A Love Language Minute: Children Need to be Loved

by Dr. Gary Chapman
www.5lovelanguages.com

"I don't ever do anything right." Those are not the words of a child, but of a 35 year old single daughter who has never felt loved by her mother. "I could never please my Mom," she said. "Whatever I did it was never good enough for her. I just wish that once I could hear her say, 'I'm proud of you.'"

This daughter's love language is "word of affirmation," but she never received them from her mother. Does the mother love the daughter? My guess is 'yes'. How tragic that she never learned to communicate her love in a language her daughter could understand. Dr.Ross Campbell and I wrote the book:The 5 Love Languages of Children with the prayer that it would help thousands of parents learn to effectively love their children.

Do They Feel Loved?
Almost all parents love their children, but not all children feel loved. Often the difference lies in the way parents talk to their children. Words of affection, praise and encouragement communicate "I love you." They fall like gentle rain on the soul of the child. They nurture the child's inner sense of worth and security.

Conversely, cutting words, spoken out of anger, can hurt a child's self-esteem and create doubts about his abilities. Children think we deeply believe what we say. The Hebrew proverb did not overstate the reality when it said, "The tongue has the power of life and death." Words are spoken quickly, but are not soon forgotten. A child reaps the benefits of affirming words for a lifetime.

Love Has a Tone
Long before children understand the meaning of words, children receive emotional messages. The tone of voice, the gentleness of mood, communicate emotional warmth. All parents speak to their infants, and what the baby understands is the look on the face and the affectionate sounds, combined with physical closeness.

Young children don't understand the meaning of the words, "I love you." They can't see love as they can see a toy or a book. But they begin to associate the words "I love you" with the hugs and tender touches you give them as you say the words. It's the tone of voice that they hear and they associate it with the words, "I love you." Affirming words communicate love even before the child understands the words.

SOUTH SUDAN—Gunmen Attack Village
Source: VOM Contacts

Job 5:10–12
He gives rain on the earth,
And sends waters on the fields.
He sets on high those who are lowly,
those who mourn are lifted to safety.
He frustrates the devices of the crafty,
So that their hands cannot carry out their plans.

Gunmen shot and killed a number of people in a South Sudan village last week, exposing VOM workers to potential danger. On Jan. 17, a VOM worker reported that gunmen had killed a man named Godana, who had gone to fetch water for his family. “Godana was the watchman at the compound for more than 20 years,” the worker said. “I knew him well.” The town is small, and residents walk between shops and the market, making them vulnerable to attack. “I’m very concerned about our staff and their families,” the worker said. Pray for the safety of our staff in the region and for other Christians during this dangerous period.

India—Hindu Nationalists Attack Prayer Meeting

2 Corinthians 2:8–10
Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him. For to this end I also wrote, that I might put you to the test, whether you are obedient in all things. Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,

Hindu radicals invaded a pastor’s home on Jan. 9, severely beating several of the 20 believers who had gathered at the home near Bangalore for a prayer service. At about 10:30 p.m., a group of Hindu nationalists rushed in with clubs and iron rods and began to beat the Christians. The attackers, who accused the Christians of forcibly converting Hindus to Christianity, disappeared after the attack. Pastor Shanthakumar, 39, lost a finger on his left hand during the attack, a young man received a serious injury to his leg, and a woman received head injuries and suffered nerve damage in her right hand. All those admitted to the hospital were released two days later. Police are searching for the attackers, but no arrests have been made. Pray that the faith of these believers will remain strong and that they will be obedient to God. Pray also for Pastor Shanthakumar, who oversees two churches that he founded in the area.

Laos—Christian Leaders Released
Source: Human Rights Watch for Lao Religious Freedom

1 Corinthians 9:24

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

Seven Christian leaders who were arrested during a Christmas service nearly one month ago in Boukham village, Laos, were unconditionally released on Jan. 12. The village chief ordered authorities to raid the service on Dec. 16, 2011, and the seven leaders were held without charge until Dec. 30. Freedom of religion is guaranteed in the Lao constitution, so authorities were unable to charge the pastors with violating a religion law. Instead, the leaders were eventually charged with violating the village’s customs and beliefs known as hiit, and they were fined the equivalent of $1,425, about 35 times the average monthly wage. International organizations pressured authorities to release the Christians, and they received their unconditional release three days after their families filed complaints against Boukham village authorities. Praise God for the release of these Christian leaders, and pray for them as they return to their families and churches.

