Better Than Money
by Dr. Gary Chapman
http://www.5lovelanguages.com/
In today's economy, it might be helpful to remember the words that are printed on our money: "In God we trust!" No matter how much money we have, it is still "in God we trust." To trust in money to give life meaning is to trust in an idol.
C.S. Lewis said, "One of the dangers of having a lot of money is that you may be quite satisfied with the kinds of happiness money can give and so fail to realize your need for God. If everything seems to come simply by signing checks, you may forget that you are at every moment totally dependent on God." Life's meaning is not found in possessions, but in relationships - first with God, then with family and friends. "In God we trust."
In the midst of hard financial times, one wife said, "What we have discovered is that we can live on a whole lot less than we thought. It has really brought our family closer together. Now that we no longer have cable TV we are pulling out the games we used to play when the children were young. We're all having great fun and we are building memories."
For the Christian, some things are more important than money. We have all learned that money can be 'here today and gone tomorrow.' But God is always 'here'. He is never 'gone' today or tomorrow. So in hard times, we put our hand in His, and use whatever money we have to feed our families and help others. Our security is not in money, but in a loving and faithful God.

Voice of the Martyrs Prayer Update for week of Sept. 30, 2011
VOM-USA Prayer Update for September 30, 2011
The Voice of the Martyrs USA: www.persecution.com
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:14–19
Iran—Pastor Youcef Confirmed to Be Apostate—Assist News
Proverbs 21:1
The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD,
Like the rivers of water;
He turns it wherever He wishes.
After being ordered by the Iranian Supreme Court to review the apostasy charge against Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, the 11th branch of the Gilan Provincial Court has confirmed his conviction and again ordered him to recant his faith in Jesus Christ. On Monday, Sept. 26, the court ruled that because Pastor Youcef has Muslim ancestors, his faith in Christ makes him an apostate from Islam. When the judges asked Pastor Youcef to “repent,” he replied, “Repent means to return. What should I return to? To the blasphemy that I had before my faith in Christ?” The judges said, “To the religion of your ancestors, Islam.” Pastor Youcef then replied, “I can not.” Pastor Youcef will be brought before the court two more times, on Sept. 27 and 28, and ordered to recant his Christian faith. Sources in Iran report that although they have been told the case will return to the Supreme Court, they fear that the lower court may act on a law that would allow them to carry out Pastor Youcef’s execution. Please pray that God might turn the hearts of the Iranian judges in Pastor Youcef’s favor, and pray for his family.
Nigeria—More than 100 Killed in Extremist Attacks—Compass Direct News
Isaiah 40:29
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
More than 100 Christians have been killed in recent attacks on villages in Nigeria’s Plateau state, according to Compass Direct News. On Sept. 10, 2011, Muslim extremists stormed Vwang Fwil village at 3 a.m., killing 13 Christians. Attackers killed 14 more Christians, including a pregnant woman, when they attacked the Christian community of Vwang Kogot on Sept. 9. And on Sept. 8, 10 Christians from one family were killed in an attack on Tsohom Foron village. Compass Direct reports that some of the attackers were wearing Nigerian Army military uniforms. Please pray for the Christians in Plateau state who have lost family members. Pray that government officials will protect Christians rather than aid their persecutors.
Myanmar—Family Refuses to Support Young Christian—VOM Contacts
Matthew 19:29
And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.
A student at an underground seminary in Myanmar has chosen to give up a comfortable life with her aunt and two stepsisters in order to follow Christ. The young girl, Ying, became a believer two years ago and began attending seminary immediately after her conversion. Recently, Ying’s relatives locked her in the house while she was preparing to leave for seminary. They threatened to disown her, beat her and withdraw all support, including food, if she continued to attend a seminary or church. In addition, her aunt and two stepsisters said they would send her to a remote village with no known Christians unless she recanted her faith. But instead of denying Christ, Ying ran away and left her family behind. Ying’s mother is deceased, and her father disappeared after leaving her with her aunt. Please pray for Ying. She has lost all support by leaving her family, and she has no one to provide for her needs as she continues in seminary.

A Love Language Minute: Revealing Yourself
by Dr. Gary Chapman
Intimacy comes from a Latin word meaning 'inner'. It is two people sharing the 'inner self'. Marriage is meant to be an intimate relationship-one in which a husband and wife reveal themselves to one another. Two of the things we share are 'thoughts' and 'emotions'. Emotions can't be seen, but they can be revealed. When I say to my wife, "I'm feeling disappointed," I have shared an emotion. If I tell her why, then I'm sharing my thoughts.
We make it easier for our spouse to share thoughts and emotions if we don't pounce on them with condemnation. If you say, "Well, that's nothing to be disappointed about. You shouldn't let that bother you," you have become a preacher not a loving spouse. When you say, "I can see how that would be disappointing, tell me more about it." You are encouraging intimacy.
Intimate Desires
We are creatures of desire. That is, we want certain things. Desires are usually expressed in terms of "I want..., I wish...I hope... or I would like... In an intimate marriage couples can share their desires without making demands. If my wife tells me that she would like a new dress for the party, then perhaps I can make it happen.
If she doesn't tell me, I have no way of knowing her desire. I don't mean that any of us can have everything we desire. But if we share, then we can discuss the possibilities - is it realistic or not? If so, then what steps need to be taken? Helping fulfill the desires of your spouse is one way of expressing your love. Love always wants what is best for the spouse.
Getting Intimate
The easiest level of self-revelation is sharing some of the experiences you have throughout the day. Every day we are constantly seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and smelling our world. We call them the five senses.
Why not begin by sharing one item from each of the categories.
One thing I saw today was...
One thing I heard ...
One thing I touched today was...
One thing I tasted ...
One pleasant smell I had today was...
This is communication 101. Try it, you'll like it. It just might lead you to greater intimacy in your marriage.

