After the tragic death of their infant daughter, Paul and Kimberley Jordan decide they want a complete life change, and Paul accepts a position with an NGO providing medical care to remote areas of Thailand.
But within days of their arrival, Paul is kidnapped and taken to a small island off the Thai coast. There, his kidnappers (defenders of a drug-running outpost) demand that he treat their leader, who has a horrible injury and infection. Back in Bangkok, Kimberley searches desperately for someone who will help her, or some clue of where Paul may be. Without hope, she turns to prayer.
While held captive, Paul meets another prisoner who is constantly quoting Scripture and praising God, despite the horrific circumstances under which he has been held for several years. Paul and the Prisoner become friends, and God's Word begins to come alive to him. Together they make a plan to escape from their captors, as the Leader looks sure to die, and without him, Paul is no longer needed.
When the day arrives, the plan goes wrong, and the Prisoner lays down his life so that Paul can escape on his own. From there, it's a chase back to civilization -- a race to return to Kimberley before the kidnappers track him down and kill him. With the Scriptures the Prisoner shared echoing in his mind, Paul realizes that his salvation is more than a physical return to civilization, but a complete surrender to God's plan for his life, whether pleasant or painful.
Paul returns to Bangkok a different person, humbled and believing. He's reunited with Kimberley, the kidnappers are tracked and caught, and Paul comforts the family of the Prisoner that sacrificed his life for Paul's freedom.

Both secular science and the Scriptures state that man was formed from dust. The big bang theory, more or less, holds that planet earth and all its life forms developed from stardust, while the biblical account states that man was formed by God from the dust of the earth, which He also created (and woman from the rib of Adam). And in yet another similarity, both worldviews state that man returns to dust. What is the difference, and why is it important?

Why are young people walking away from our churches?

During the past thirty years of traveling the world and speaking in churches, I have been deeply burdened by distraught parents pleading for advice on how to reach their children who were brought up in the church but no longer attend. “How can I reach them? How can we get them back to church?” I have been asked time and time again. As I saw such patterns across America, Australia, Europe, and the United Kingdom, I was sure there must be a connection. Could it be that the lack of teaching apologetics in our churches, youth groups, Sunday schools, and Bible studies is a major reason why young people leave the church? I talked with parents and noticed that an overwhelming number of them admitted they didn’t know how to answer their children’s questions—whether about dinosaurs, the age of the earth, or the origin of the Bible. I also found that most parents believe their children’s Christianity won’t come under attack until college. So we contracted with Britt Beemer, from America’s Research Group, to formulate questions and survey one thousand twenty-somethings (ages 20–29) who had gone to church regularly as children but no longer attend. They had to have come from a conservative church background so the results would reflect what’s happening to children from Bible-believing churches. The study found we are losing our kids in elementary, middle school, and high school rather than college. And overall, it’s because of the lack of teaching apologetics. The younger generations are not being raised to be able to answer the skeptical questions of our time, and so they begin doubting from a very early age whether they can trust the Bible.

PrisonerAlert Update: Youcef Nadarkhani
Youcef Again Pressured to Recant
VOM contacts say the chief justice in Gilan province told Youcef's lawyers last week (Jan. 16, 2012) that if Youcef repents, he will be released. Youcef told his attorneys repenting means leaving Christianity to return to Islam. He said it was impossible for him to "return" to Islam, since he was never Muslim.
Our contacts write, "Because of your prayers and concerns, the regime is afraid to issue a negative verdict, and yet they do not want to release him..."
Please continue to surround Youcef with your prayers. Pray that the chief justice will have a change of heart.
Backstory:
Youcef Nadarkhani, a 34-year-old pastor from Rasht, about 750 miles northwest of Tehran, was arrested in October 2009 after he protested a government policy that required children, including his 8- and 9-year-old sons, to study the Quran in school. Youcef told school officials that the Iranian constitution allows for freedom of religious practice. As a result of his protest, secret police called him before a political tribunal and arrested him for protesting. The charges were later amended to apostasy and evangelism of Muslims. Youcef was tried on Sept. 21–22, 2010 by the 1st Court of the Revolutionary Tribunal and sentenced to death on Nov. 13 for apostasy.
The pastor is imprisoned in Lakan prison, where authorities have used various methods, including medication, to convert him back to Islam.
After Youcef refused to convert to Islam, his wife was arrested, put on trial without an attorney and sentenced to life in prison. She was later released after an attorney appealed her sentence. The Nadarkhanis’ children were cared for by a relative while they were both in prison.