Answers in Genesis: Was Augustine an old-earth creationist?

by Peter Galling and Dr. Terry Mortenson, AiG–U.S.
January 18, 2012

Many old-earth proponents in the church today try to use the Christian theologian Augustine (AD 354–430) as a support for their belief in millions of years. However, there are several problems with this view. To begin with, during the years AD 389-417, Augustine wrote three commentaries on Genesis and discussed the early chapters of Genesis in The City of God. His thinking changed in some ways in the process, and his writings are confusing, even somewhat contradictory, at points. Over the years he fluctuated between allegorical interpretations and literal views. But there is plenty of evidence that Augustine wasn’t an old-earther. Rather, he believed that God created everything in an instant and that He described it for us as being completed in six normal days for the sake of our understanding. Furthermore, Augustine believed the genealogies given in Genesis to be literal chronologies and that the pre-Flood patriarchs lived to be around 900 years. He also stated, “Unbelievers are also deceived by false documents which ascribe to history many thousand years, although we can calculate from Sacred Scripture that not 6,000 years have passed since the creation of man.”

Continue reading to see from his own writings what Augustine really did—and did not—believe about creation.

A Love Language Minute: Patience: Because People Aren't Perfect

by Dr. Gary Chapman

www.5lovelanguages.com

In Western culture, we are not trained to be patient. We get irritated just waiting for the computer to boot up. We are also impatient with people who don't operate on our time table. Or waitresses who bring us the wrong order. And yet, patience is one of the traits of love. To be loving is to be patient. In a nutshell: patience is accepting the imperfections of others.

Patience begins by recognizing that people are not machines. They have thoughts, feelings, and they make decisions. Those decisions do not always please us, but we must give them the same freedom that God gives them. To condemn your son for not going to college will not have a positive effect on his life. Step back, and give him freedom to be human.

Isolation is not Patience
Patience does not mean that we do nothing when others are upset with us. I've known people who will sit stone-faced and listen to the ranting and raving of their spouse and then get up and walk out of the room with no comment. This is not patience it is isolation. It is self-centeredness.

Patience is caring enough to listen empathetically with a view to understanding what is going on inside the other person. Such listening requires time and is itself an expression of love. Patience might mean remaining calm when what the other person is saying is hurtful. Patience says, "I care enough that no matter what you say or how you say it, I will listen and try to understand.

Positive Patience
When I become impatient, lose my temper, and spout condemning words to my wife, I have become an enemy, not a friend. So, she will likely fight the enemy or flee from the enemy. So, we have a royal argument that no one wins, and both of us walk away wounded, and try to avoid each other the next few days. All because I was impatient.

On the other hand, had I been patient, I would have asked questions in an effort to understand my wife's behavior. Once I understand what motivated her behavior, I'm more likely to have a reasoned response. I am now her friend and she responds positively to a friend. The whole atmosphere remains positive because I chose to be patient.

Pakistan—Evicted Couple Stands Strong

Micah 5:2
“ But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old,
From everlasting.”

A Pakistani couple who have endured several years of persecution from villagers and local authorities remain strong in faith even after losing their home and possessions. Arif, 35, used to spend evenings in his small village visiting friends and neighbors, sharing the gospel and praying. But in 2009, several men began to harass Arif, trying to compel him to deny Christ. He was beaten seven times, and police continued the beatings for 13 days after arresting him on Sept. 27, 2009. When Arif refused to return to Islam, he was imprisoned on false robbery charges. Arif was released four months later when his wife paid his bail. But that same evening, the village leader confiscated their livestock and home and told them to leave. They left with $2 in their pockets. Last month, a VOM staff member met with the couple for several days to pray through the events with them. Arif prayed, “O God, we thank you because you have not left us. … But [now] we have seen and experienced that you never leave us. … Lord, we are ready to obey you.” Praise God for the testimony of Arif and his wife.

Israel—University Forbids Contact with Messianic Jews
Sources: VOM Contacts, Ariel University of Samaria, IsraelNationalNews.com

John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

One of the largest universities in Israel has made it clear that Christian students will have their visas revoked if they work with or fellowship with Messianic Jews, according to VOM contacts. Many Christian students have submitted to Ariel University’s stipulations. “Believers allow their God-given freedom of choice and worship to be taken away in order to spare themselves,” wrote a VOM contact. Ariel University of Samaria, which serves more than 11,000 students, is located in the West Bank city of Ariel. Every student at the university is required to take classes in Judaism, Jewish heritage or Land of Israel studies. The VOM contact continued, “May God give us the strength when the time comes to cling to the words of Yeshua, ‘Greater love has no man, than to lay down his life [or his self-interest or his ministry] for his brother.’” Pray for the body of Christ in Israel.

Comoros—Believer Imprisoned for Faith
Source: Compass Direct News

2 Corinthians 5:20
Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.

The simple act of reporting a burglary cost a Comoros man his family and eight months in jail. After Musta Kim reported a burglary at his home, police officers investigating the burglary discovered a Bible and a copy of the “JESUS” film at his home. Police then arrested Musta for practicing a forbidden religion and locked him in jail. After being held eight months without a trial, Musta appealed for his freedom. He was finally granted his freedom, but his family rejected him and he could not return to his home. Musta now suffers from a skin disease that he contracted in prison. Pray for Musta and other Christians in Comoros who suffer for practicing a “forbidden” religion. May they be ambassadors for Christ in these tiny islands.