Planned Parenthood on the Hot Seat
from National Right to Life (NRLC) email:
Accusations of abuses by Planned Parenthood led some states to cut off funding to the abortion behemoth.
Now, pro-lifers are hoping a Congressional investigation of how Planned Parenthood uses taxpayer dollars might eventually lead to an end to federal funding, as well. The U.S. House voted to stop funding groups like Planned Parenthood last spring, but the pro-abortion Senate and President Obama refused to agree.
National Right to Life has long spoken truth to the power of Planned Parenthood: how they are the nation's largest performer of abortions; how they take hundreds of millions of our tax dollars every year; how they've built a business empire based on abortion; and advocated for everything from partial-birth abortion to the abortion drug RU 486.
We are pleased the U.S. House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations is going to look into Planned Parenthood’s abortion operation. Please keep the investigators in your prayers, as subcommittee chair Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) has already been the subject of a vicious verbal attack by Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards.
And please support National Right to Life as we continue to expose the truth about Planned Parenthood and how it markets its deadly "services" and kills unborn children.
Your donation today can help bring Planned Parenthood's culture of killing into the light of day, and that could help save thousands and thousands of precious unborn lives.
Sincerely,
Carol Tobias,
President

Pastor about to be executed by Iranian government
from AFA Action Alert email:
Pastor about to be executed by Iranian government
Iranian Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani faces execution anytime from Thursday onwards after refusing to renounce his faith.
September 28, 2011
Dear Friend,
Iranian Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani is currently on trial in Rasht, Iran. He has appeared in court three times this week and each time has refused to renounce his faith when asked to do so by the court. If he does not recant his Christian faith, he could be executed at any time (on or after Thursday, September 29).
The 11th branch of Iran's Gilan Provincial Court has determined that Nadarkhani has Islamic ancestry and therefore must recant his faith in Jesus Christ.
When asked to "repent" by the judges, Yousef stated, "Repent means to return. What should I return to? To the blasphemy that I had before my faith in Christ?" The judges replied, "To the religion of your ancestors, Islam." To which he replied, "I cannot."
TAKE ACTION
Send an email to the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, asking her to request the Iranian government to stop any attempt to execute Pastor Nadarkhani and to offer asylum to Pastor Nadarkhani and his family.
Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner has also released a statement calling for Pastor Yousef's release.
It is very important that you forward this alert to your friends and family members.

Defund the United Nations: for Israel and Our National Security
from ACLJ Action email:
As Palestinian Authority President Abbas spoke before the United Nations and discussed his request for being granted unilateral statehood, he called for a “Palestinian spring.” A “spring” for its partner, the terrorist group Hamas, whose stated mission is the destruction of Israel and for Muslims to “fight the Jews and kill them.”
Defend Israel, Defund the United Nations
Last Friday, the Palestinian Authority (PA) formally submitted its demand for statehood at the United Nations (U.N.) Security Council in violation of international law. Today, the Security Council is debating the request, and we must continue our vigorous defense of Israel.
The ACLJ has already deployed legal teams around the world in support of Israel to press the United Nations. Now, we are supporting legislation in Congress to defund the U.N. and any nation that votes to grant statehood to the terrorist-led government. Add your name to our petition to Congress. The message is simple and direct: If you grant Palestinian statehood, you lose U.S. funding.
Take action today; please sign the Petition to Defund the United Nations and Protect Israel.
We currently pay nearly a quarter of the U.N. general budget, and billions more on a voluntary basis. Last year alone, the U.S. contributed $7.7 billion to the U.N.
Every friend of Israel must continue to join us in this fight – it is far from over. Please share this petition on Facebook, Twitter, and via email with everyone you know who supports our critical ally in the War on Terror.
In lieu of a Security Council vote on Friday, The Quartet – the international group tasked with mediating the Middle East peace process made up of the U.S., U.N., European Union, and Russia – have called for renewed negotiations between Israel and the PA to begin within a month, with an aggressive schedule to reach an agreement by the end of 2012.
However, the U.N. Security Council is still scheduled to take up the Palestinians' demand for unilateral recognition of statehood for consideration today. We must not allow the creation of a terrorist-led state on the border of Israel – a move that not only violates international law and previous peace agreements with Israel, but violates the U.N.’s own charter which states that membership is only available to peaceful states.
The terrorist-led Palestinian Authority is neither peaceful nor a state.
Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton told our national radio broadcast last week that there is a “surefire way to stop this, and that is to say if the General Assembly or any other U.N. body votes to declare Palestine a state, we will cut off funding to the U.N.”
That is exactly what we are urging Congress to do – defund the U.N. or any nation that votes to grant statehood to this terrorist-led state. Please stand with the ACLJ in urging Members of Congress and President Obama to support legislation that has already been proposed in Congress to defund the U.N.
Sign the ACLJ’s Petition to Defund the United Nations and Protect Israel today. If the Palestinian Authority is granted statehood recognition by the United Nations, rather than through negotiated peace with Israel, the United States must take action.
Thank you for standing with the ACLJ and Israel.

Hal Lindsey Report (09-23-11): Inconvenient Truths, the Balfour 'Mandate,' a House Divided and Judenrein
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
As the 66th session of the United Nations convened this week, the number one topic of speculation has been the Palestinian bid for UN recognition. US diplomats have burned up the sidelines of the gathering in a mad scramble to convince the Palestinians to drop their request and avert an international crisis.
PA President Mahmoud Abbas wants the United Nations to formally recognize Palestine as an independent state with borders based on a UN resolution passed 64 years ago! It's a resolution the Jews accepted back in 1947, but the Arabs rejected!
Abbas has been adamant in his determination to submit a formal request to the Security Council. The PA says it will also ask the General Assembly to extend recognition. That will be a slam dunk there, since the majority of nations are Muslim or Muslim-sympathetic. Observers expect about 130 of the 191 members will vote in favor of the Palestinian state.
Of course, the GA carries no legal weight. Only Security Council votes bear the authority of international law. But recognition by the General Assembly will still complicate things immeasurably for Israel. The US has announced it will veto the request at the Security Council and President Obama essentially confirmed that in his speech to the UN on Wednesday.
But whether or not the Palestinian Authority actually carries through with its threat at this session, all of this just goes to show that the world is growing ever closer to forcing Israel to accept a failed terrorist state within its borders. The events of the last few weeks illustrate perfectly what the ancient prophets predicted: in the last days the entire world will line up against Israel.
This week, I'm going to study in depth the legal foundation on which the claims of the modern state of Israel are based. And, contrary to the conventional narrative, it's not UN Resolution 181, known as the "1947 Partition Plan." Israel's legitimacy as a modern nation is rooted in the same League of Nations actions, taken decades earlier, that provide legitimacy for Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait, and other Arab nations in the Middle East.
The bottom line is if those nations are legitimate, then so is Israel. If Israel has no legitimacy as a nation, then neither do the other nations of the Middle East. You can't have it both ways.
Beyond the historical aspects of the Palestinian statehood farce, I'll also examine the dysfunctional state of Palestinian governance that makes even the thought of autonomous statehood seem like the premise for a bizarre movie comedy. Yet world leaders and governments fall all over themselves to support, and press, this ludicrous scheme. Why? It can only be supernatural. It makes no human sense whatsoever.
Further, it's an open secret that the Palestinians want their new state to be "Judenrein." That's the sign the Nazis posted in areas that had been ethnically cleansed of all Jews. It means simply, "Jew free." And yet the 'enlightened' nations of the world apparently find this acceptable. Why? Once again, it can only be supernatural. Supernatural in the sense that it defies common sense and flies in the face of historical experience.
But, then, almost all Bible prophecy, when originally uttered or written, defied common sense. That's how we know the Bible is true and unerring. The outlandish events and conditions predicted by the prophets thousands of years ago have come to pass precisely as they prophesied.
And we are eyewitnesses as these exciting events unfold daily.
Folks, forgive me if I sound like a broken record, but time is growing short. Please make sure you and your family and friends are ready to go when Jesus Christ returns for His bride. It could be any day now.
And if you have friends or family members who are falling for the lies that are being spread by the Palestinians and echoed by the world media, please encourage them to tune in this week and hear the truth. It's simple, easy to understand, and eye-opening.

