Matthew 5:44
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
A car bomb exploded outside a church in Kirkuk, Iraq, on Aug. 2, 2011, injuring more than 30 people in the latest of a series of attacks on Assyrian churches. Local authorities disarmed explosive devices near two other churches the same day. The blast, which covered the church building with glass, rubble and dust, caused serious damage to nearby houses and cars. “This has become ordinary for us, and we expect that any minute something will happen here,” a local pastor said. “Sometimes we feel there is some pressure over the Christians all over Iraq to make them leave their cities and go to the northern part of Iraq, to Kurdistan.” About half of Iraq’s Christian population has left the country since the beginning of the war.

“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
Sixteen-year-old Hiba Abdelfadil Anglo recently escaped from a gang of Muslims who kidnapped her more than a year ago. The kidnappers locked Hiba in a room, beat her, raped her and tried to force her to convert to Islam. “[On several occasions], the man who put me in his house tortured me and threatened to kill me,” she said. “Several times I was warned that if I did not convert to Islam, then I risked losing my life.” After a year in captivity, Hiba was left unguarded. She then escaped from her captors and begged a motorist to take her home. Hiba’s mother said Hiba was targeted because she is Christian. Hiba is recovering from a recent blow to her face, and it will be a long time before she recovers emotionally. “I cannot forget this bad incident,” she said. “And whenever I try to pray, I find it difficult to forget. I ask believers to pray for me for inner healing.”

Isaiah 4:6
And there will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge, and for a shelter from storm and rain.
Rev. Carlos Lamelas, once jailed in Cuba for his faith, recently arrived in the United States as a political refugee along with his wife and daughters. During his imprisonment, hundreds of Christians wrote him letters of encouragement, many through www.prisoneralert.com. Carlos was released from jail four months after his arrest on June 26, 2006. Unable to find employment and fearing another arrest, Carlos applied unsuccessfully for political asylum in 2010. In 2011, however, his case was reviewed and he and his family were granted status as political refugees. “For our part, we have been open to the will of God, and we know he will take us where we can best serve him,” he wrote. “Our moral commitment with the Lord’s work is permanent and without borders. We know that many brothers and sisters have collaborated for our benefit; we’re sorry not to know specifically who they are. Nevertheless, we want them to know that our love and gratitude is sealed in our hearts for the rest of our lives.”

How can married Christians avoid emotional affairs?
Question: "How can married Christians avoid emotional affairs?"
Answer: An emotional affair occurs when a married person shares emotional intimacy and support with an individual other than his/her spouse. Marital partners should share problems, feelings, and needs with one another and determine the boundaries of what can be shared and to whom. Depending on others to meet our emotional needs can become a temptation, especially when spouses spend much time apart while spending large blocks of time with others. Co-workers and those in close proximity on a daily basis can become a substitute for emotional support. Work relations and friendships need to have proper boundaries to ensure they do not become inappropriate.
There are warning signs that a platonic friendship could be leading to an emotional affair. When we start to feel a need to hide aspects of a relationship, we are crossing a line into inappropriate territory. Emotional distance between spouses or an increase in arguments may indicate one spouse is turning to another person for closeness. Intimacy requires closeness, and that cannot happen if a spouse gives his/her closeness to someone outside the marriage. Thus, emotional affairs often lead to sexual affairs as the intimate emotional closeness shifts to physical closeness. Many people deny the seriousness of an emotional affair, but such affairs are not harmless and can destroy marriages and families.
Christians should make choices that guard against the temptation to lean on someone other than the spouse God has given to them. Some are:
1. Do not spend time alone with anyone of the opposite gender, especially one you are attracted to.
2. Do not spend more time with another person than your spouse.
3. Do not share intimate details of life with anyone before sharing it with your spouse.
4. Live transparently. Do everything as if your spouse is present.
5. Devote personal time to prayer and Bible study. Ask God to put a hedge around your marriage.
6. Maintain a pure thought life. Do not entertain fantasies about other people.
7. Plan time with your spouse on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis and use those times to build emotional closeness between you.
All of these choices will help Christians to identify weak areas and avoid the temptation of an emotional affair.
Christian priorities must put marriage and family second only to the Lord. The Lord designed marriage to make two people into one person (Genesis 2:24). He wants them to grow together and let nothing separate them (Matthew 19:6). Married partners must value their relationship in the way the Lord values marriage and work on ways to build closeness in order to strengthen it. The Lord also forbids adultery or lusting for a person outside of marriage (Proverbs 6:25; Exodus 20:14; Matthew 5:28). People who go outside the Lord’s design to meet their needs will ultimately sin against God and potentially ruin their relationships with Him and with one another (Proverbs 6:32; 1 Corinthians 6:9-20).
The world believes that married partners need to have separate lives to be healthy. That is simply not God’s plan in creating men and women or marriage. He intended for married people to share a life together and create a family. Intimacy is formed when people are planning their lives together rather than living two separate lives in the same household. Those who do not understand God’s plan for married people can be misled into thinking it is unhealthy to share everything with one person, but that is what makes marriage different than any other relationship. It is a blessed union between two people and mirrors that of Christ and His church. Sharing intimacy with someone other than a spouse, whether physical or emotional, is sin and a violation of trust.