Hal Lindsey Report (01-20-12): Christ at the Checkpoint, the Obstacle: Israel, "Replacement Jews," What "Occupation?", the "Palestinians," Replacement Christianity

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'

I've been in the ministry for more than fifty years. Yet I never cease to be surprised or disturbed (perhaps "outraged" may be a bit more accurate) when ministers and theologians attack Israel. When I say to my friends or colleagues, "Can you believe this?", I'm sure some of them are thinking, "Hal, just accept the fact that the world hates Israel!"

I do accept that. But what I never can accept is that the Church hates Israel!

Well, certainly not the whole Church, but large portions of it. This should come as no surprise to those of you who regularly watch "The Hal Lindsey Report." But on the other hand, like me, it probably does continue to surprise you if you love Israel and think all other Christians do, too.

Not true. In fact, there are large numbers of Christians, including many in liberal Protestant denominations, ministries, ecumenical associations, and para-church organizations that virtually despise Israel and what she stands for.

And that number is growing. And what's worse is that it's growing within Evangelical ranks.

Of course, you've heard me address this topic before when I've discussed the growing "Replacement Theology" movement. If you recall, those who promote "Replacement Theology" think that God reneged on His unconditional covenant with Abraham, scrapped the promises He made to his descendants, the Jews, and bestowed them upon the gentile church. So, when you read about the promises made to Israel in the Bible, you just replace "Israel" with "the Church." Never mind about the curses and judgments God pronounced against them. Apparently, those don't count.

I'm sorely tempted to label that a crock of lies, but I'll restrain myself for the sake of decorum. I will point out, however, that to believe that proposition is to essentially call God a liar.

You're probably asking yourself, "Why is Hal bringing this up now?"

Well, in just a few weeks, a group of church leaders and theologians -- the majority of them from the United States -- are gathering in Bethlehem (Judea, not Pennsylvania) to do one thing: demonize Israel. Their effort to de-legitimize the nation of Israel and, as a bonus, the Christian Zionism movement in America will take place under the guise of a conference entitled, "Christ at the Checkpoint."

The group has the audacity to state that they hope their deliberations will cause many of us American Christian Zionists to reconsider our position and "seek a proper (my emphasis) awareness of the issues of peace, justice, and reconciliation."

But they give the game away when they refer to Israel as an "illegal regime" and say that it has "reached a level of almost unimaginable and sophisticated criminality." Further, they don't make me feel all warm and fuzzy when they accuse many of us of being "accomplices in crimes against humanity, such as the crimes of apartheid and persecution..." by supporting Israel's right to exist. And just to make sure that we Christian Zionists understand where they're coming from, they say our beliefs are "a crime and sin as defying the core of the Gospel."

Well, that sure makes me want to donate a few bucks to the cause. How about you?

Seriously, though, to have a group of Christian ministers, theologians, and church leaders (some of whose names you may recognize) travel to Israel and declare to the world that the Jews are NOT God's "chosen people," as the Word describes them, but, rather, bastards and impostors (my words, not exactly theirs, but certainly their implication), is a bit unsettling. Wouldn't you agree? Further, to hear them proclaim that the land of Israel is not the Jews' documented inheritance from God, but belongs to the Palestinians (who are, as Newt Gingrich recently described them, an "invented" people), drips of heresy.

Can you believe this? Oops, there I go.

Well, you don't have to have a Ph.D. to guess what I'll be discussing on this week's program. Of course, I'll also give you some further background and other details. I'm sure you'll hear a lot that you need to know for future discussions with your friends, family, and colleagues.

Don't miss this week's Report on TBN, Daystar, Inspiration, CPM Network, various local stations, www.hallindsey.com or www.hischannel.com. Please check your local listings.

God Bless,

Who is the Angel of the Lord?

via Answers Weekly, Answers in Genesis
by Tim Chaffey, AiG–U.S.
January 13, 2012

Christians generally agree that many Old Testament passages that mention “the Angel of the Lord” are appearances of the pre-incarnate Christ (Christ before He came in the flesh). Here are some of the characteristics of this “Angel” as given in the various passages: The “Angel” is referred to with masculine pronouns (Genesis 16:13; Judges 6:21). He is identified as God (Judges 6:11, 14; Zechariah 12:8). He performed miracles (Judges 6:21; 13:20). Gideon and Manoah thought they would die because they saw the “Angel” face to face (Judges 6:22; 13:22). The “Angel” accurately foretold future events (Judges 13:3). His name is “wonderful” (Judges 13:18; cf., Isaiah 9:6). He destroyed 185,000 soldiers of the Assyrian army in one night (2 Kings 19:35). While angels have occasionally performed some of these actions, such as miracles and prophecy, there are clear examples when “the Angel of the Lord” cannot be viewed as a normal angel. He is occasionally identified as God, accepted worship, and at least two people who saw Him thought they would die for seeing Him face to face. These same attributes and activities are clearly attributed to God elsewhere in Scripture.