Petition To Free Asia Bibi
Dear friends,
In July, VOM launched an online petition to help free Asia Bibi, a Christian wife and mother convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to death in Pakistan. Tens of thousands of people from around the world have signed the petition for her release at www.CallForMercy.com.
If you haven't yet spoken out for Asia Bibi, please GO NOW and sign the petition.
Asia Bibi is still in prison, and we have not yet reached our goal of 1 MILLION SIGNATURES calling for justice.
To help spread the word of Asia's unjust sentence, VOM also launched a video contest. We invited readers to post a video on YouTube telling the story of Asia Bibi and asking viewers to sign the petition, which we will soon be delivering to the Pakistan Embassy in Washington, D.C. Among the excellent and creative entries, David K. earned the top prize with this 97-second video.
This video and the others in the contest are excellent tools for telling others about Asia Bibi and encouraging them to sign the Call For Mercy petition. You may want to post a video on your Facebook page or website, show it in your church or Sunday School class, or e-mail a link to your friends.
THANK YOU for helping us raise A CALL FOR MERCY on behalf of Asia Bibi. We will not be silent until she is free.

Chalk (short Christian film about standing up for believing in God and challenging atheist professor)
This is a short film about an atheistic professor that challenges his students every semester to question a belief in God, until one semester everything changes.
I believe this is a film version of the famous story that's been passed around. I think it's also sometimes called "The Professor."
I couldn't find this film on the Internet, to buy or view. Maybe it's out there somewhere, but I never managed to find it. I think it was made in the 90's, but I'm not sure. I originally recorded this onto VHS several years ago from when it aired on television on FamilyNet (http://www.familynet.com/). I dubbed it onto DVD and then uploaded it here to YouTube. Sorry about the spotty video quality at times, but hey it came from VHS. I'm so glad I was able to find this and then upload it onto here. It's a little gem. I'm hoping that I'll be able to find some other rare, hard-to-find little gems on my old VHS tapes and upload them here.
God bless. :)
Also, I think there is more than one message to the film: 1) You can claim that you know there is a God or know that there is not a God, try to prove it or disprove it in various ways. But, at the end of the day, no matter what you claim to know and no matter what proof you may try to display if a person is unwilling to believe then they will not believe. It's all about faith. Truth will still be true no matter what. 2) Moral lesson: You should never be ashamed to stand up (for God).

not boasting of things beyond measure, that is, in other men’s labors, but having hope, that as your faith is increased, we shall be greatly enlarged by you in our sphere,
Five Christians who were released from custody on bail more than a year ago have been sentenced to prison. Behrooz Sadegh Khanjani, Parviz Khalaj, Mehdi Foorootan, Mohammad Biliad and Nazli Makarian were arrested in early 2010 but had been released on bail pending sentencing. Last week, the five were ordered to report to a court in Shiraz to begin serving one-year sentences for threatening the security of the republic. One of the believers, Nazli Makarian, is pregnant; if authorities force her to serve her entire sentence, her child will be born in prison. Pray for these five believers who are facing a year in prison. Ask God to give them strength and endurance. Also pray that Christians in Iran will have a supernatural love for authorities and be faithful witnesses of God’s grace.
Bhutan—Leader Opposes Evangelism—Compass Direct News
2 Thessalonians 1:3
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other,
Bhutan’s prime minister recently told Compass Direct News that Christians should not seek to induce others to join their faith and that such actions constitute “the worst form of discrimination.” Reflecting what appears to be the prevailing view of Christians in Bhutan, Prime Minister Jigmi Yoser Thinley said Christians often try to convert Bhutanese citizens with the power of money and an attitude of spiritual superiority. A Christian leader denied these accusations, saying, “No evidence of such allegations has come to our knowledge.” He added that Christian leaders would never defend anyone who indulged in unethical conversions. Christians in this Buddhist nation have long hoped for official government recognition, but this now seems unlikely. A government minister said there was “no legal provision for that” in the constitution. Pray that Christians in Bhutan will continue to grow in faith, even though they are an extreme minority. Pray that their love for others will change the attitudes of those around them.
Uzbekistan—Believer Banned from Travel—Forum 18
Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
A Christian woman traveling to Russia was removed from a train recently after a routine passport check revealed that she had been banned from leaving Uzbekistan. Authorities removed Lidiya Guseva, of Tashkent, from the train when they learned that she had been fined seven months earlier for bringing “illegal” Christian magazines into the country, a conviction that was overturned on appeal. Cancellation of the exit ban was apparently not communicated to bailiffs after the conviction was overturned, and Lidiya’s name remained on the list of those banned from travel. Lidiya was forced to forfeit her train tickets and take a taxi home in the middle of the night. She is asking the court to reimburse her for expenses, but the court has refused her requests. The U.S. State Department recently singled out Uzbekistan as one of the worst violators of religious freedom, in part because of its legal prohibition of “proselytizing.” Pray for Christians in Uzbekistan, who face increasing pressure from authorities. Pray that they will treat their oppressors with meekness and humility.

Make halloween a Soul-Winning Event
Message from Jack Chick from Chick Publications on Vimeo.
If the Lord Jesus knew that one night each year a steady stream of unsaved children would come to His door asking for a treat, would He...A) Run off to church and ignore them so He could fellowship with other believers?
B) Stay home, but turn off the lights and hide in the back room?
C) Use this once-a-year opportunity to share His love with these precious lost souls?
This year, don't let this unique witnessing opportunity slip by. By dropping Chick tracts (and some candy) in trick-or-treat bags, you can give hundreds of kids (and their families) the Gospel, all without leaving your home. If you like doing what Jesus would do, here's your chance.
Kids need your help! Give them the Gospel this halloween.