Anger: Handle with Care
by Dr. Gary Chapman
www.fivelovelanguages.com
Do find yourself over-reacting to little irritations? Your spouse forgot the milk. Your child tracked mud on the new carpet, and you explode. There is a good chance that you are suffering from stored anger. Anger that has been living inside of you for years. Your parents hurt you with harsh words or severe punishment. Your peers made fun of you as a teenager. Your boss treated you unfairly.
You've held all of these hurts inside and now your stored anger is showing up in your behavior. The Bible says, "Don't let the sun go down on your anger." In my book entitled Anger, I talk about getting rid of stored anger in more detail, but here's a few helpful insights that could help you handle this powerful emotion.
Discover the Symptoms
One of the common problems I encounter in the counseling office is people who are eaten up with anger. They have been deeply hurt by others. In an effort to be good Christians, they have held their anger inside. They didn't want to explode or be unkind, so they said nothing. Anger held inside leads to bitterness, hatred, and often depression.
Many people have no idea why they are cranky, critical, and condemning. They make life hard on others and hard on themselves. Almost always, these people are filled with anger. Everything they encounter seems wrong. They read into the present what has happened to them in the past. They were hurt by parents, siblings, and others. The hurt turned to anger and the anger to a critical attitude.
Release it to God
If you have internalized your anger for a long time, it's time to release it to God. Tell God how much you have been hurt. Then, release the person and your anger to God. He is a just and loving God. If the person repents, God will forgive. If they do not, God will punish them. When you release people to God, you put them in good hands.
Confront in Love
When we are mistreated we need to lovingly confront the person who hurt us and seek reconciliation. Don't sit around the rest of your life letting anger control your life. Make one more effort in seeking reconciliation. The first step in getting rid of anger is to make a list of all the people who have hurt you through the years and then release these people and your anger to God. Then, go to the person and tell them that you would like to 'make things right'.
Live Free
If someone is open when you lovingly confront them, they will confess their wrong and you can forgive. If they are not, then ask God if there is anything else you need to do such as 'return good for evil'. Whatever He brings to mind, do it. Then give that person and your hurt and anger to God. Pray for them, but don't allow their behavior to control your life. God wants you to be free to follow Him.

Voice of the Martyrs Prayer Update for week of February 24, 2012

Inasmuch as there is none like You, O Lord
(You are great, and Your name is great in might),
Who would not fear You, O King of the nations?
For this is Your rightful due.
For among all the wise men of the nations,
And in all their kingdoms,
There is none like You.
Conversions to Christianity have increased dramatically in Mali in recent months, due in part to the evangelistic work of Muslim Background Believers (MBBs) who have been trained at VOM-supported safe houses. “Not only are the safe houses a hiding place [for new converts running from Muslim families], but they are also places where MBBs can strengthen their faith,” a VOM worker said. “With their training … they become real national leaders who embark courageously on the evangelization of their compatriots and support the building of a true local or indigenous church.” These evangelists are the main distributors of Christian materials in the country. “That explains the explosion of conversions they are noting these days,” the VOM worker said. “The Muslim communities note now a real drop of their members.” Pray for the continued spread of the gospel in Mali and for the protection of these courageous believers.

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.
The Turkish government recently tightened its visa regulations, hindering the work of foreign missionaries in the country. The new visa policy, which became effective on Feb. 1, 2012, allows 180-day multiple-entry visas, but visitors may spend only 90 consecutive days in the country and must wait 90 days between visits. Christian workers will have to leave Turkey every three months and remain outside the country for three months before returning. “We will only be able to spend half our time in Turkey,” wrote one worker. Since the beginning of February, the Turkish government has expelled a number of missionaries who had resident permits. Others who have left the country and tried to re-enter have been turned away at the border under the new visa regulations. Please pray that the Church in Turkey will continue to grow and develop mature leaders despite increasing government restrictions.

Forty families that were evicted from their villages because of their faith recently began construction on their new homes. After a local Buddhist monk drove the families, including about 300 people, out of their homes, VOM and a partner organization helped them buy land, pay taxes and begin construction on the first five houses. The Buddhist monk took offense when the believers refused to sponsor Buddhist activities. The situation remained tense for two months, until the monk eventually expelled them from their villages. Pray that these believers will remain rooted in Jesus Christ and that their new community will be a blessing.

Voice of the Martyrs Update: Ilmurad Nurliev
Pastor Nurliew Released in Amnesty
Nearly 18 months after his August 2010 arrest, Protestant pastor Ilmurad Nurliev was among a group of about 230 prisoners freed under amnesty on Feb. 18 from a labor camp. His wife, Maya, along with other family members, met the special train carrying the amnestied prisoners at 8 p.m. "Church members have been coming to the house to celebrate my release with me," Pastor Nurliev said. "I want to thank... everyone who supported me and helped [in] my release."
Backstory
Pentecostal pastor Ilmurad Nurliev was arrested at his home in Mary in southeastern Turkmenistan on Aug. 27, 2010. He was charged with extracting money from three people. His wife, Maya, and his church members strongly deny the allegations. “All this is being done because of his faith,” said Maya. During his trial, several of the witnesses against the 45-year-old pastor were coerced into testifying.
Pastor Nurliev was sentenced to four years in prison, and his wife was forced to pay “compensation” immediately, or risk being kicked out of their home. Pastor Nurliev was also ordered to undergo “forcible medical treatment” to “wean him off his narcotic dependency,” another claim that his wife and church members reject.
In December 2010, Pastor Nurliev was transferred to Seyi Labor Camp, known for its use of psychotropic drugs on prisoners. A former prisoner in the camp described conditions “like something from the Middle Ages.”
The pastor is a diabetic, and his family is concerned about his health while he is in prison. He has no access to medical treatment.
Instead of working in the labor camp's brick kiln, the pastor is being permitted to work at his trade as a barber, serving both prisoners and camp staff. Prison authorities have denied Pastor Nurliev a Bible.