What does the Bible say about an unhappy marriage?
Question: "What does the Bible say about an unhappy marriage?"
Answer: One thing we know for sure: not being “happy” in marriage is not biblical grounds for divorce. In Mark 10:11-12 Jesus said, "A man who divorces his wife so he can marry someone else commits adultery against her. And a woman who divorces her husband so she can marry someone else commits adultery." Based on the Bible, we see that people don't have the right to dissolve an unhappy marriage. God intended that marriage be for a lifetime.
Ephesians 5 presents marriage as a picture of the relationship God has with us. This is one reason why God has such an interest in keeping marriages intact. He is the One that established the concept of "until death do us part." He established this for our own good. Failed marriages and broken homes are devastating to the husband and wife, not to mention the children involved. Financial ruin is only one of the unhappy results of divorce. The family unit is the basic building block of any society, and rampant divorce has a tragic impact on all of the culture.
This is not to say that God wants to force us to remain forever in an unhappy state. He doesn’t ask us to just grit our teeth and suffer through it. When God approaches marital problems, He does so from the perspective of how to fix them, not on how to dissolve the marriage. For example, He does talk about demonic impact in marriages (1 Corinthians 7:5). He states that the couple should be active in the sexual relationship so that Satan cannot tempt them. He encourages husbands to treat their wives with understanding so that their prayers will not be hindered (1 Peter 3:7). From these accounts we can see that marriage is a spiritual battlefield. This means that it will take work to fight for the relationship, not to fight in the relationship.
God encourages us toward reconciliation. Matthew 18:15-16 encourages open, honest communication that deals with hurts and frustrations caused by sin. It even encourages us to get help to resolve such things. God also encourages us to have our joy in Him (Philippians 4). Joy is a superior experience to happiness. Happiness is temporal and temporary, but joy rises above all circumstances and lasts for eternity. Joy is something you can have regardless of conditions. God gives some very good guidelines for joy, and none of them require a spouse to cooperate. A spouse does not control our capacity to have joy or peace. James 1:3-4 tells us that deep, abiding joy comes as we persevere through trials, with God’s help, and our faith matures and is strengthened. Mere happiness tends to be fleeting and depends upon temporal factors like circumstances or other people. Joy, on the other hand, is true contentment that comes from internal factors like our faith in the Lord. True joy is everlasting and not dependent upon circumstances. The book of Philippians is a great study in the difference between joy and happiness. Written by the Apostle Paul while imprisoned in Rome, this book uses the words “joy,” “rejoice,” and “joyful” 16 times and teaches us how to have true contentment in Jesus Christ, despite our circumstances. In chains and aware that his life was coming to an end, Paul talks about his faith and trust in Christ and how it had changed his whole perspective on suffering.
God has given husbands clear-cut instructions in Ephesians 5:25-28: "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.... So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself." To wives, His instruction is to respect their husbands (v. 33) and both are to submit to one another (Ephesians 5:21). If both are living up to their biblical responsibilities, there will be joy and happiness in the marriage. What woman wouldn’t respect and submit to a man who loves her the way Christ loves His church? And what man wouldn’t love a woman who respects and submits to him? The unhappiness that is present in too many marriages is a result of one or both parties refusing to submit to God and obey His revealed will for marriage.
Even if the unhappiness results from a believer being married to an unbeliever, there is always the possibility the believing wife can lead her unbelieving husband to the Lord by her chaste conduct and kind demeanor. “Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives when they see the purity and reverence of your lives” (1 Peter 3:1). The Bible specifically addresses those who are married to unbelievers in 1 Corinthians 7:12-14: “…If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband…”
In the end, we must remember that "the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil" (1 Peter 3:12). God knows the pain of an unhappy marriage, and He understands fleshly desires, but He has given His Word to us on this matter and He does ask for obedience. Obedience to God always brings joy (Romans 16:19).