When Jesus was crucified, all the provision for our spiritual, emotional and physical healing was made. He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes, we were healed.
The word transgression means “rebellion.” He was wounded for our rebellion, for the decisions of our hearts to turn away from Him.
The word bruised means “crushed” and “misshapen.” He was bruised for our iniquities; Isaiah says elsewhere that He wasn’t even recognizable as a man.
The word iniquity means “perversion.” There are sins and rebellion—and then there is perversion. Jesus died for the most perverse of humanity. There is healing even for those who are so lost and corrupted that their souls have deformed, and they are no longer considered normal by the rest of society. There is healing even for them.
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him. The wounding of His soul allows for the healing of our souls.
When the stripes were made, all provision for healing was made. His stripes brought us complete freedom from physical pain and brokenness.
There is now nothing else that needs to be done for us, because Jesus did everything.
And everything He did for us—the purpose of His heart, His goal—can be summed up in a single phrase: He wants our hearts.

The Greatest Commandment
Salvation took effort on God’s part, but relationship with Him takes effort on our part. He is waiting.
As we spend time in Isaiah 53, we realize that it was not a small, flimsy agreement we made with the Father the day we accepted Jesus as our Savior. We were paid for with the blood of His Son. A significant price was laid down for our hearts.
And today, that is what He wants. He wants our hearts.
One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
Jesus said to him, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
— Matthew 22:35–37
Jesus suffered the full wrath of God on the cross. Why? So He could have what He wanted: the heart of mankind.
Where is your heart today? How long has it been since you considered, really considered, what He did for you on the cross—the price that was paid for your freedom and the reason that price was paid?
If we want to see change in our circumstances, if we want to thrive while the rest of the world is spinning out of control, God cannot be a hobby in our lives, something we do during our free time—or a novelty item we decide to pick up again when we’re in trouble. He is worth more than that. One commandment is the first and the greatest: “Give Me your heart. I want your heart.”
Today, If You Hear His Voice
The Bible tells us to seek God while He may be found. It isn’t that He can’t be found all the time; it is that in His system of creation, our desires are very important. What we desire, we often obtain. If we want Him, we will find Him, but it is also true that if we want to ignore Him, we will be able to ignore Him.
Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your heart. Seek Him while He may be found. Give Him what He longs for. Remember the greatest commandment and look to see His face. He is waiting.

Hal Lindsey Report (09-16-11): Crisis in Cairo, Countdown to Chaos, Report Raises Tensions, Preparing for Conflict, the New Turkey, Grounds for War? and the Samson Option
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
Our attention is riveted on Israel this week. Seldom have we seen a nation face -- at one moment -- so many lethal threats to its very existence.
Last Friday, after being incited during a demonstration in Tahrir Square, thousands of angry Egyptians marched to the Israeli embassy in Cairo. Hundreds of them attacked the building, tore down the concrete walls, and breached the consulate. They looted files, trashed the offices, burned the Israeli flag, and came within moments of lynching the six Israeli security guards who remained behind after the entire diplomatic staff and their families were evacuated to Israel.
Only after Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu telephoned President Obama and convinced him to intervene, did Egypt's ruling military junta send security forces to rescue the Israeli guards. Later, the police had to battle the rioters to break up the demonstration. Hundreds were injured and a few died.
I shudder to think what may have resulted if President Obama had not placed that phone call and the Israeli guards had opened fire on the protesters in self-defense. Need we a clearer indication that Egypt's military leaders will not have the will or courage to defy the Muslim Brotherhood and maintain the 1979 Camp David Accords with Israel?
That means that Israel will have something it's not had in more than 30 years: a powerful and hostile enemy on its southern border.
But that may be the least of Israel's worries.
As of now, the Palestinian Authority, egged on by the OIC, the Arab League, Russia, Iran, Turkey, and some members of the European Union (among many others) plans to formally ask the United Nations at the opening of its 66th session next week to recognize the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem as the sovereign nation of Palestine -- based on the pre-1967 borders. It's a slam dunk in the General Assembly since Arab and Muslim nations and their sympathizers hold a voting majority, but a vote in the GA has no legal weight until ratified by the Security Council.
The Obama administration has indicated that it will veto the resolution -- though it uses veiled threats to withhold its veto to pressure Israel to do its bidding. But President Obama is hoping it won't reach that point. A US veto will put him in an awkward position since he has promised a state to the Palestinians and assured the Muslim world that if anyone could get it done, it would be him. They believed him and are now publicly and loudly using his own words against him.
But think for just a moment about the predicament that formal United Nations recognition of Palestine would create for Israel. For instance, those lines, which were the reality before the Six Day War of 1967, would mean that Israel would only be nine miles wide at one critical point. It would mean that from the hills of the West Bank (Palestine) the terrorists can physically see Tel Aviv. That would be child's play for the rockets and missiles of the terrorists or the national military of the new state.
Further, Israel would no longer have the recognized right to enter Judea or Samaria (the West Bank) or East Jerusalem to protect Jewish settlers, tourists, or any of the Jewish or Christian holy sites. They could no longer enter those areas or Gaza to destroy missile and rocket launch sites operated by the Palestinians. To do so would be seen as an invasion of sovereign territory and give cause to Palestine's "allies" to rush to its aid.
Revered Israeli statesman, Abba Eban, once referred to those indefensible borders as the "Auschwitz borders" because of the danger they posed to Israel.
And those are just two simple considerations. There are many more.
But that's not all.
Turkey, who was the second Muslim nation to recognize Israel in 1949 (Iran was the first) and was the only Muslim nation with a formal military alliance with Israel, has renounced that alliance, expelled Israel's ambassador, and recalled its ambassador from Tel Aviv. Further, its prime minister, Recip Tayyip Erdogan, has threatened to send Turkish warships to challenge any Israeli naval presence outside Israel's own 12-mile territorial waters.
Ostensibly, this is because Turkey is furious with Israel for interdicting the "Freedom Flotilla" that it sent to bust the Egyptian-Israeli maritime blockade of Gaza in May of 2010. After the passengers of the Mavi Marmara attempted to lynch the Israeli boarding party, a battle ensued and nine Turkish nationals died.
Because the world generally recognized the maritime blockade of Gaza as legal by international standards, Israel has refused to apologize, pay compensation to the families, and dismantle its blockade of Hamas.
Further, at Turkey's insistence, the UN established a formal commission to investigate the incident. The report of that commission, though finished last February, has finally found its way into the press. Though the "Palmer Report" chastises Israel for exerting "excessive" force during the melee, it also affirms Israel's right to pursue the maritime blockade and condemns Turkey for instigating the incident. Of course, that has infuriated Turkey's leaders and they've announced that, for them, the UN report "does not exist."
But I believe that all of the bluster and posturing is simply that: bluster and posturing. Tayyip Erdogan's ulterior motive is to restore Turkey to its pre-World War I status as leader of the Islamic world and the dominant power in the Mediterranean and Middle East. He sees himself as the emerging regional strongman. That's why he's slowly dismantling Turkey's secular government and rebuilding Turkey as an Islamic state. He's touring the Arab and Muslim nations and loudly touting his record of challenging Israel and defying the West. He's aligning Turkey with Iran and Hamas and insinuating himself into the politics of other nations. Though Turkey is prominent member of NATO, which it joined when Russian Communism was the common enemy, Turkey is increasingly withdrawing from the West now that radical Islam is the common enemy.
As I often ask, does this sound familiar? The prophets Zechariah, Ezekiel, and Isaiah all prophesy that, in the last days, a reborn nation of Israel will find itself alone and friendless with its back to the sea, surrounded by enemies with no one and nowhere to turn.
Friends, those days are here.