God's Persistence Makes Us Perfect
February 2012
by John Paul Jackson
http://www.streamsministries.com
Someone recently asked me if God “passes over” those who have made mistakes in the area of destiny. Have they blown it forever, or will He keep unfolding their callings until they are ready for them?
My heart is moved whenever I hear someone ask a question like that. The short answer is that the gifts and callings of God are “without repentance” (Romans 11:29), which means that He won’t take them back. This refusal to remove them is not based on how we perform with our gifts and callings; it is based on what He has chosen to do.
Philippians 1:6 tells us that He will be faithful to perfect that which He began in us. In other words, He will take us from imperfection to perfection. Messing up is an imperfection, but it does not deter His process. If we call on Him, He will get us onto the road of His purposes.
Whatever Is True
On this road to destiny, the highest mountain you will have to conquer is found in your own mind. That is why the Bible tells us to think about things that are pure, true, noble, just — good things (Philippians 4:8). As we do that, our minds will be filled with Kingdom issues. We will have Kingdom thoughts and will take Kingdom actions.
As our Kingdom thoughts become deeply embedded in our spirits, we will begin to form Kingdom habits: automatic reactions that are godly and righteous. For example, we know we are loved, and we don’t have to sit there and wonder if, this time, we have messed up beyond repair. We know we are loved now, and we will be loved tomorrow as well.
Extraordinary leaders in the Kingdom have extraordinary determination to focus on God — they choose to focus on Him no matter what their hearts say, no matter what guilt and fear say. With destiny and every other issue in life, we let His thoughts and His opinions of us become our thoughts and our opinions of ourselves. The more we do this, the easier it becomes to do it naturally.
How Should You Move Forward?
If you are struggling with worry and fear concerning your destiny, here is what I recommend. First and foremost, let God decide how and when He is going to make your destiny happen. Leave it in His hands.
Next, value your personal relationship with God above the destiny you have been called to. Value your relationship with Him more than your desire for success or public ministry.
Then anytime you are tempted to think, God will never use me again, go to Scripture and try to find an example of that. I don’t think you’ll be able to find one. God is an incredible God of second chances. Take a look at David, Jonah, Peter, Jacob and Paul. These men were far from perfect, yet God used them to change the world. He persisted with them, despite their shortcomings and even their out-and-out failures. Meditate on what God did for them because He is going to do the same thing for you.
God wants us to come to Him and rest. His yoke is “easy” and His burden is “light” (Matthew 11:30). Whenever we begin to feel weighed down by guilt or shame, we need to turn our eyes away from our shortcomings and focus on our Father instead.
"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." — James 1:2–4

New DVD Release: Apostle Peter
Apostle Peter and the Last Supper is the latest offering from Pure Flix Entertainment.
This faith-based biblical story offers hope, forgiveness, prayer and the message that anything is possible. Relive the time Peter spent with Jesus, from the Great Commission to the life-changing Last Supper and the garden of Gethsemane. Set in Rome. AD 67. Two Jailers at the ancient Mamertine Prison take custody of a famous criminal. He is Simon Peter of Galilee-apostle, disciple, and the personal friend of Jesus (Bruce Marchiano), also called The Christ. Condemned to death, the elderly Peter (Robert Loggia) recounts his life as a simple fisherman who became one of the boldest figures in all of Christianity. As Peter prepares to depart this earthly life, he will make an unforgettable impression on his jailers through the saving power of the Gospel. The production of this film is low budget because of what it tries to pull off and the pacing is slow, but there is good truth presented throughout. View The Trailer Here.