A Debate: is hell Eternal?
I got into a conversation with a couple of people on YouTube concerning a video that this one guy made about hell not being eternal. I was in disagreement about this. I never saw anything in the Bible saying that hell is not eternal. This is how I remember the conversation to the best of my memory: So, I asked this person that made the video why they think hell is not eternal. They replied by giving me several verses for which they say point to the ultimate salvation of all creation (including all mankind) and that hell is not an eternal punishment. I started to investigate this further. Verses that I found say that hell is eternal and so I replied back giving him a list of these verses which seem to say that hell is eternal. Then, he replied back saying that those verses that I gave are what people who think hell is eternal would give. He started to give me verses in the original Greek and interpreting them to mean that hell is not eternal. There was a certain phrase that he was taking out of the Bible and interpreting it from the original Greek. So, I thought okay I will look into this more. So, I did. The information I found was that the original Greek basically says that hell is eternal in the same way that God is eternal. So, I replied back saying that if he is using that phrasing to justify there not being an eternal hell then it would seem that he is saying that God is not eternal either. Then someone else replied back saying that there are different versions of that phrase in the original Greek, one being singular and another plural, etc. and basically concluding that all of this means that hell is not eternal. Then he finished off by saying hell is a lie.
At the end of the day, I still believe that hell is eternal and I also believe that these guys are interpreting the text falsely in order to fit their agenda. I don't know why they are doing this as I can only guess. However, later on I noticed that the person who made the video is a unitarian. So, after that then it all made sense to me because as far as I know unitarians 1) don't believe hell 2) believe that everyone will be saved and 3) don't actually believe in the Biblical Jesus. I was already getting tired of this conversation early on, but I continued on with this debate. After having a few conversations about this I decided that it doesn't seem like either of these guys is going to budge on their views no matter what I said. So, I decided that whether we agree or disagree on hell the most important and vital thing is faith in Jesus. I wanted to know what these people believe about Jesus. So, I asked the question that I was trained to ask in Faith Team in order to get a good idea of what someone believes about salvation. The question is: "What do you think it takes for a person to get to Heaven and have eternal life." This way I can see exactly what they believe in when it comes to Jesus. But so far neither have them replied back to me. I don't know why.

More Than a Spiritual Problem
More Than a Spiritual Problem
by Russell D. Moore
May 28, 2009
According to biblical history, the world has much more than a “spiritual” problem—although the root of the problem is spiritual. The whole physical universe is messed up, too. Human beings aren’t incidental late-comers in nature. Mankind was created to be ruler over the cosmos—with “all things under his feet” in peace and harmony (Psalm 8:6). Now, though, we don’t see all things under human feet (Hebrews 2:5–8). The peace, or shalom, of the original creation’s order was disrupted by humanity’s early insurrection against our Creator. When the man and the woman exalted themselves as gods—in league with the serpent—God pronounced a curse upon everything under the rule of humans—and that curse impacted everything.