PRAISES:

• HPN had an encouraging end of the year, with friends and supporters rallying around to close out 2011 financially and prayerfully solid. Thank you to all of you who are supporting our growing ministry in gifts of time, money and prayer. We need them all and are so grateful for everything you do. Keep praising God for His faithfulness to us and for His love for the people in Hollywood!

• Praise God for two dear friends of HPN who are celebrating their mile stone birthdays: Our angel Ava, on Feb. 1st, who was the sole supporter of the first five Hollywood ministries, along with other visionary giving starting 25 years ago. She has had more impact on our industry than any other single person! Also, Bob Yerkes, on Feb. 11th, who is celebrating 65 years of being a stuntman in show business while impacting hundreds of people’s lives! Happy Birthday to both of you and we praise God for your faithfulness in Hollywood and your relentless and impactful Christian walks!

• Praise God that Christians are having a major impact on the advertising world this year! At least three out of the top five commercials that have been chosen as finalists for the Doritos Crash The Superbowl Contest were created by Christians! The top two commercials chosen, after the public votes on-line for their favorites, will actually air during the Super Bowl. We’re so proud of our creative community for producing the best of the 6,000 commercial entries chosen for this prestigious contest. In fact, HPN members created "SLING BABY” and we’re so proud of them. To check out the finalists click HERE. Watch the videos, choose your favorite and then click on VOTE.

• We thank God for our friend Andy Erish who has just experienced an answer to many years of prayers. Andy, an expert on Film History, is a professor at Chapman University and his first text book has been published. Check it out HERE.

UPDATES:

• There are now two established houses of prayer in Hollywood – all within the last year. Radiance International opened this past summer, just down the street from HPN. And, Hollywood House of Prayer is celebrating their one-year anniversary of their ministry this month. It is so exciting to see more people committing to pray in this city and for this industry. If you are a local, be sure to come and pray with us at HPN, at Radiance Intl., or the HHOP. Let’s keep praying for more answered prayers in Hollywood. God is doing great things here!

REQUESTS:

• The 69th annual Golden Globes is tonight, Sunday, Jan. 15th. Brought to us by the Hollywood Foreign Press and hosted again this year by the controversial British comedian, Ricky Gervais, this televised event is second only to The Academy Awards, and it sets the pace for which films may win an Oscar by it’s outcome each year. Would you pray for the winners and the losers, that they find their identity in Jesus, that they not get their confidence from what awards they win or lose, and that they get introduced to their creator who loves them just as they are. For more info on the Gold Globes, click HERE.

• This is Oscar season! January 24th is the day that Jennifer Lawrence will announce this year’s Oscar nominations. Then February 26th is the 84th Academy Awards, hosted by Billy Crystal. Please pray for this difficult and stressful time of year. It’s when everyone on both sides of the camera are most vulnerable as they see if they are recognized for their work. Some even believe it’s the time they find out how much they’re going to work again! May the Lord fill their hearts with His purpose, love, peace and confidence. For more information about one of the biggest days of the year in Hollywood, click HERE.

• Mastermedia Intl. ministry has called Sunday, February 26th a day for the nation to pray for the Media and Entertainment Industry. Would you join all of us in praying for the people, the projects and the issues that impact the world, all coming out of Hollywood, on that day? One idea is to ask your pastor to commission the artists in your church as prophets in our culture that day, and to encourage artists to seek God as they pursue their career in arts, media and entertainment. For more ideas on ways to pray that day, click HERE.

• Pray for model Nicole Weider, who became a Christian after a Victoria’s Secret photo shoot and now commits her life to being a positive role model to young girls hoping to make it in the industry. Pray that the Lord gives her favor as a model and that she makes an eternal impact on everyone she works with and the public who watches her life choices. To find out more, read this article about her life.

• Pray for both Katy Perry and Russell Brand as they end their 14 month marriage. In many ways it is more of a curse than a blessing to be a celebrity and they and their families need our prayers as they go through this heart breaking time. Let’s pray for them both to experience the unconditional love, peace and healing of Jesus.

• The Hollywood Reporter published a list of the top 5 celebrity philanthropists. #1 is Lady Gaga, #2 is Justin Bieber, #3-5 are George Clooney, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, and Leonardo DeCaprio. Let's pray for these generous people and ask the Lord to encourage them in their giving. For details click HERE. Let’s also pray for more Hollywood celebrities to become role models, especially for young people in our country. Celebrity football player and Christian Tim Tebow inspires others with his huge heart. To read about Tim click HERE.