Action Alert: Help Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani; Movement on Pastor Youcef - Iranian Christian facing execution Refusing to renounce his faith in Christ may cost him his life.
by AFA (American Family Association)
February 20, 2012
February 20, 2012
Dear Friend,
Last September, we asked you to pray and ask Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to request the Iranian government stop any attempt to execute Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani and to offer asylum to him and his family.
When asked to "repent" by Iranian judges, Youcef stated, "Repent means to return. What should I return to? To the blasphemy that I had before my faith in Christ?" The judges replied, "To the religion of your ancestors, Islam." To which he replied, "I cannot."
At last report, Pastor Youcef remains in prison and is awaiting judgment by the Iranian government. Still, Pastor Youcef faces execution any day.
Last week, US Representative Joe Pitts introduced House Resolution 556, "Condemning the Government of Iran for its continued persecution, imprisonment, and sentencing of Youcef Nadarkhani on the charge of apostasy."
It is critical that you continue to pray for Pastor Youcef.
TAKE ACTION
International pressure continues to help keep Pastor Youcef alive. If a large majority of Congress supports this new bipartisan resolution, it could have a significant impact on pressuring Iran for Pastor Youcef's release.
Send an email now and encourage your representative to co-sponsor and support the resolution in support of Pastor Youcef.
Hal Lindsey Report (02-24-12): Assad's Deadly Arsenal, Then What?, No 'Second Place,' Oily Politics, the Keystone Puzzle, Missing America?
Thanks to OmniChristianVids3 for uploading the video to YouTube.
Information from the weekly programming emails sent by Hal Lindsey Media Ministries.
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
Last week, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly condemned Syria for its bloody assault on its citizens. A handful of nations, including Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela, and North Korea opposed the resolution. More than 130 nations expressed their disgust and even called on Syrian President Bashar al Assad to step down.
A General Assembly resolution is not legally binding, but it put the body on record as condemning Syria's actions. In the Security Council, though, whose decisions can carry the weight of international law, Syria's patrons, Russia and China, vetoed an attempt to impose international sanctions against Assad's regime last fall.
This week, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon criticized Syria's government and confirmed the UN's estimates that more than 5,400 people have been killed, thousands are missing, 25,000 have fled the country, and more than 70,000 have been internally displaced.
But what has many observers worried now are rumors that Assad is stockpiling chemical weapons in various parts of the country. Not long ago, Turkey intercepted several Iranian trucks headed for Syria. They were hauling components for ballistic missiles and tons of ingredients for chemical weapons. A Turkish daily newspaper has also reported that Russia recently sent more than 3 million gas masks to Syria for use by its security forces.
Some analysts believe Assad may be preparing to use chemical weapons against his own citizens if the uprising continues. Others think he is preparing a defense against foreign military forces sent to intervene in the government's onslaught. Top-ranking officials of the Israeli Defence Forces believe Syria has the world's largest arsenal of chemical weapons. They are preparing plans and practicing their response in case Assad decides to use those weapons against Israel as a diversion.
The question on the minds of many people is, "Would Bashar al Assad actually start a regional war to hold on to power?" I think the answer is most definitely, "Yes." In fact, the prophet Isaiah predicts it. He even predicts the outcome in chapter 17 of his book. Maybe not now, but someday. And maybe sooner rather than later.
Last Monday, I heard a business analyst being interviewed on a popular television news network. In discussing the recent alarming rise in gasoline prices, he made this statement to the viewers: "Go buy gas for your car today. It will be more expensive tomorrow."
Boy, he was right on. Where I live, gasoline has risen 16 cents per gallon since he voiced that warning.
By early February, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded was $3.56. That's not the highest it's ever been, but gasoline prices have never been this high this early in the season. It's interesting, too, that demand for gasoline is also at record levels -- record LOWS and falling! According to MasterCard, demand fell by 3.1% in recent days and is 5% below last year. And even though Europe has had a brutal winter, this has been a rather mild one for the US. Yet, heating fuel prices have not fallen despite the fact that Americans used far less heating oil than expected this year.
Some observers credit the fact that Saudi Arabia has cut production by more than 250,000 barrels per day. Also, Iran decided to punish Europe for threatening to impose fuel sanctions. The Iranians announced they will stop sending more than 300,000 barrels per day to France, England, and Germany.
So, there seems to be no easy answer to the most popular question these days, "Why?" Why are fuel prices rising when demand is falling?
And, it appears the Obama administration is not going to take advantage of a golden opportunity to drive those prices down, put tens of thousands to work, and decrease our dependence on Arab oil.
Canada has more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia. Because of new technologies not available just a few years ago, Canada has been able to begin successfully recovering that crude oil. The Canadians announced that they wanted to sell that oil to their neighbors to the south. That's us! So the private sector got busy and in 2005 began developing and building a pipeline that would move Canadian crude from northeastern Alberta province to refineries throughout the Midwest and on down to the Gulf Coast states.
Talk about a bonanza! The mammoth pipeline project is privately funded. No government stimulus funds needed. It will employ tens of thousands in construction-related jobs and maybe hundreds of thousands in related industries as the project grows and the oil is finally pumping. And there's so much oil available, it will help make us less dependent on Arab oil. And it will help drive down the refined prices because, currently, Saudi oil is selling for $105 a barrel while Canadian oil is going for $33 per barrel. Some analysts speculate that within a few years, by combining our reserves with Canada's, America could become a net oil exporter. We could sell oil to fuel-hungry China and maybe get some of our money back!
Sounds like a no-brainer, right? Wrong! Remember, we are now living in a "progressive" society. There's no such thing as a "no-brainer" anymore. You see, our President is either so ideologically bound or so financially beholden to the environmentalist lobby that he feels obligated to do its bidding. So, on January 18, President Obama announced he was rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline project.
You see, he first tried to "postpone" his final decision until 2013 so he wouldn't have to antagonize the environmentalists going into the 2012 general elections. Congress would have none of that, though. So they passed legislation requiring him to make a decision within 60 days or formally reject the project.
Then, President Obama complained that his government didn't have time to do an effective environmental survey. That excuse brazenly ignored the fact that his own State Department had already issued an environmental impact study in 2010 that gave the project the environmental "green light." So, the so-called "smartest President" in American history caved to the far Left and said "no" to a "no-brainer." Even many in his own party are outraged.
Canada had already declared that they intended to sell the oil. If not to their closest neighbors (that's us), then to someone else. It is now late February and the Canadians have already begun signing agreements with the Chinese to build the pipeline to Canada's west coast and begin shipping the crude to China.
Unfortunately, I suppose President Obama is keeping his campaign promise to "fundamentally change America." And if America has been, as President Ronald Reagan famously declared, "A city shining on a hill," to fundamentally change that means dimming the lights of the city.
It grieves me to see this happening to our beloved nation. But, I must confess, it doesn't surprise me. I find no role in the Scriptures' prophetic scenario for a nation that resembles the United States. That does not necessarily mean that our country will no longer exist, but I firmly believe it means that it will no longer be a superpower. It will no longer be the "last best hope for a dying world." It will no longer be that "city shining on a hill."
I miss America already.