Are you sowing to the Spirit or to the flesh?
Biblical Authority Devotional: The Spirit vs. the Flesh, Part 7
by Chuck McKnight, AiG–U.S.
July 27, 2011
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. (Galatians 6:7–8). Today’s big question: are you sowing to the Spirit or the flesh? These verses most directly refer to salvation. The unbeliever, sowing to the flesh, will reap eternal punishment, whereas the believer, sowing to the Spirit, will reap eternal life. All those who do not place their faith in Christ Jesus will reap corruption. However, these verses do apply to our lives as well.

Hal Lindsey Report (08-05-2011): Ousting Attaturk, Turkey Turns, Friends or Enemies?, Russia Arising & Rome Reviving
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
When I wrote "The Late Great Planet Earth" in 1969, I was roundly criticized for my predictions about the roles of Iran and Turkey in the 'last days' scenario. Many of those critics have now fallen silent. It doesn't take a prophecy scholar to see that, indeed, Iran and Turkey are moving into the positions foretold by the ancient prophets.
This week, we're going to take a little trip through history. I want to properly set the stage so you will understand the importance of events that have taken place in the last few weeks in Turkey. After the defeat of the Ottoman Empire, Kemal Attaturk founded the modern Turkish Republic. It was built on democratic principles and pointedly constructed as a "secular" government. It intentionally and constitutionally isolated itself from Islamic influence and charged the nation's military with enforcing that separation.
Turkey's military has found it necessary to seize the government several times since its founding. Each time, Islamic forces have been curtailed and the government returned to secular civilian rule. But since the rise of the Justice Party, an Islamic-leaning political party also known as AKP, the Turkish military has seen its role as the guarantor of Turkey's constitution slowly eroded.
In fact, the ranks of Turkey's military officers' corps have been thinned considerably by hundreds of arrests in the last several months. The officers have been charged with conspiracy to stage a coup d'etat in 2003! Oddly enough, that's precisely the military's job when it sees Islam becoming too strong an influence on the state.
Last month, dozens of senior officers -- generals and admirals -- were arrested on conspiracy charges. Last week, the Turkish military Chief of Staff and the heads of all the services resigned abruptly. They were replaced by officers more sympathetic to the cause of Islam.
What makes these developments noteworthy is the fact that Turkey has been a solid Western ally for more than half a century. In fact, it became the only majority-Muslim member of NATO in 1952. The United States even has military bases in Turkey. And for many years, Turkey has been Israel's only Islamic military ally. So when Turkey begins to pull away from the West, turn on Israel (as we've seen in recent years), cozy up to Iran and other Islamic nations, and start drifting into Russia's sphere of influence, it bears prophetic significance.
Of course, I was also taken to task by other critics who belittled the importance I placed on Russia and the European Union back in 1969. I'm not sure where those detractors are now, because, true to Bible prophecy, Russia has risen from the ashes of the fallen Soviet Union. Likewise, the European Union, though currently gripped in the throes of economic upheaval, is still moving forward to solidify its role in the final days of this Age. In fact, on July 1, 2011, a major milestone was quietly passed in the evolution of that body.
Remember Daniel's interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar's dream of an image constructed of various metals? Remember his description of the final kingdom consisting of "ten kings?" Remember hearing that this could not be the EU because it has 27 members? Well, on July 1, the EU formally invested certain critical powers always reserved to the core group known as the "Western European Union," in a new 'Permanent Council.' By its own choice and in its own official documents, that group is hereinafter to be known as "The Ten."
Eerily familiar, isn't it?
In fact, there is a lot we read in today's headlines and see in each day's newscast that is eerily familiar, especially to those who seriously study the Bible's prophecies for the final days of the Age of Grace.
Each time I review those prophecies and each day when I watch the news, I'm reminded that our time on this earth is growing short. If you have not received the free gift of pardon that Jesus Christ died to purchase for you, do it now. Today is the only day we're promised. Today is the day of salvation.