• Pray for peace and comfort for the friends and family of Scotty Dugan, a member of our Christian Hollywood community who passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 21st. Scotty was a godly man, former associate international editor of The Hollywood Reporter and head of Dugan & Story PR. He died while traveling to the funeral of John Atterberry, the music executive and film producer who was killed in the Dec. 9th shooting in Hollywood whom we prayed about last month. If you’re local and need info on Scotty’s memorial service click HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

• In March, 2012, Chosen People Ministries will be launching two initiatives in the Los Angeles area to share the Gospel with the Jewish people and to also equip the local church for Jewish evangelism - and your prayers are greatly needed! They have a heart for the Jewish people in Hollywood and want to invite our community to join them. The first initiative is the Israel, the Church, and the Middle East Crisis conference hosted at Biola University on March 23-24th. For more details please visit www.chosenpeople.com/conference. The other initiative is a month-long Isaiah 53 Evangelistic Campaign. To request the free book Isaiah 53 – Explained, go to www.Isaiah53.com. Will you pray for their work and for the wonderful Jewish people in Hollywood who don’t yet know the Good News of Jesus, their Messiah? Marion

• Pray for former agent and author Victorya Rogers, her husband Will and their children as they recover from losing their home over Christmas after a burglar broke in, stole what he wanted and then set their house on fire. There were out of town and couldn’t get back for days to see the severe loss and yet they have kept their eyes on the Lord. Their prayer requests are to remember that God always carries us through everything and that they have lost memories, personal treasures, clothes, pictures, etc., yet to remember it’s only stuff! May the Lord turn this into good for them and make them more Christ-like in the process.

Hal Lindsey Report (01-13-12): China Rising, It is Written, a Lesson from Lot, Land for No Peace, Embracing the Enemy, "Dividing the land..."

via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter that I received weekly.

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'

China is rising. This is no secret. In fact, China is now a greater part of our daily lives than many Americans would prefer. Not only are many of the goods we purchase manufactured in China (goods that once were made in the USA), but every American owes thousands of dollars to China by virtue of the money it has lent our government.

Gradually, China is buying its way into every country in the world, or so it seems.

But China is also a paradox. While it is undeniably the dominant economic engine of Asia -- some would say of the world -- it is a nation still ruled -- and some would say brutally so -- by a repressive Communist regime.

And, apparently, the regime is growing a little worried. Last week, Chinese President Hu Jintao accused the West of trying to expand its influence in China by corrupting Chinese culture. (He's just now noticing this? He apparently hasn't seen American TV or movies or listened to much American music the last couple of decades.)

Writing in the Communist Party's magazine, President Hu warned his countrymen that the West is trying to divide the Chinese people using ideology and culture. He also declared that China needs to deepen and promote its own brand of Chinese socialism.

He obviously feels America's newfound socialism is inferior to the Chinese version.

It's also no secret that China has embarked on an aggressive military build-up. I suppose with all the extra money from exports, all the extra young men who have no prospects for marriage due to China's one-child per family policy with a premium placed on male children, Chinese industry's massive and unquenchable thirst for energy products and raw materials, and its deep-seated need for regional hegemony, a military build-up is the logical way to go.

Interestingly, China is building its military just as the United States is gutting its own. I'm sure this pleases China, but I'm also sure it perplexes Europe. This means that Europe will have to rethink its own defense capabilities and obligations. For the first time since World War Two, Europe may not be able to rely on the USA to defend it. Europe may actually have to provide for its own defense -- and offense.

This all fits in with Bible prophecy: A weak (or non-existent) USA and a militarily strong China and Europe; not to mention a revived Russia and a united Muslim confederacy that stretches across northern Africa and down the Arabian peninsula. Every bit of which we are seeing develop right now.

Meanwhile, back at the kibbutz, Israel continues to wonder what will happen when the new gunslinger in the neighborhood, the Muslim Brotherhood, finally assumes power in Egypt. The hardline Islamist group has won the largest share of seats in Egypt's parliament. Contrary to the naive assurances of the Obama Administration, the Muslim Brotherhood, together with the even harder-line Salafist party, will be the dominant power in Egypt. And to no one except the Administration's surprise, its leaders have already announced that they will seek ways to abrogate Egypt's 33-year old treaty with Israel.

Since the 1979 Camp David Accords were the first in the line of insufferable "land for peace" swindles forced upon Israel by the rest of the world, the question may soon be asked, "Will the US uphold its end of the bargain?" You see, President Jimmy Carter convinced Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin to sign the treaty with Anwar Sadat and return the Sinai to Egypt by assuring him that the US would guarantee Egypt's compliance with the treaty's terms. And vice versa with Mr. Sadat, I'm sure.