UPDATES:
• It’s time for the OSCARS! Please pray for the producers, celebrities, studio executives, writers, directors, financiers and crews of all the films nominated for this year’s Academy Awards. Hosted for the 9th time by Billy Crystal, this year’s Oscars are airing on Sunday, February 26th at 5pm PST on ABC, Quite a few of this years’ films celebrate stories of faith, truth, hope and redemption. This is the biggest day of the year to pray for the Hollywood Film business!! For more information on the show and the nominees, click HERE.
REQUESTS:
"Please pray for the family, friends and fans of Whitney Houston, who passed away this past Saturday at the age of 48. Whitney had struggled with substance abuse for many years on and off and the day before the Grammy's it became too much. Whitney, who grew up singing her her church, sang her last song, Thursday night at a club. She got up and for just under a minute, sang "Jesus Loves Me." Two days later she was gone. May we lift up those closest to her and those who loved her and ask the Lord to point them to Him in their grief. The rollercoaster life of great fame and then no work became too much for her, as happens so often with celebrities all over the world. For more info, click HERE.
• This past Sunday, Feb. 12th was the 54th annual Grammys! It’s the evening when the world celebrates America’s leading songwriters, lyricists and musicians at its televised awards ceremony. Please pray for the musicians who won awards, and now wonder if that’s all there is. Please pray for those who didn’t win and wonder if they have any significance. This is the most difficult night for artists in the music world, just like the Oscar’s is the most difficult night for actors in the film world. They all need our prayers to discover God’s love, His comfort, and their true identity in Him. For the results of the evening, click HERE.
• A new one hour TV Pilot about the Bible is now in production on GSN - the Game Show Network. It is entitled “The American Bible Challenge.” Let’s pray for Producers Tom Forman and Michael Davies (Executive producer of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire") as they create this show, “celebrating the Bible in our society and culture.” The contestants play to earn money to support their faith communities! May the show represent positive, intelligent Christians and reflect the truth and beauty of the Bible. For more information on the show, click HERE. To learn what a TV Pilot is, click HERE.
• Please pray for the nation’s Media and Entertainment industry on Sunday, February 26th – the day of the Oscars! Would you join us in praying for God’s blessing on Mastermedia International’s call to begin an annual, national prayer movement to pray on the day of the Academy Awards for the people, projects and the issues coming out of Hollywood that impact the world? You could start it at your church! One idea is to ask your pastor to commission the artists in your church as prophets in our culture, and to bless and encourage artists to seek God as they pursue their career in arts, news media and entertainment. For more ideas on ways to pray that day, click HERE.
• Pray that Christians in Hollywood will find strength in the Lord, to withstand the pressure, competition, loneliness, temptation to compromise, and the frustration from trying to make a living as a creative person in Hollywood. We believe that Hollywood is not only the most influential mission field, but it is also one of the most difficult marketplace work environments. An HPN member published an article describing her life as a young actress in Hollywood. Would you pray for Grace and other young entertainment professionals as you read THIS article?
• Let’s pray for these people to find the unconditional love of Jesus and that He will transform their hearts and their lives this Valentines Day:
• Liam Neeson needs our prayers as he struggles with his faith that got shaken in 2009 when his wife died unexpectedly in a skiing accident. He is now even considering becoming a Muslim. Read more HERE.
• Rich Ross, Chairman of Walt Disney Studios, since 2009, is leading the world’s most famous movie studio at a time where they are in production with the least number of feature films in decades. May the Lord reveal Himself as the God of Love, to Mr. Ross. Read all about him HERE.
• McCauley Culkin, the famous star of the “Home Alone” series and also known for suing his parents for spending all of his millions, is now 31 and not looking well. He has a sad past, and unhappy story and needs to experience the powerful love of Jesus in his life. Read more HERE.
• Pray for the couples and marriages in Hollywood and ask God to fill them up and transform them with His love: Angelina and Brad, David and Victoria Beckham and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. This month’s HPN Teen Prayer Calendar has these and other couples listed HERE.
• Please pray Mary and Dieter Boy as they produce the “Faith in Film Lounge”during the 62nd Berlin Film Festival, "Berlinale," on Wednesday, Feb. 15th in the Sony Center, Berlin. It’s open to all in the Film Industry who are visiting the “Berlinale.” For more info., email: m.a.bochert@gmx.de. The “Berlinale” is the world's largest film festival, taking place Feb. 9-19, 2012.

• Pray for the couples and marriages in Hollywood and ask God to fill them up and transform them with His love: Angelina and Brad, David and Victoria Beckham and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. This month’s HPN Teen Prayer Calendar has these and other couples listed HERE.

Senate to vote soon on abortion mandate!
via NRLC (National Right to Life)
February 14, 2012
http://www.nrlc.org
Urge U.S. Senators to Vote for the Blunt Amendment To Protect Conscience Rights and Block an Abortion Mandate!
Take Action!
WASHINGTON (February 14, 2012) -- The U.S. Senate may vote any day on a vital pro-life amendment offered by Senator Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) to a highway bill that is pending on the Senate floor.
The text of the Blunt Amendment consists of the language taken from an NRLC-endorsed bill, the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (S. 1467, H.R. 1179). It would amend the Obama health care law (“ObamaCare”) to prevent the imposition of regulatory mandates that violate the religious or moral convictions of those who purchase or provide health insurance.
The Blunt Amendment is Amendment No. 1520 to S. 1813, a highway bill.
When President Obama's health care legislation was under consideration in the Senate in 2009, NRLC warned that a provision dealing with “preventive health services” would empower the Secretary of Health and Human Services to mandate coverage of any medical service, including abortion, merely by adding the service to an expandable list. Predictably, the Administration issued a decree in August, 2011, covering all FDA-approved birth control methods – a mandate that, unless overturned, will produce an irreconcilable conflict between conscience and the coercive force of government for many employers. In recent months, the Administration's "birth-control mandate" has elicited vigorous protests from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Southern Baptist Convention, and many other religious leaders, as an attack on religious liberty
But this is not a debate only about the specific parameters of the birth-control mandate. Exactly the same statutory authority could be used by the Administration -- as early as next year -- to mandate that all health plans pay for elective abortion on demand.
The Blunt Amendment goes to the heart of the problem by amending the ObamaCare law itself, to prevent provisions of the law from being used as a basis for regulatory mandates that violate the religious or moral convictions of those who purchase or provide health insurance.
Please employ the easy-to-use tools here to send a message to your two U.S. senators, urging support for the Blunt Amendment. This vote could occur any day.