Pakistan—Widow Struggles with Grief—VOM Sources
James 1:27
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
Sana had been married only a month when she became a widow. On March 21, 2011, a group of young Muslim men attacked a Salvation Army Church in Hyderabad and shot to death her husband, 25-year-old Jamil, and another man. Jamil had been supporting Sana, his parents and two siblings by working as a sweeper. When our VOM team in Pakistan visited Sana and her family recently to see how Sana was doing, they found that she was very emotionally unstable. “One minute she is laughing and the next she is crying,” the team leader reported. “Her behavior is very erratic.” Our VOM team will help arrange counseling for Sana and will continue to pray for her. Please pray for Sana and her family, as well as for Sosan, wife of the other man killed. Sosan has six children.

Ephesians 6:18–20
praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Several Christians have been assaulted and threatened in Sri Lanka in recent weeks. On July 10, a pastor was assaulted at a meeting in Ampara District, Eastern Province. During the meeting, which was held for the purpose of discussing land distribution, the pastor was assaulted by a Buddhist monk who had convened the meeting. The monk kicked the pastor, causing serious injuries to his arm and stomach. Assailants later followed the pastor to his home and continued to verbally abuse him and his family. Just over a week later, on July 19, a mob of about 50 people attacked the homes of five Christian families in Badulla District, Uva Province. The mob damaged the homes’ roofs by throwing stones, and they busted windows with stones and clubs. The attackers also destroyed a grocery shop belonging to one of the families and stole merchandise. The shop owner was seriously injured in the attack, and some families fled to the jungle until the attack had ended. The mob reportedly planned to force these families to renounce Christianity or leave the village. Pray that these Christians will trust the Lord in all things and will lovingly and boldly proclaim the gospel amid persecution.
Eritrea—Mass Arrests Continue—Release International, Release Eritrea
Psalm 102:19–20
For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary;
From heaven the LORD viewed the earth,
To hear the groaning of the prisoner,
To release those appointed to death
Eritrean officials have arrested 90 Christians since May, many of them college students. In June, 26 students from the Mai-Mefhi College of Technology were arrested and detained at an unknown location. And in May, authorities detained 64 believers in Adi Abeyto, a village near the capital, Asmara. Only six of the 90 arrested have been released, and the rest are thought to be at a police station or in the notorious Mitire military prison. It is not clear why the Christians were detained, but Release sources said college students have been arrested previously for refusing to take part in Independence Day celebrations. Independence Day was May 24. In 2002, the Eritrean government banned all Christian groups that do not belong to a state-approved church. Since then, thousands of Christians have been imprisoned, and 16 have died in custody. Pray that Christians in Eritrea will remain strong and that those in prison will hold fast to their faith. Pray for their release.

Asia Bibi Needs Your Prayers
Asia Bibi, a Christian in Pakistan, was sentenced to death for alleged blasphemy. While she waits in prison, her supporters on the outside are slowly dwindling, murdered by Muslim radicals who will stop at nothing to see her killed.
Asia needs your prayers *now*. Her faith remains strong, but she and her family need our continued prayer to remain steadfast in their faith and to continue being good testimonies for Jesus in Pakistan. Please remember her in your church gatherings and in your daily prayers. You are her brother or sister in Christ, and she needs her Christian family now more than ever.
You can do more to help--sign our petition to see Asia released! Visit http://www.callformercy.com to learn more.
Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. (Hebrews 13:3)

False Teaching
There are so many false teachings and false prophets out in the world today. The only way to truly know whether or not there is any truth to it is by comparing it to the Word, and not allowing yourself to be easily swayed by a teaching just because you heard it. Everything must be proved by the Word. Also, remember the Bible teaches that if a "prophet" prophesizes something that does not come to pass than that message did not come from God.
"...but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good." 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (NIV)
"If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him." Deuteronomy 18:22