So, if Egypt's new Islamic government reneges on the pact, will the US honor its guarantee and insist that Egypt return the Sinai to Israel, who held it prior to 1979? After all, if it's truly "land for peace," then if the "peace" is withdrawn, the land should be returned, shouldn't it? My advice to you: don't hold your breath until this happens!

In truth, the same should apply to the Gaza Strip as well. Israel ceded land in return for a promise of peace. There's been no peace with the PA and Hamas, so shouldn't the land be returned? Again, no breath-holding.

Well, you get my point.

However, the Bible prophets tell us that someday soon, a man will come along who will seem to be able to finally make a "land for peace" deal stick. He, too, will guarantee Israel's safety and the Israelis will believe him. So much so that they will let down their guard and finally live in peace and security with their neighbors. The prophets described it as a time of living safely "in unwalled villages."

Of course, the Bible also tells us that about halfway through the covenant's seven-year term, this man will reveal his true nature and insist on being worshipped as God. That's when, as the saying goes, all hell breaks loose.

Fortunately, you and I won't be here. We'll be long gone, caught up to meet our Lord and Savior in the air. And you know what? It won't be a moment too soon. Come quickly, Lord Jesus.

Maranatha!

When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed. Uganda—Pastor Blinded in Attack

2 Timothy 1:8
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God,

Islamic extremists attacked a Ugandan pastor outside his church near Kampala on Christmas Eve, leaving him blind in one eye. Umar Mulinde, the 37-year-old pastor of Gospel Life Church International in Namasuba, told Compass that he was returning to the church for a party with the congregation when a man approached him and called out, “Pastor, pastor.” When Mulinde turned to look, several men poured acid on his face and back. Mulinde’s face, neck and arms were severely burned and he lost sight in one eye. Mulinde had received several threats before the attack for his evangelism and opposition to Sharia courts in Uganda. In October 2011, Muslim leaders declared a fatwa on Mulinde, demanding his death. Pray for Mulinde as he suffers through the trauma and excruciating pain.

China—Shouwang Church Again Denied Facility

Philippians 3:8
Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ

The Shouwang Church continued its outdoor worship services on Jan. 1 after authorities again prevented them from leasing a worship facility. Denied facilities three previous times, the church signed a contract with the Beijing Parkview Wuzhou Hotel on Dec. 17 and even moved some books and other belongings into the space. However, the landlord terminated the contract days later, after receiving pressure from local police, the housing management office and leaders of various government agencies. Police detained at least 48 church members when the congregation gathered on Jan. 1 but released 40 of them by midnight. Nearly 1,000 church members have been temporarily detained since Shouwang’s outdoor services began in April 2011. Pray for the Shouwang Church, which intends to continue meeting outdoors until they are allowed to rent indoor facilities.

Afghanistan—Christians Grow in Number
Sources: WORLD Magazine, Operation World

Mark 16:15
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Afghanistan’s small Christian community is surging, becoming one of the fastest growing evangelical populations. The State Department estimates that only 500 to 8,000 Christians currently exist in Afghanistan. As evangelism increases and Christianity spreads, Afghan Christians will almost certainly experience an increase in persecution. Please pray for the continued spread of the gospel in Afghanistan, and pray that believers will continue to influence society and remain strong when faced with opposition.

Statement about My Blog

Just wanted to state the obvious and apologize that I've been behind on blogging for a while due to the extreme busy-ness of my life currently, and it might be the same in the coming months. However, I will probably continue to post from time to time as I am able to find the free time to come across some interesting and informative videos, articles and music. I hope that anyone who subscribes to my blog or happens to stumble upon it from the Internet will find something of interest or inspiration on my blog. Thank you and God bless.

As this e-mail is being written, VOM-sponsored workers are on a boat off the coast of North Korea launching helium-filled scripture balloons over one of the darkest nations on earth. As workers packed the vessel and prepared to leave, they learned that North Korea's iron-fisted dictator, Kim Jong Il, had suddenly died of a heart attack.

While the world speculates about the future of North Korea, VOM's field director says, “It's business as usual. We're in ministry, not politics.”

Christians in North Korea continue to face brutal persecution. Many are imprisoned in labor “death” camps, where they are subjected to starvation and torture.

Sister Yang was tortured for a month after being suspected of being a Christian. A woman sitting near Sister Yang had overheard her praying quietly and reported her to authorities.

“They beat me with a shovel,” Sister Yang told VOM. “Eventually my whole body had turned blue.”

Click here to learn more and watch a short video clip of Sister Yang's powerful testimony of faith and perseverance.

VOM also invites you to make a contribution before year-end to help us continue and expand our work in North Korea and other restricted nations worldwide. All contributions received on or before Dec. 31 will be receipted for 2011.