In the next day or two the United States Congress will be finalizing legislation (part of the Payroll Tax Credit Extension) that will take away our airwaves and force this channel and the program you are watching off the air. For good.
How? To find more spectrum for wireless companies, the government is looking to take the airwaves away from low-power religious broadcasters like us. Although there are ways for us to remain on the air and still free up spectrum, it seems that Speaker Boehner is objecting to those alternatives.
Low-power TV (LPTV) stations all over the country broadcast programs not often found on more traditional cable and broadcast channels. But if this legislation moves forward we will lose the ability to bring you the kind of news, information and entertainment you enjoy.
To stay on the air we desperately need our loyal viewers like you to immediately call Speaker John Boehner at 202-225-0600 and Majority Leader Eric Cantor 202-225-4000.
Also, please share this message with your friends through email and social networking - the government exists for the people, so let your voice be heard!

The Quick and the Dead

A few years ago, I found myself in a place in life in which I couldn’t drive my car for several months. In the vast sprawl that is Los Angeles, getting very far was nothing short of frustrating. So a generous friend bought me a good bicycle. It was a terrific blessing, and one for which I was truly grateful (you who did it, you know who you are) – and for more than one reason. Yes, it got me where I needed to go, and, sure, it got me in pretty good shape, but that bike helped me to do something even more substantial and worthwhile. It got me to slow down.
Suddenly (if I can use that word in the context of ‘slowing down’), I was traveling not at the breakneck speed of the typical Southern California automobile driver, but at the pace of the urban bicyclist. No longer able to use the freeway system, I was forced to find alternate routes, side streets, and hidden neighborhoods that I never would have sought out if I were in a car. And the strange thing I came to realize is that, in spite of my slower pace, I was enjoying myself. I could catch the smell of spices as I passed through various ethnic neighborhoods. I received a smile and a wave from the mother and her little girl playing in their tiny yard. I could hear neighbors chatting with each other over fences. I could see the small mom-and-pop shops and the wares they displayed in their windows. I could read clever graffiti on the sides of buildings (well… some of it was clever).

Voice of the Martyrs Prayer Update for week of February 17, 2012
"Prayer is the pulse of life; by it the doctor can tell what is the condition of the heart. The sin of prayerlessness is a proof for the ordinary Christian or minister that the life of God in the soul is in deadly sickness and weakness." - Andrew Murray
"praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints" - Ephesians 6:18
VOM-USA Prayer Update for February 17, 2012

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Psalm 54:1–3
Save me, O God, by Your name,
And vindicate me by Your strength.
Hear my prayer, O God;
Give ear to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have risen up against me,
And oppressors have sought after my life;
They have not set God before them. Selah
On Feb. 1, Muslim extremists attacked a church in Ouargla, eastern Algeria, damaging church property. According to VOM contacts, Pastor Mourad had received a threatening letter two weeks earlier demanding that he leave the area but had not taken the threat seriously. However, around midnight on Feb.1, several men broke through the rear gate of the church and destroyed some church equipment. They also tried to break into the church building but were unsuccessful. In 2009, Pastor Mourad’s wife was beaten and seriously injured by an unknown group of attackers. And last year, an angry mob shouted death threats while throwing heaps of trash over the church walls. Despite these attacks, Pastor Mourad is convinced that the Lord has called him to serve in Ouargla, and he refuses to leave. “No matter what happens, we will stay here,” he says. Praise God for his faithfulness.

John 20:30–31
And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
A Christian in Bosnia recently shared the gospel with his neighbors by giving them some humanitarian supplies along with a VOM-provided gospel story book. After receiving a package of supplies from the Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse, “Henry” offered the supplies to his neighbors, along with an illustrated Jesus: He Lived Among Us story book, which tells the story of Jesus from the gospels. A 25-year-old woman kept asking Henry questions about the difference between Croatian Christmas celebrations and Christian celebrations. “It came to my mind to use the book to talk more about Jesus and his plan for humanity,” Henry said. “In the end, I told her to read the book and find out more about the life of this wonderful and unique man.” Praise God for the creativity and willingness believers all over the world have to share Christ’s message.

Psalm 61:1–3
Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For You have been a shelter for me,
A strong tower from the enemy.
On Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, Sudanese forces bombed a school run by Samaritan’s Purse in the Nuba mountains in Southern Kordofan. The bombing occurred on the first day of school, when the Heiban Bible College campus was crowded with students, teachers and families. Although Sudanese forces dropped eight bombs, destroying two buildings, no one was killed. A statement from the United States’ ambassador to the United Nations said the attack “underscores the viciousness of Sudan’s ongoing military campaign in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states” in a conflict affecting 50,000 people. Samaritan’s Purse reported that four churches in the region have been destroyed since August. Nearly 30,000 refugees from the Nuba mountain have filled a camp across the border in South Sudan. Please pray for those affected by the ongoing violence and for those who are bringing Jesus’ name to the area.