Courageous Movie Trailer (New Movie)
This is the fourth movie from the guys that brought you "Fireproof" and "Facing the Giants." Plot for the movie: Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. When tragedy strikes home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Protecting the streets is second nature. Raising their children in a God-honoring way? That's courageous.
The movie is coming out to U.S. theatres on September 30, 2011. Check here to see if it's coming out to a theatre near you: http://www.courageousthemovie.com/tickets
I don't know all of the release dates for other countries. Considering that it's a Christian movie brought out by a Christian ministry then there might be a limited release to theaters. According to imdb.com it will be released to theatres in the U.K. and Ireland on November 4, 2011.

Colossians 1:24
I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church,
Pastor Stephen Khoury, a VOM partner, has successfully completed a summer VBS program in the Bethlehem suburb of Shepherd’s Field, despite opposition from neighbors and local authorities. On the first day of the VBS, Stephen was accosted by a neighborhood woman and her two sons, but the Holy Spirit enabled Stephen to respond wisely and to calm the woman. Over the course of the five-day event, the leaders’ car tires were slashed and the building and landscaping of the youth center were vandalized. But Stephen and the other Christian workers were encouraged. “We had more than 78 kids come, and more than 25 kids from different religions received Christ,” Stephen said. “Lives were changed forever.” As a result of their VBS success, a new outreach meeting will be held each Friday at the center. Continue to pray for those conducting outreach through the Shepherd’s Field center. Pray that they will not falter in sharing the message of Christ.

Leviticus 25:12–13
For it is the Jubilee; it shall be holy to you; you shall eat its produce from the field.‘In this Year of Jubilee, each of you shall return to his possession.
In a surprise decision, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Aug. 28 invited Turkey’s Christian and Jewish communities to reclaim long-confiscated religious property. The decree came 75 years after the Turkish government seized land and buildings owned by the Greek, Armenian, Syriac and Jewish communities. The seized property included schools, churches, cemeteries, stores, hospitals, orphanages, houses, apartment buildings and factories, which the Turkish state had re-registered as public or foundation property. The new decree states that owners of property that was sold by the state to third parties will be reimbursed at market value. Thank the Lord for this development. Pray that the transition will go smoothly and that there will be no resistance or negative reaction to the decree.

Hebrews 11:16
But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
Christians on Tanzania’s semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar are facing increasing opposition from the Muslim majority. In June, recent convert Yusuf Abdalla, 23, fled to mainland Tanzania after he was severely beaten by family members. Earlier this year, 28-year-old Ramadhan Hunda Tuma was compelled to enter a guilty plea to charges that he burned a Quran rather than face an enraged mob calling for his death. More than 50 Muslims packed into the courtroom on Feb. 21 to hear the judge’s ruling. “Due to the conditions prevailing then, Tuma pleaded guilty because he feared for his life,” said a pastor who requested anonymity. “He chose to go to jail rather than to be released only to be killed.”

