and that the extremists will come to know the peace of Jesus Christ.
SRI LANKA—Brutal Attack on Christian Workers
Source: Release International, National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka
Romans 16:19
For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil.
The National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) reports that a staff member and volunteer were attacked by a gang and badly injured last month in the town of Vavuniya in Northern Province. The men were driving through town on their motorbike on the evening of Oct. 19, when they were stopped by about 12 people at a junction. The gang beat them so severely with rods and clubs that a helmet worn by one of the Christian workers was shattered. One believer suffered injuries to his head and arm, while the other suffered a broken right arm and injuries to his head and body. One of the two managed to break free and alert the police, but the gang fled before police arrived. The NCEASL workers were initially taken to a hospital in Vavuniya but were later transferred to Colombo for further treatment. The motive for the attack is uncertain, and locals say this is just the latest in a string of violent attacks on citizens in Vavuniya. Pray that the two will heal quickly and be able to return to their work.

Hal Lindsey Report (11-18-11): Blast in Iran; the Boot for Syria; ...another for "Palestine.;" Open Mic, Insert Foot; On Its Own and Plan of Action
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
Speculation is flying. Was last week's mysterious explosion at an Iranian military depot near Tehran truly an accident? The blast killed 17 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including a Brigadier General.
The government said the accident occurred when soldiers were moving various munitions inside the depot. However, Western observers think they may have been attempting to mount a nuclear or chemical warhead onto a Shahab-3 missile. The Iranians immediately and specifically denied that charge. In politics, the speed and vehemence of the denial often indicates the presence of truth.
This blast eerily resembles an explosion that occurred at a Syrian facility in 2007. That accident happened when the Syrians were mounting a chemical warhead onto a SCUD missile. Many were killed, including several Iranian advisers. The area around the facility was hastily evacuated. So, too, the area around the facility in Iran.
There is also speculation that outsiders may have had something to do with the explosion. Some are even pointing the finger at Israel. Up to now, though, Iran has not accused another nation of attacking its facility outside Tehran. Of course, to do so would admit to a high degree of vulnerability -- something Iran's leaders cannot afford to do.
The Arab League has given Syria the boot -- at least until it either stops its crackdown on dissenters or gives Bashar al-Assad the boot. Since it appears unlikely to do either, the Arab League is pursuing the same strategy it utilized to topple Muammar Gaddafi in Libya.
It has given Assad a deadline for Syria to cease its brutal retaliation against the opposition demonstrators. More than 3,500 protesters have been killed by Syrian forces. If it fails to stop the crackdown, then the League will move to organize the various factions of opposition into a coherent entity like the Libyan National Transitional Council. Once that happens, the Arab League will then recognize the opposition as the legitimate voice of the Syrian people. Finally, it will help to organize an armed intervention such as the American and NATO operation in Libya.
The United States will be hard-pressed to refuse to participate in such an operation because of the "doctrine" President Obama cited last March to justify America's intervention in Libya. The "doctrine" is called "Responsibility to Protect" and is being promoted by the United Nations. Essentially, "Responsibility to Protect" postulates that a nation's sovereignty is not a right, but a privilege that can be revoked if the country is accused of war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, or ethnic cleansing.
President Obama readily bought into that concept. In a sense, that makes America the world's policeman. You know, I'm almost certain I remember Candidate Obama saying that that is exactly what America is NOT, just three years ago.
By the way, somebody else got the boot last week, too. The admissions committee for the UN Security Council told the Council that it could not make a unanimous recommendation for full membership for Palestine in the United Nations. That effectively kills the Palestinian Authority's end run around the Arab-Israeli peace process. And it also lets the United States off the hook, since it will not be forced to veto the application in the Security Council.
But that doesn't necessarily mean the PA is going to roll over and play dead. In fact, recently "Palestine" was granted full membership in UNESCO -- the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. It's odd that an organization that's supposed to be promoting science and education thought nothing of granting full membership to a 'nation' that doesn't exist. Sort of like man-made climate change, I suppose. Well, this is the UN, so maybe it does make sense!
Anyway, it was this same UNESCO vote that President Obama was chiding French President Sarkozy about after their joint press conference at the G20 summit in Cannes, France, last week. Obama wanted to know why Sarkozy didn't tell him that France was going to vote in favor of admitting the Palestinians. For the record, only 14 nations opposed UNESCO membership for the PA.
I don't know how Sarkozy replied, but I do know what he said next. In fact, the world knows, since both Obama's and Sarkozy's mics were still open after the press conference. The conversation turned to Israel and Sarkozy said: "I can't stand Netanyahu anymore. He's such a liar." To which President Obama replied, "You've had enough of him, but I have to deal with him every day!"
With friends like these....
The comments about Netanyahu have sparked more amusement than outrage worldwide. But in Israel, Obama's approval rating has dropped to 4%, the lowest of any US President in Israel's 63-year history.
It's ironic that these leaders disdain Israel and think Benjamin Netanyhu is a liar, yet they largely accept anything that Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinians say at face value. In reality, they should view with skepticism anything the PA says and accept at face value (as it were) what our strongest Middle East ally says.
But this all fits with the narrative regarding Israel that the West has contrived, which is that Israel is responsible for the Arab-Israeli conflict and that the only side interested in peace is the Palestinian side.
Even former President Bill Clinton weighed in recently with his arrogant delineation of the 'worthiness' of the Jews. He inferred that the only good Israelis are the "pro-peace Israeli-Arabs." They are followed, in order, by the Israeli-born Jews, the Ashkenazi, or European-born Jews, and, finally, the the religious Jews. He said, "The most anti-peace are the ultra-religious who believe they're supposed to keep Judea and Samaria, and the settler groups, and what you might call the territorialists, the people who just showed up lately and they're not encumbered by the historical record."
Apparently young Bill Clinton's Rhodes Scholarship didn't depend on his ability to read history. What "historical record" is he referring to that the "ultra-religious" Jews are not "encumbered by?" The one that says Kind David founded Jerusalem 3,000 years ago? The one involving Biblical Judea and Samaria? The one that includes the Balfour Declaration, the San Remo Conference, and the 1947 refusal of statehood by the Arabs when the United Nations offered them their own state? Or is he just remembering the historical record invented by Yasser Arafat and his terrorist cronies?
Of course, all of this is not lost on Prime Minister Netanyahu and his cabinet. That's why they think that if anything is done to stop Iran's mad dash to nuclear weapons, it will have to be Israel who does it alone. That's why Netanyahu recently told US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta that he won't guarantee that he'll inform Washington in advance if Israel decides to strike Iran. And that's got the Obama Administration pretty nervous.
After my plea last week for Americans, particularly Christians, to stand up and be counted in the fight for America's liberty, some of you wrote to ask me what you can do. This week, I'm going to lay out a simple "plan of action" that all of us can follow in the coming days, weeks, and months. You may think you're too old, too young, too uninformed, too tongue-tied, too poor, too rich, too pious, not pious enough, or too-whatever to make a difference. Well, you're too wrong! You CAN make a difference. And you might be surprised how easy it really is.
I pray that you have a joyous Thanksgiving. We are truly a blessed nation, aren't we? Be sure to take some time to recount those blessings with your family -- especially the young ones. It's that spirit of remembering and appreciating the past that gives us inspiration and encouragement for the future. Next week, I'll share some inspirational thoughts and prophetic perspective for the Thanksgiving season.
I thank God for you, for His blessings, and for our wonderful United States of America.
Happy Thanksgiving!