Hal Lindsey Report (02-17-12): Hollywood's "Logic," Christophobia Rising, Back in America..., Guard Your Heart
via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter, www.hallindsey.com
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
Last week, "Movieguide," a family guide to movies and entertainment, released the 2012 edition of its "Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry." In the report, Dr. Ted Baehr, "Movieguide's" founder and publisher, details some remarkable information.
Dr. Baehr shows that the most family-friendly movies are, on average, much more profitable than the least family-friendly ones. In 2011, moral, uplifting films earned twice as much money as those with offensive, obscene, and immoral content. Over the last 5 to 10 years, though, movies with strong Christian, redemptive worldviews averaged almost 250% more earnings than their immoral, anti-Christian rivals.
Why? Well, the most obvious reason is that films with a "G" rating are simply available to the largest potential audience. Anyone and everyone can get in to see a G-rated film. What's more, in most cases, parents can take their families to see "G" rated films without fear their children will be exposed to unhealthy images and influences.
And it's icing on the cake for most parents if those films actively espouse wholesome ideas and principles.
Yet Hollywood always seems taken by surprise when a wholesome film succeeds. And the studios continue to pour hundreds of millions of dollars each year into movies that are dark, immoral, anti-Christian, anti-American, and anti-God. Again, I ask, "Why?"
I think the Apostle Paul may have given us a clue. In Romans 1, he writes about the accelerating downward spiral of a culture that has rejected God and is on its way to destruction: "...professing to be wise, they became fools." Then he goes on to describe their end: "And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting...."
"Reprobate mind" can also be translated "depraved mind." It's taken from the Greek word "adokimos," which, in this context, means "a mind that can no longer discern what is in its best interest."
Doesn't that describe Hollywood's logic? It turns its back on its largest audience by refusing to make movies that are proven to make more money. Instead, it pours its resources into films that its audience has demonstrated it does not want to see and that often do not even earn back their production costs.
"A mind that can no longer discern what is in its best interest," even when that best interest is a selfish one, making money and winning fame.
Also, this week I'll discuss a recent discovery by Newsweek magazine. In last week's issue, the venerable periodical informed its readership that it has learned that Christians are being persecuted in some parts of the world. Well, I suppose better late than never.
An article written by a young Somali woman, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, details what many of our brothers and sisters in Christ are experiencing across the world. In fact, the persecution of Christians has become so widespread and virulent that she claims it must be recognized for what it is: "Christophobia."
One organization that follows the plight of persecuted Christians worldwide claims that more Christians died for their faith in the twentieth century that at any other time in history. Reports indicate that more than 150,000 were martyred last year alone.
But back in America, considered by most people to be the world's "most Christian" nation, we're not thinking about defending and protecting Christians from persecution. Instead, our government is plotting ways to force Christian organizations to go against their doctrinal principles to fulfill the Marxist aspirations of our leaders.
Forgive me if that sounds harsh. I believe, however, that the time has come to be harsh in our response to our government's Orwellian machinations. If not, we will lose the freedom to practice our faith and convictions free of the bureaucrats' approval. And trust me, the bureaucrats and "czars" are just itching to disapprove of anything and everything that's important to Christianity.
The recent decision by the Administration to force religious organizations to provide contraceptive, sterilization, and pharmacological abortion coverage in their employees' insurance packages -- no matter the moral, theological, or doctrinal beliefs of the organization -- is just the "thin end of the wedge."
Forget the condescending, clumsy attempt at sleight-of-hand by the President to "compromise" by requiring the insurance companies to provide those services "free of charge, without co-pays, and without hassle." The implication is that if they don't have to "pay" for the services, the protesting organizations won't have to violate their consciences.
The President must know that this is wrong on so many levels. First, he is arbitrarily commanding private businesses to do his bidding and pay for something their customers don't want. Then he must know (and it's even more alarming if he doesn't) that the insurers will just pass those costs on to their other customers -- no matter their moral or religious convictions. Finally, he is forcing those religious organizations to choose between breaking their moral codes to provide insurance with the offensive coverage to their employees or breaking the civil law by not providing the insurance.
But, like I said, this is about more than just insurance coverage. This is about fulfilling Marxist ideologies and aspirations. This is about redefining religious liberty -- not coincidentally the freedom enshrined in the very first amendment to our Constitution -- as a method of controlling public opinion and, ultimately, the lives of all Americans.
What can we do to survive the threats posed by these two almost overwhelming forces in American life: Hollywood and the federal government? Jesus said that we must guard our hearts. Proverbs says that "as a man thinks in his heart, so is he." Paul gave us a prescription for maintaining God's peace in times of great temptation, stress, or discouragement. He said, "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things... and the God of peace shall be with you."
Think on these things, brothers and sisters, and God's peace will keep you steady in the face of all that is soon coming upon us. Allow the Holy Spirit to control your life and walk moment by moment in dependence on Him.

Prosecution—The Philosophy and Correct Application of Science
by Tim Chaffey and Jason Lisle
February 9, 2012
...what do the scientific dating methods indicate? In this chapter we will examine the nature and role of science, as well as the ability and limitations of scientific dating methods. It is crucial that we have a proper understanding of how science works, and the underlying philosophy and assumptions involved in any age-dating method before any accurate age estimates can be made. We will then apply proper scientific techniques to the evidence. We will find that the scientific evidence confirms the biblical age of the earth of several thousand years.

Can we do all things through Christ?
by Chuck McKnight, AiG–U.S.
February 10, 2012
This phrase comes from a well-known verse in which Paul wrote, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). To understand the context of this verse, it is essential to read the verses that precede it. In the first few verses of Philippians 4, Paul urged his readers to trust God, stand firm, and always rejoice, no matter what their circumstances may be. He then pointed out the hardships he had personally suffered in verses 11 and 12. Immediately following those statements, in verse 13 Paul clarified that he was only able to endure such things because Christ empowered him to do so. This is simply a personal testimony of the strength Jesus supplied Paul to bring him through his trials. The Greek word translated “can do” (ischuo) more precisely indicates having the strength needed. It comes from the root word, ischus, which means strength. So we see that this verse does not mean that we can do absolutely anything. Nothing in this context suggests that Jesus hands out miracles to accomplish absurdities or trivialities. Rather, it means that Christ gives strength to endure the difficulties we will face for serving Him.