PRAISES:
• Praise God for the fabulous Sept. 8th Quarterly HPN Prayer and Praise night. We partnered with Radiance International, a new 24/7 prayer room in Hollywood and focused our prayers on industry families with professional kids. It was awesome. The prayer was powerful and we heard back that it was life-changing for so many. There is even a new group coming out of that evening, connecting the Christian families on a more regular basis. Thank you for your prayers and keep praising God for all that He’s doing here!
UPDATES:
• Oct. 6th is the first ever, collaborative friend/fund raiser for three Hollywood ministries. Would you continue to join us in praying that the Lord will use it to expand our vision, build our team of volunteers and donors, and that it will bring more strength and unity to our community.
• In our ongoing commitment to pray for Justin Bieber, this month let’s pray for him and Selena Gomez and their relationship! Justin is 17 and Selena is 19 and we want to ask the Lord to give them wisdom and discernment in all of their choices.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
• Let’s pray for Steve Jobs, who just resigned as CEO of Apple on August 24th, due to his struggle with pancreatic cancer. Steve was born to an unwed mother and adopted by Clara and Paul Jobs in 1955. He was a college dropout when he founded Apple. By the age of 25, Steve had Apple go public and he became an instant millionaire. Now, 31 years later, his successor Tim Cook, who has stepped in for Jobs during his past leave of absences, takes the helm. Let’s ask the Lord to bring both men closer to Him as Steve battles cancer and Tim steps into leadership at Apple; the company that has more available cash than our Federal Government!
• The Toronto International Film Festival, or TIFF, opened this year on Sept. 8th and runs 10 days, through 9/18. Many of our leading American stars, directors, producers and film executives are there to promote their films, try to get distribution or connect with other filmmakers with the hope of work! Would you pray that God will be present at the event venues, in conversations and that He will guide the decisions that are being made? These decisions will all impact our future movie-going experiences. The Festival’s mission statement is “To transform the way people see the world.” Shouldn’t followers of Christ have that mission statement? For more info go HERE.
• Pray for the damage that runaway production has caused on our film industry and the LA based filmmakers. Runaway production is a term for film and TV productions that have been shot overseas, instead of in America, in order to save money. America, and especially Los Angeles, have lost millions of dollars of income, location fees, production costs and jobs in the past decades, because of the need to cut production expenses by shooting overseas. Would you pray that we can begin to start re-building our American and Los Angeles productions so that more of our local community can earn a living again in their area of expertise? For more info. on Runaway Production, click HERE.
• Let’s pray for the new 2011-2012 TV season that starts this week. This year let’s look at the new line-up of shows as an opportunity to pray into the lives of all of the people involved with each series and movie, on each network, both in front of and behind the camera. These people need the power, wisdom and love of the Lord and most of them don’t know it. Our prayers can make an eternal difference in their lives, their relationships and their work. For a list of the new TV schedule, click HERE.
• HPN offers “REMOTE PRAYER STICKERS” that can be stuck on the front of your TV Remote. It’s a reminder to pray for the people on the shows that you’re watching as you channel surf or turn ON and OFF your TV. Let us send you a free sticker by emailing Caren@hpnemail.org so that you can join us in praying remotely for the TV professionals. Click HERE to learn more about our Remote Prayer Stickers.
• Please start praying for the people involved in the 2012 Academy Awards (On Feb. 26, ’12). Our industry is revving up with more screenings and publicity for the films that they hope will be nominated for an Oscar. And just recently Eddie Murphy was chosen to host this year’s televised ceremony. Would you pray for Eddie, that he can be transformed from the inside out, to reflect the love, hope, peace, purity and salvation of God as he prepares for this huge event. For more info on the event click HERE.
• Pray for two HPN members, Melissa and Jessica, who are on the writing staff of the hit TV series, "Hawaii Five-0." Pray for them to be salt and light, to be incredible writers, friends, co-workers, and ambassadors for Christ, as they use their gifts and talents as staff writers. Hawaii Five-0 returns Monday, Sept. 19 at 10/9c on CBS. Click HERE for more info on this season of Hawaii Five-O.
• Please pray for change in the way the press and the public treat celebrities. We, at HPN, want to honor the people here, regardless of their status, fame, money, beliefs or success. May we be the first ones to not exploit, gossip about or judge anyone in Hollywood, especially the celebrities who have the most difficult lives. Here is an exploitive news blurb that broke our hearts: "After J. Lo and Marc Anthony's super split (a new term we've coined for major celebrity breakups ), we've all been waiting breathlessly (breathlessly!) to see who Jenny from the Block would ensnare next." May we not join the insensitive buzz about an entertainment star, but pray for them instead, as God’s children who feel deeply. J.Lo and Marc are hurting, broken and wanting privacy like the rest of us do during painful experiences. May we pray for them, and ask the Lord to do a miraculous work in their hearts as He protects them from stabs from the press.
• Pray for the recipients of The HUMANITAS awards tomorrow, 9/16. The Humanitas Prize was created 37 years ago to honor television and film writers for telling stories which truly and deeply explore the human experience in a way that both entertains and enlightens. It is one of the secular awards ceremonies that has a heart of goodness, truth and inspiration. Let’s pray for this year’s winners, that the award encourages them to continue to seek truth and beauty in their work and lives.
• Pray for the winners, losers and all involved, behind the scenes and in front of the camera in this Sunday's Primetime 63rd annual Emmy Awards, 9/18. The Awards program will air live on FOX TV from the Nokia Theatre LA LIVE. This year's awards are hosted by Jane Lynch, from GLEE! and it involves everyone connected with Primetime Television. What a great opportunity to pray for all of the stars, directors, writers, producers, crew and staff of the world's most watched medium - Television. Would you ask the Lord to touch these people's hearts and lives in a miraculous way and they they will all experience His love, joy, peace, healing, hope and salvation. For more info on the show, click HERE.
REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:
• Three writers and friends of HPN, Marion Wells, Connie Fleishauer, and Dottie Adams have found a nitch with their new book, “The Cat Lover's Devotional,” in bringing the truth of the Gospel to people through stories of their pets. They have asked us to pray for them. Would you pray that the Lord will use them to move readers closer to Jesus who read this Devotional. God uses the arts in so many creative ways. For more info click HERE.
• HPN member Barbara asked us to pray for her as she launches the Galileo Studio at Azusa Pacific University. APU has announced the opening of the new Galileo Studio - a production facility in Azusa that is run by believers and available for production. Let’s pray that this soundstage and green screen room can bring in people from all over the industry and that they will be treated with love, respect from servant hearts. A Love Language Minute: Marshmallows and Patience
http://www.5lovelanguages.com/
Marshmallows and Patience
In Western culture, we are not trained to be patient. We get irritated just waiting for the computer to boot up. We are also impatient with people who don't operate on our time table. Or waitresses who bring us the wrong order. And yet, patience is one of the traits of love. To be loving is to be patient. In a nutshell: patience is accepting the imperfections of others.
A Better Way
When I become impatient, lose my temper, and spout condemning words to my wife, I have become an enemy, not a friend. So, she will likely fight the enemy or flee from the enemy. So, we have a royal argument that no one wins, and both of us walk away wounded, and try to avoid each other the next few days. All because I was impatient.
On the other hand, had I been patient, I would have asked questions in an effort to understand my wife's behavior. Once I understand what motivated her behavior, I'm more likely to have a reasoned response. I am now her friend and she responds positively to a friend. The whole atmosphere remains positive because I chose to be patient.
Patience begins by recognizing that people are not machines. They have thoughts, feelings, and they make decisions. Those decisions do not always please us, but we must give them the same freedom that God gives them. To condemn your son for not going to college will not have a positive effect on his life. Step back, and give him freedom to be human.
Marshmallows
More than 40 years ago, Dr. Walter Mischel conducted an extensive long-term study at Stanford University that came to be known as the Marshmallow Test. The researcher put a marshmallow in front of a 4 year old child and said: "You can have one marshmallow right now, or you can wait 15 minutes while I do something else and then you can have two marshmallows.
About one third of the children waited and received the second marshmallow. Fourteen years later the same children were interviewed about their present lives. Those who waited had better self-esteem, higher SAT scores, and were considered more socially adept and trustworthy. Patience, is indeed a virtue.

