Take Action: Atheists demand crosses be removed from Marine Corps baseUrge Gen. Vincent Coglianese to dismiss the complaints and honor fallen Marines by allowing the crosses to remainApril 20, 2012Dear Friend,According to Fox News, the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers (MAAF) and Americans United for Separation of Church and State are threatening to sue the United States Marine Corps if it refuses to remove two memorial crosses at California's Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. Planted atop a remote hill called Mount Horno rest two 13-foot crosses. Erected in 2003 by seven Marines, the site was established for reflection by people grieving over lives lost in the war on terror. For almost 10 years, the crosses have stood on the hill without complaint, until MAAF and AU filed a complaint, arguing the site violated the Constitutional mandate of separation of church and state. They want the crosses moved to a church on private land and flags or some other symbol used instead to mark the site. The Commandant of Camp Pendleton, Brig. Gen. Vincent A. Coglianese, USMC, has authority over whether the two memorial crosses erected atop Mount Horno can remain in place. TAKE ACTION Send an email of support to Gen. Coglianese, urging him to dismiss the complaints and honor fallen Marines by allowing the crosses to remain. Ask him to remain faithful to the memory of those who gave their lives for our country, and to honor the wives and children who still visit the crosses honoring their husbands and fathers. Note: The Thomas More Law Center is prepared to defend the USMC, should the atheist groups decide to sue. Please pray Gen. Coglianese will make the right decision and keep the crosses in place.
It is very important that you forward this alert to your friends and family members.