A Love Language Minute: Personality Differences

by Dr. Gary Chapman via A Love Language Minute e-Letter
www.5lovelanguages.com

Have you ever gone on date with a person and all they wanted to do was talk about themselves? Their life, their problems, their emotional baggage strewn out for you to look at and analyze. It's probably because they're a babbling brook. Many of you may be asking what in the world that means.

When it comes to communication there are two extreme personality profiles. First is the babbling brook. This person is constantly picking up the phone to talk to others, in fact, if they get someone's voicemail they call someone else. If they can't get someone on the phone they'll talk to themselves. Whatever they see, whatever they hear, they tell. Some of you are probably turning red saying, "That's me," but don't get too embarrassed because there are likely others out there saying, "I wish I could find someone like that, then I wouldn't have to worry about conversation starters."

This personality type is called, the "Dead Sea" personality. These people are perfectly content not to talk. In fact, if you say to a Dead Sea personality, "What's wrong, why aren't you talking tonight?" He/she is likely to respond, "Nothing. What makes you think something's wrong?" These are the kind of people who don't find long silent car rides awkward, rather they find these car rides enjoyable.

Babbling brooks have a great time with Dead Seas because they are such great listeners, and Dead Seas love not having to carry the weight of the conversation so they enjoy time with babbling brooks. The good news for two babbling brooks is that you can both learn to become better listeners. Likewise two Dead Seas can learn to be more open and to find things to talk about.

Which are you, a babbling brook or a Dead Sea? What ways have you tried or learned to become more balanced?

An American journalist, recently given the opportunity to talk to Asia Bibi about her arrest and current living conditions, reported that Bibi has forgiven those who put her and her family in their current situation. In prison, Bibi frequently prays and fasts for her family and other persecuted Christians. Although she misses her daughters, she sees her family one hour each week. She lives in a confined cell, permitted to go outside for 30 minutes each day. Bibi told the reporter she completely trusts God and accepts His will. She requested Christians around the world to continue fighting for persecuted Christians and acting as the voice for the voiceless.

Iran—Christians Request Prayers

Ecclesiastes 3:1
To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven
:

Iranian Christians asked for prayer after an officially recognized church was raided during a service on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011. All those present were detained, including children. Mobile phones, the church’s audio-visual equipment and Christian literature were confiscated. Although most of those detained were released after a few hours, the church’s pastor, his wife and two other church members are still being held. Their whereabouts are unknown; please pray they will remain strong in the Lord. Iranian Christians feared that pressure and Christian persecution would increase during the Christmas season, specifically against Christians from a Muslim background. Pray for the officials involved, that they will love mercy, act justly and recognize their need for Christ.

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Boko Haram, an extremist Muslim sect, bombed St. Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla, Nigeria during a Christmas service, killing 35 people and wounding 52. Many Christians were left in pools of blood and dust while local authorities struggled to get emergency medical personnel to the scene. The coordinator of Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency could only send a text asking for more ambulances. Because of limited resources, the wounded Christians were taken from the church steps and placed on the cement floor of a nearby government hospital. Boko Haram often targets Christians in their attacks.

A Love Language Minute: The Stand-Off

by Dr. Gary Chapman via A Love Language Minute e-Letter
www.5lovelanguages.com

It only takes one person to break the silence. Have you been standing off, refusing to give in and call, waiting for your spouse to make the first move? Why wait? An effort to communicate that you care, that you are open to working on the relationship may be all that it takes to get the process going.

"He failed me. Why should I try to reconcile with him?" That line of reasoning is perfectly normal, but not biblical. In Matthew 18, Jesus instructs us to reach out to those who have sinned against us and seek reconcile. If they won't turn from their sin, then we take someone with us and lovingly confront them again. If they still refuse to talk with us, then we turn them over to God. We pray for them. We seek to win them by the love of Christ in us.

Reconciliation is hard in any relationship, and it's even harder in marriage. But God is good. He offers healing. If you and your spouse have been separated in the past but are now reconciled, share an encouraging story for others who may be in that situation right now.

Hal Lindsey Report (01-06-12): Welcome to 2012, the Power of Praise

via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'

Well, 2012 is here. I guess we'll finally see what all the hype is about.

Of course, if you're a student of Bible prophecy, you already know. It's much ado about nothing.

Breathe easy. The Bible tells us that the world will NOT end in 2012. However, that is not to say there won't be some substantial changes to the world as we currently know it.

From Iran to Iraq to Syria to Egypt to Europe to Russia to North Korea to the United States, Bob Dylan would observe, "The times they are a-changin'." But more than just the times, changes are coming fast and furiously to governments, economies, societies, religious communities, in fact, entire nations. Upheaval seems to be the order of the day. Uncertainty and fear its most common results.