Hal Lindsey Report (09-09-11): Fortress Syria
This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report'
Syria seems to be the last of the nations thrown into upheaval by the "Arab Spring" that is still "in play." The government of Bashar al-Assad, Syria's increasingly isolated strongman, has not yet fallen, but the protests still rage and most of the Western world has turned against him. As the withering attacks and reprisals by Syria's security forces against the opposition continue, the UN, NATO, and the West find it more difficult to explain why they intervened in Libya, yet are turning a blind eye to the atrocities occurring in Syria.
Iran has leapt to Syria's defense, warning the West not to involve itself in Syria's internal affairs. Russia and China have made it known that they will protect Syria against damaging resolutions proposed by the UN's Security Council. Some military and intelligence analysts are worried that Assad may intentionally launch an attack against Israel to force other Arab and Muslim nations to rally around Syria -- and make the West forget their grievances with his regime.
Of course, anyone who is familiar with Bible prophecy knows that would be a mistake of monumental proportions. Isaiah's prophecy concerning Damascus, found in chapter 17 of his book, is yet unfulfilled. So we know it's going to happen. We just don't know when. That's why, when these kinds of circumstances arise and these kinds of threats are evident, those of us who believe what the Bible says sit up and take notice.
This week I'm going to thoroughly review what the Bible predicts about Syria's future.
We know the Syrians already have long-range missiles armed with both chemical and biological warheads aimed directly at Israel. And soon, they may have nuclear warheads, as well. So, as my mother used to say, what does this information have to do with the price of tea in China? Just this: the ancient Hebrew prophet Isaiah predicted that in the last days the Syrian capital of Damascus would be utterly annihilated -- overnight. Considering the fact that Damascus is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, and has never been destroyed, that means that Isaiah's prophecy is yet to be fulfilled. And considering the fact that only now -- with the use of nuclear weapons -- is it possible to utterly eradicate such a massive city overnight, I'd think twice before buying property in Damascus. Add to that the fact that we know Syria wants to destroy Israel and is apparently taking steps to prepare for that opportunity, I would also say that Syria (with Iran's urging) will someday get cocky -- or maybe desperate -- and force Israel to retaliate. Here's how Isaiah predicted it would happen, "And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not."
Once that happens, I'd say the world is on the fast track to Armageddon. But what about all the other Arab nations and the Persian-Russian confederacy? This week, I'm also going to share my perspective on how all of that may unfold, including some thoughts on the events described in Psalm 83.
But don't worry, I'm not going to leave you hanging. I'm also going to discuss with you the believers' "unfailing hope." As I see it, there are four elements to our hope for the future, but the imminent prospect of Christ's return is a cornerstone of that hope.
If you're not prepared for the sudden return of Jesus Christ for His bride or if you know someone who isn't, please tune in this week. I'm going to share with you precisely how you can get ready.

What was the meaning and purpose of the ten plagues of Egypt?
Question: "What was the meaning and purpose of the ten plagues of Egypt?"
Answer: The Ten Plagues of Egypt—also known as the Ten Plagues, the Plagues of Egypt, or the Biblical Plagues—are described in Exodus 7–12. The plagues were ten disasters sent upon Egypt by God to convince Pharaoh to free the Israelite slaves from the bondage and oppression they had endured in Egypt for 200 years. When God sent Moses to deliver the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt, He promised to show His wonders as confirmation of Moses' authority (Exodus 3:20). This confirmation was to serve at least two purposes: to show the Israelites that the God of their fathers was alive and worthy of their worship and to show the Egyptians that their gods were nothing.
The Israelites had been enslaved in Egypt for about 200 years, and in that time, had lost faith in the God of their fathers. They believed He existed and worshiped Him, but they doubted that He could, or would, break the yoke of their bondage. The Egyptians, like many pagan cultures, worshiped a wide variety of nature-gods, and attributed to their powers the natural phenomena they saw in the world around them. There was a god of the sun, of the river, of childbirth, of crops, etc. Events like the annual flooding of the Nile, which fertilized their croplands, were evidences of their gods' powers and good will. When Moses approached Pharaoh, demanding that he let the people go, Pharaoh responded by saying, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go” (Exodus 5:2). Thus began the challenge to show whose God was more powerful.
The first plague, turning the Nile to blood, was a judgment against Apis, the god of the Nile, Isis, goddess of the Nile, and Khnum, guardian of the Nile. The Nile was also believed to be the bloodstream of Osiris, who was reborn each year when the river flooded. The river, which formed the basis of daily life and the national economy, was devastated, as millions of fish died in the river and the water was unusable. Pharaoh was told “By this you will know that I am the LORD...” (Exodus 7:17).
The second plague, bringing frogs from the Nile, was a judgment against Heqet, the frog-headed goddess of birth. Frogs were thought to be sacred and not to be killed. God had the frogs invade every part of the homes of the Egyptians, and when they died, their stinking bodies were heaped up in offensive piles all through the land (Exodus 8:13-14).
The third plague, gnats, was a judgment on Set, the god of the desert. Unlike the previous plagues, the magicians were unable to duplicate this one, and declared to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God” (Exodus 8:19).
The fourth plague, flies, was a judgment on either Re or Uatchit, who were both depicted as flies. In this plague, God clearly distinguished between the Israelites and the Egyptians, as no swarms of flies bothered the areas where the Israelites lived (Exodus 8:21-24).
The fifth plague, the death of livestock, was a judgment on the goddess Hathor and the god Apis, who were both depicted as cattle. As with the previous plague, God protected His people from the plague, while the cattle of the Egyptians all died. God was steadily destroying the economy of Egypt, while showing His ability to protect and provide for those who obeyed Him. Pharaoh even sent investigators (Exodus 9:7) to find out if the Israelites were suffering along with the Egyptians, but the result was a hardening of his heart against them.
The sixth plague, boils, was a judgment against several gods over health and disease (Sekhmet, Sunu, and Isis). This time, the Bible says that the magicians “could not stand before Moses because of the boils.” Clearly, these religious leaders were powerless against the God of Israel.
Before God sent the last three plagues, Pharaoh was given a special message from God. These plagues would be more severe than the others, and they were designed to convince Pharaoh and all the people “that there is none like me in all the earth” (Exodus 9:14). Pharaoh was even told that he was placed in his position by God, so that God could show His power and declare His name through all the earth (v. 16). As an example of His grace, God warned Pharaoh to gather whatever cattle and crops remained from the previous plagues and shelter them from the coming storm. Some of Pharaoh's servants heeded the warning (v. 20), while others did not. The seventh plague, hail, attacked Nut, the sky goddess, Osiris, the crop fertility god, and Set, the storm god. This hail was unlike any that had been seen before. It was accompanied by a fire which ran along the ground, and everything left out in the open was devastated by the hail and fire. Again, the children of Israel were miraculously protected, and no hail damaged anything in their lands.
Before God brought the next plague, He told Moses that the Israelites would be able to tell their children of the things they had seen God do in Egypt and how it showed them God's power. The eighth plague, locusts, again focused on Nut, Osiris, and Set. The later crops, wheat and rye, which had survived the hail, were now devoured by the swarms of locusts. There would be no harvest in Egypt that year.
The ninth plague, darkness, was aimed at the sun god, Re, who was symbolized by Pharaoh himself. For three days, the land of Egypt was smothered with an unearthly darkness, but the homes of the Israelites had light.
The tenth and last plague, the death of the firstborn males, was a judgment on Isis, the protector of children. In this plague, God was teaching the Israelites a deep spiritual lesson which pointed to Christ. Unlike the other plagues, which the Israelites survived by virtue of their identity as God's people, this plague required an act of faith by them. God commanded each family to take an unblemished male lamb and kill it. The blood of the lamb was to be smeared on the top and sides of their doorways, and the lamb was to be roasted and eaten that night. Any family that did not follow God's instructions would suffer in the last plague. God described how He would send the death angel through the land of Egypt, with orders to slay the firstborn male in every household, whether human or animal. The only protection was the blood of the lamb on the door. When the angel saw the blood, he would pass over that house and leave it untouched (Exodus 12:23). This is where the term “Passover” comes from. It is a memorial of that night in ancient Egypt when God delivered His people from bondage. First Corinthians 5:7 teaches that Jesus became our Passover when He died to deliver us from the bondage of sin. While the Israelites found God's protection in their homes, every other home in the land of Egypt experienced God's wrath as their loved ones died. This grievous event caused Pharaoh to finally release the Israelites.
By the time the Israelites left Egypt, they had a clear picture of God's power, God's protection, and God's plan for them. For those who were willing to believe, they had convincing evidence that they served the true and living God. Sadly, many still failed to believe, which led to other trials and lessons by God. The result for the Egyptians and the other ancient people of the region was a dread of the God of Israel. Pharaoh once again hardened his heart and sent his chariots after the Israelites. When God opened a way through the Red Sea for the Israelites, then drowned all of Pharaoh's armies there, the power of Egypt was crushed, and the fear of God spread through the surrounding nations (Joshua 2:9-11). This was the very purpose that God declared at the beginning. We can still look back on these events today to confirm our faith in, and our fear of, this true and living God, the judge of all the earth.