Asia Bibi: Blessings in Prison

“The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening ...” (1 Kings 17:6a).
Dear Friend,
Do you remember the story of Elijah being fed by the ravens? Asia Bibi, a Christian wife and mother imprisoned in Pakistan, has received hope and encouragement in a similar way. Asia has remained in jail since her arrest on blasphemy charges in June 2009. A Pakistani court found her guilty of blasphemy in June 2010 and sentenced her to death. But God has not forgotten her!
Asia shared this story with a VOM contact who recently visited her in prison:
There is a beautiful thing that happens every day in my cell. Two days after they announced my death penalty, I was brought into [death row]. Every morning around 3:30 or 4, a brown bird with a long beak appears and sits on the boundary wall. This bird also comes every evening around 5. He sits there for 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening. Later on he became my friend. I talk to him and he also talks to me.
As I watched this bird every day, I tried to understand the meaning of him coming day after day. I think this is a messenger from God giving me His message. When the bird comes, I feel encouraged and peaceful. I feel comforted after his visit. I think this is a very significant sign from God.
Asia also reported that she spends much of her time in prayer, including prayer for those around the world who pray for her and speak out on her behalf.
The Voice of the Martyrs provides financial assistance to Asia's family through our Families of Prisoners fund. We invite you to make a special contribution to this fund, which enables VOM to help the families of imprisoned Christians, families like Asia Bibi's.
Please CLICK HERE to support the families of Christians imprisoned for their faith around the world, and please continue to pray for Asia Bibi as well as her husband, Ashiq, and daughters. Laos—Village Leaders Retract Demands

Proverbs 15:1–2
A soft answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly,
But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness.
A pastor’s wise words turned away the demands of a village leader in Laos recently. On Nov. 21, 2011, seven village officials demanded that a pastor and his church members sign documents promising they would stop witnessing. The church members refused to sign, explaining that to do so would be a betrayal of God’s teachings. The village head continued to pressure them, saying, “Christians are not good people. They do not drink, smoke or participate in the important [village] occasions.” The pastor finally agreed to sign the documents under the condition that he receive copies to show Lao Communist party officials, the governor and leaders of his church denomination. The village leaders then immediately backed off of their demands. Our VOM contact wrote, “The Christians in this village are poor and uneducated people, but the Holy Spirit puts the words in their hearts to say!” Thank God for these faithful villagers, and pray that they will remain strong in the face of harassment from local officials.
Pakistan—Evangelist Faces Harassment and Spiritual Attack

Acts 1:8
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
A VOM-supported evangelist in the Afghan-Pakistan border region reports that he is being harassed by a local Muslim leader and is also under attack by spiritual forces. After a recent Christmas service that was attended by a few Muslims, the evangelist received a letter warning him that his congregation was not respecting the Muslim call to prayer. Police have monitored the evangelist’s activities, and the local mullah has told his audience that Christian activities “must be stopped.” The evangelist says the region historically has been difficult for mission workers and that he is affected spiritually when he goes on prayer walks. Pray that God will grant supernatural strength to this brother and his church.
Azerbaijan—New Laws Further Restrict Religious Freedom

1 Timothy 2:1–4
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Under new amendments to Azerbaijan’s Criminal and Administrative Codes, anyone who distributes religious materials that haven’t been through state censorship may be imprisoned for two to five years or fined the equivalent of nine years’ salary. President Ilham Aliyev signed the amendments into law on Dec. 12, 2011, the latest in a series of increasingly restrictive legislative actions by the government. In July 2011, amendments introduced new controls on religious education among other restrictions. In December 2010, fines for illegal religious activity under the Administrative Code were greatly increased, and in 2009, the Religion Law was twice amended to restrict rights and freedoms related to religion. Pray that President Aliyev will stop enacting laws that restrict the religious freedoms of his people, and pray that believers in Azerbaijan will continue to be bold in sharing their faith.

God, can I ask you something?
I'm not sure who originally wrote this, but I got it sent to me in an email and I wanted to post it here:
The reason I sing is to praise the One who gave His life to be...the reason I sing!
Scriptural References: II Samuel 22:31, Proverbs 3:5, Hebrews 2:13
"The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.. ." (Proverbs 11:25)
In all things give thanks. 1 Thes 5:18

The reason I sing is to praise the One who gave His life to be...the reason I sing!
Me (in a tizzy) : God, can I ask you something?
GOD: Sure.
Me: Promise you won't get mad?
GOD: I promise.
Me (frustrated): Why did you let so much stuff happen to me today?
GOD: What do you mean?
Me: Well I woke up late,
GOD: Yes
Me: My car took forever to start,
GOD: Okay....
Me (growling): At lunch, they made my sandwich wrong and I had to wait
GOD: Hmmmm..
Me: On the way home, my phone went dead, just as I picked up a call
GOD: All right
Me (loudly): And to top it all off, when I got home, I just wanted to soak my feet in my foot massager and relax, but it wouldn't work. Nothing went right today! Why did you do that?
GOD: Well let me see..... the death angel was at your bed this morning and I had to send one of the other angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that.
Me (humbled): Oh...
GOD: I didn't let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that might have hit you if you were on the road
Me (ashamed): ............
GOD: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick and I didn't want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn't afford to miss work
Me (embarrassed): Oh.....
GOD: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give a false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered
Me (softly): I see God
GOD: Oh and that foot massager, it had a short that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.
Me: I'm sorry God.
GOD: Don't be sorry, just learn to trust me.........in all things, the good and the bad
Me: I WILL trust you God
GOD: And don't doubt that my plan for your day is always better than your plan
Me: I won't God. And let me just tell you God, thank you for everything today.
GOD: You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I love looking after my children.