For the last couple of years, Hollywood, along with radio talk show hosts, prognosticators, New Agers, even some in the scientific community have been obsessed with 2012. They've cited sources such as the Mayan calendar, Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce, and others as evidence that some cataclysmic event may occur this year. At the least, it will be the dawn of a new age of understanding and enlightenment. At the worst, complete destruction of the earth.

They've made their fortunes and had their fun, but now it's time to get serious. 2012 is here and we have to be ready for what may or may not really happen. How do we, as individuals and believers, do that?

As we enter what seems like 'the twilight zone,' I want to share with you some of my thoughts on how the believer can prepare for the unexpected events in life -- what I call the Christian's "Standard Operating Procedure." You may need it this year. Just a hint: it involves the only thing that we can give back to God as a gift that He cherishes. Understanding the power of praise in thanksgiving to God is key to a fruitful and joyful life in Christ.

Our nation faces real and present dangers -- challenges we've not faced in decades. As I report weekly on "The Hal Lindsey Report," the threats are mounting and the odds appear to be impossible. But it's precisely at those moments that the power of praise and gratitude to God can be our pathway to victory.

Hal Lindsey Report (12-30-11): A Man Called Stephen

via Hal Lindsey Media Ministries e-Letter

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'

On this week's edition of "The Hal Lindsey Report," I address a subject that has loomed in the thinking of American Christians only as a hazy shadow in the far-off future. Well, that hazy shadow is beginning to come into sharp relief. That shadow is the specter of persecution.

Of all nations on earth, the United States of America seemed to be the last place where the persecution of Christians would be a problem. But it's no longer such a far-fetched idea.

I believe we are seeing a crescendo of events and changing attitudes -- political, cultural, spiritual, and economic -- that will soon coalesce to put evangelical Christians in the cross-hairs of our society. Many of you are already facing some of these challenges at work, at school (or your child's school), or among your neighbors or family members. "Political correctness" is even now a problem, but I don't believe it will be too long before being "politically incorrect" will land you a fine or a jail term. When that happens, we will be faced with a choice: be "politically correct" or stand boldly and speak out for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In many parts of the world, our brothers and sisters are already facing that dilemma. Some are even paying for their boldness with their lives!

This week, I want to share with you the story of a man who faced that moment and stood tall. In fact, two of the 28 chapters in the Book of Acts are dedicated to "A Man Called Stephen." His defense of the Gospel before the Sanhedrin was so brilliant, powerful, and Spirit-directed that he drove the council of learned scholars into a frenzy. They mobbed him. Then they took him out and stoned him to death.

Now, you're probably thinking that it doesn't sound like Stephen offered a very effective defense if it resulted in his death. Consider this, though. He was an ordinary Israelite who allowed himself to be so completely used by the Holy Spirit that he literally confounded the most educated religious leaders of his day. When they finally realized they were guilty of the grievous charges with which Stephen accused them, they gnashed their teeth and killed him. Yet during the inquisition, the power of the Holy Spirit was so strong upon Stephen that "his face was like the face of an angel." And when he fell asleep, the Bible implies that Jesus Christ Himself stood in honor of Stephen's obedience!

Not only did this ordinary believer, who allowed himself to be used by the Spirit, so please Jesus that He stood to welcome him home, but his example no doubt inspired one of the young rabbis who witnessed the entire ordeal. Saul of Tarsus would later become history's greatest evangelist: Paul the Apostle.

So, don't despair that days of persecution may lie ahead. Jesus Himself promised that He would give us the words to say when that moment comes. And rather than our darkest hours, those moments may be our brightest.

Don't miss this week's Report on TBN, Daystar, Inspiration, CPM Network, various local stations, www.hallindsey.com or www.hischannel.com. Please check your local listings.

And thank you once again for your faithful prayer and financial support of "The Hal Lindsey Report" in 2011. I believe 2012, with all the Hollywood hype and the uncertainty fostered by numerous secular prophecies, bears the potential to be our greatest year of ministry yet. I need you to continue to stand strong with me as a watchman on the wall. The world still needs to hear the message that time is short and Jesus is coming soon. Let's not falter now. Too much is at stake.

I pray God's richest blessings upon you in 2012. Have a blessed new year!

God Bless,

Hal Lindsey

through the snow and the rain
on New Year's Day
all I want is you

there's a driving rain
pouring down on me
through a broken life
you have carried me

you are all I see
all I want is you

all the promises made

you are all I see
all I want is you

we came in there, through Chicago
beneath a blinding light
you came all the way from heaven
through the sorrow and the night
(I was waiting for your gift there, in the palaces of song
I knelt down to forgiveness for all I had done wrong)

and the radio plays
on New Year's Day
but all I want is you

there's a driving rain