PrisonerAlert Update: Pastor Ilmurad Nurliev
Pastor Ilmurad Not Included in Amnesty
Family and friends of Pastor Ilmurad were disappointed in late August when the president did not include the pastor in what has become an annual amnesty of prisoners. His wife, Maya, had especially hoped he would be freed. She is "so disappointed," a friend told Forum 18 News. "She sits at home and cries."
Family and friends were heartened, however, to hear that the pastor had finally been treated for his diabetes -- for the first time since his arrest a year ago.
Friends also said Maya has been able to visit her husband on approved visiting days.
Pentecostal pastor Ilmurad Nurliev was arrested at his home in Mary in southeastern Turkmenistan on Aug. 27, 2010. He was charged with extracting money from three people. His wife, Maya, and his church members strongly deny the allegations. “All this is being done because of his faith,” said Maya. During his trial, several of the witnesses against the 45-year-old pastor were coerced into testifying.
Pastor Nurliev was sentenced to four years in prison, and his wife was forced to pay “compensation” immediately, or risk being kicked out of their home. Pastor Nurliev was also ordered to undergo “forcible medical treatment” to “wean him off his narcotic dependency,” another claim that his wife and church members reject.
In December 2010, Pastor Nurliev was transferred to Seyi Labor Camp, known for its use of psychotropic drugs on prisoners. A former prisoner in the camp described conditions “like something from the Middle Ages.”
The pastor is a diabetic, and his family is concerned about his health while he is in prison. He has no access to medical treatment.
Instead of working in the labor camp's brick kiln, the pastor is being permitted to work at his trade as a barber, serving both prisoners and camp staff. Prison authorities have denied Pastor Nurliev a Bible.

PrisonerAlert Update: Pastor Wang Xiaoguang
Five leaders of the Linfen house church that was brutally destroyed two years ago have been released after serving two years in a labor camp. The Linfen case was one of the largest recent cases of religious persecution. On Sept. 13, 2009, 400 local police, government officials and hired thugs descended upon the church, demolished a new building and clashed with hundreds of Linfen church members. Dozens were severely beaten, and more than 30 were hospitalized with critical injuries. The five who were released were Gao Fuqin, Zhao Guoai, Yang Caizhen, Yang Hongzhen and Li Shuangpin. Five more remain in prison, including Wang Xiaoguang.
On Nov. 25, 2009, Pastor Wang Xiaoguang and four other Linfen-Fushan church leaders from Shanxi Province were sentenced to criminal detention for two to seven years, according to China Aid Association. The five church leaders were accused of "gathering people to disturb the public order," because they organized a prayer rally on Sept. 14, the day after 400 military police raided the church's grounds. During the raid, more than 30 believers were seriously wounded and 17 buildings were destroyed.

Pakistan—Son of Blasphemy Law Opponent Kidnapped—Los Angeles Times
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
The 28-year-old son of murdered Punjab governor Salman Taseer was kidnapped Aug. 26. Authorities have no suspects, and no ransom demands had been made by Shahbaz Taseer’s kidnappers. Governor Taseer was assassinated in retaliation for his opposition to Pakistan’s blasphemy law, which was used to convict Christian Asia Bibi of blasphemy against Islam. Bibi was sentenced to death for this crime. Taseer had called for Asia’s release before his death at the hands of his personal bodyguard, who said he acted in defense of Islam. This month, The Voice of the Martyrs intends to present UN and Pakistani officials with a petition signed by thousands of VOM readers calling for Asia’s release. Pray that God will use the “Call for Mercy” petition to help release Asia from jail and amend the blasphemy laws which are so often used against Christians in Pakistan.
Iran—Pastor Freed on Bail; Others Remain in Prison—VOM Contacts
Isaiah 26:1–3
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
A pastor arrested and charged with blasphemy against Islam was released on bail on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011. Pastor Matthias Haghnejad was arrested Aug. 17 while making a pastoral visit in the city of Rasht, Iran. He was held until his family paid $30,000 in bail. Pastor Matthias is free, but he still faces a trial on the blasphemy charge. Matthias and 10 other church members were detained earlier this year and charged for activities against the Iranian order. They were later acquitted. At least eight other Iranian Christian leaders are currently in prison. Ask the Lord for Pastor Matthias to be fully acquitted of the charges. Pray also for Youcef Nardarkhani, another imprisoned pastor, and for all Iranian Christians, who have faced increased pressure from the government since December.
Kazakhstan—Christian Expelled, Another Fined for Unregistered Church—Forum 18 News
Matthew 18:20
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
A Christian man who is a Russian citizen but was a legal resident of Kazakhstan for 15 years was expelled from the country for his Christian activity, while the leader of a tiny church in western Kazakhstan was fined for unregistered religious activity. Because of his preaching at the Grace-Light of Love Church, an officially registered religious organization, Leonid Pan’s residency permit was not renewed by immigration officials in August. Pan is married to a Kazak citizen and has a two-year-old daughter from the marriage. His official notification said that Pan gave false information on his visa application regarding his church involvement. Meanwhile, a court gave a fine equivalent to $500 to Gennady Tsyba, a member of an unregistered Baptist church. The judge reportedly said he was forced to apply the law, which prescribes punishment for members of unregistered communities. Tsyba argues he can’t be considered a religious organization, since the church consists of four people.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
Pakistan—Son of Blasphemy Law Opponent Kidnapped—Los Angeles Times
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
